‘My wife hates my female best friend’ Reddit

The original Reddit post has been deleted, but copies of it are still circling the site. Its original title is “AITA for helping a friend in a bad situation on my wife’s birthday” and it sees a guy discussing issues between his best friend and wife.

“I (28m) have a friend called Sarah (28f) whom I’ve known since childhood and has been there for me my whole life,” the post begins. “I owe her my life and she’s always been my go-to when I’ve had problems. I want to make this clear romantic feelings have never been involved.”

The mystery internet user explains that they have a brother-and-sister relationship, but his wife has never liked Sarah since he had her as his best woman at their wedding. They even almost broke up when she fell pregnant with their first child but worked things out.

Sarah got married last year and her relationship with his wife finally got better, but her partner recently left her while she is pregnant and her mental health has now “spiralled,” so he has stepped up to take her to appointments and help her build the nursery.

He explains that his wife has now become very “hostile” towards Sarah which has caused fights. To make up for not being there, he planned his wife a special birthday with a fancy hotel, dinner at an expensive restaurant, a shopping trip and spa visit.

“Unfortunately, Sarah went into labour six weeks early and rang me in a bad state begging me to come to the hospital because she was scared,” the post continues. “I told my wife everything and she started to freak out saying it was her day and Sarah wasn’t going to ruin it.”

He told her to “stop being childish” and said they could celebrate another time instead, but she kicked off and told him not to come home without a paternity test, which hurt him a lot as he’d never cheat on her and things weren’t romantic with Sarah.

“I’m currently with Sarah in the delivery ward,” he explains. “I’ve been getting so many angry calls from both our families and friends unfortunately. I tried getting in touch with my wife but I’m blocked on everything.”

The guy says he feels like helping a vulnerable person in this situation “trumps” a birthday meal but still feels very guilty.

Reddit thread divides TikTok

The Reddit thread has been reposted on TikTok where some people are on the wife’s side.

One person wrote: “Man needs to get his priorities in order.”

“I hope the wife finds someone who puts her first,” said another.

A third person added: “There is absolutely no respect here.”

“Is this guy for real? I hope your wife finds a man who puts her first,” said another.

However, others are saying the wife is too “insecure” and he was only being there for his best friend.

Someone wrote: “Are ya’ll dumb he is there for his best friend and the wife is insecure.”

“I mean they are both in the wrong, she is super insecure about something that’s not a problem and he was not good for prioritising his friend,” said another.
