DC film Blue Beetle’s nod to Mexican singer Chalino Sanchez has fans throwing back to the really tense moment when the late musician received a “death note” during live performance hours before he died.
Blue Beetle hit the theatres on August 18, 2023. The film and its soundtrack gave a nod to the late Mexican singer Chalino Sanchez. The musician’s song Armando Sanchez was among the DC film’s long list of songs included within the film. The superhero movie’s nod to the great singer got many fans thinking about his life and death. Some took to Twitter to share clips of the chilling moment when Chalino received a ‘death note’ while performing a live show. Hours later the singer was dead.

Chalino passed away on May 16, 1992, at the young age of 32. However, the legend’s death is shrouded in mystery. He often sang what was known as “narcocorridos” also known in English as “drug ballads”. His lyrics centered on the true story of drug traffickers and the drug cartel in Mexico. He often sang about the underworld and criminal activities taking place in Mexico. Hence, Chalino’s music was considered controversial by many.
In his last live performance which was being recorded by the cameras, he was handed a note by a fan which is believed to be a death threat. The musician who donned his signature big white hat with a beige suit opened it up in the middle of his performance while his band was still playing. The chilling moment shows Chalino reading the note before looking up and wiping the sweat off his forehead.
He takes a moment to gather his thoughts and then nods at someone on the side of the stage before continuing to sing like nothing had happened. Many fans believe that Chalino wiped off the sweat after realizing that this could be his last performance ever. The singer’s last video still sends spine chills to its viewers who know that he died hours after receiving that note.
How did the singer die?
Chalino was shot and killed in Culiacán, Sinaloa in 1992 after his last concert where he received the “death note.” The singer was found the next morning.
He had been married to his wife Marisela Vallejos Felix for four years at that point. The couple shared two kids, son Adan Chalino Sanchez and daughter Cynthia Sanchez Vallejo. Chalino’s son Adan tragically passed away in a car accident in 2004 at age 20.
The true identity of Chalino’s killer still remains a mystery despite many theories.
No one knows for sure why Chalino Sanchez was killed
No one knows the exact reason behind Chalino’s murder. Over the years several theories have popped up claiming he was in revenge for shooting a party in Culiacán as a teen. Others claimed the drug cartels wanted him dead for his song lyrics that exposed their way of life.
Another wild theory claims he could have been involved in a love triangle with a drug lord. Some other theories claim he had links to a drug trafficker. However, no one knows for sure.
