After «Revenge of the Sith,» Jar Jar’s story gets darker. And it’s not because of the theory that Jar Jar is secretly a Sith Lord. Because Palpatine manipulates him as a tool to gain more power, many believe that the Gungan representative is partially responsible for the rise of the Empire — including members of his species.

In the canon Star Wars book «Aftermath: Empire’s End,» it’s revealed that Jar Jar was once again exiled from his Gungan home because people despised his actions. He becomes a clown in the capital city of Theed — one of the Naboo locations you can visit in real life — juggling and performing street tricks to entertain children and earn a living. He continues in this line of work for decades, as «Empire’s End» shows him years after the Battle of Yavin.

It’s unclear what happens to Jar Jar after this point in the timeline, but there’s no reason he wouldn’t be alive during the New Republic era. That leaves the door open for a potential return in the future, especially now that the overall fan sentiment toward the character seems much kinder than it once was. It’s upsetting that Jar Jar received such undue blame for Palaptine’s crimes, but it’s also an undeniably interesting arc for Star Wars to introduce. Tears of the clown, indeed.

Dustin Hoffman was still relatively early in his career when he played Benjamin Braddock in «The Graduate,» and he was the perfect choice to play the brooding, fresh-faced college grad with no real goals or aims. Benjamin is disaffected enough that Mrs. Robinson is able to completely captivate him even as he starts falling for Elaine, and when it looks like he’s going to truly lose Elaine over his relationship with her mother, he goes to great lengths to win her back. Benjamin ultimately interrupts Elaine’s wedding to a man named Carl (Brian Avery), but when the two run away together, the film draws to a close with its now-famous final shot, showing them sitting with the weight of their decisions.

Hoffman is still a major film star and a longtime Hollywood staple, and after «The Graduate,» he appeared in huge films like «Midnight Cowboy,» «Tootsie,» «All the President’s Men,» «Hook,» and many, many more. He also picked up two Academy Awards for best actor after playing Benjamin — one for his leading role in «Kramer v. Kramer» alongside Meryl Streep and another for «Rain Man,» which co-starred Tom Cruise. Most recently, Hoffman lent his voice to «Kung Fu Panda 4» and is set to appear in Francis Ford Coppola’s (potentially troubled) ensemble science fiction film «Megalopolis.»

A core component of Elwood Dalton’s character is that he was a former professional MMA fighter and went as far as to compete in the UFC, the organization that’s lauded as the pinnacle of combat sports. In the film, it’s shown that his career was tarnished after killing a competitor inside the octagon. This made the real-life organization hesitant for its brand to be included in the film.

McGregor and Gyllenhaal touched on this obstacle during an interview with Sports Illustrated shortly before the film’s release. «It was hit and miss at times, wasn’t it? It was gonna be maybe XFC or something like that. But, ‘cause obviously Dalton’s history, the story is he’s killed somebody and the UFC didn’t really want that,» the former UFC Champion explained. «Well, it was important from the very beginning that we have the UFC involved because obviously my character was written as a character who was an ex UFC fighter and it was just essential to it,» Gyllenhaal said. Luckily, the promotion allowed itself to be included in the movie, going so far as to let Gyllenhaal and the «Road House» crew to film scenes at the T-Mobile Arena during UFC 285, an experience the Oscar-nominated actor lauded.

Jake Gyllenhaal isn’t the only actor who’s let it be known they’d be honored to portray the Dark Knight – «Reacher» star Alan Ritchson has said he wants to replace Ben Affleck as the DCU’s Batman. It should be noted that Ritchson is no stranger to DC Comics adaptations, having previously played Hawk on Max’s live-action series «Titans.»

Another notable actor connected to the role is «The Boys» star Jensen Ackles, with James Gunn responding to casting rumors that he’s playing Batman in the DCU on X, formerly known as Twitter, in December 2023, stating, «There’s no script yet. Ofc it’s false.»

For his part, Ackles, who voices Batman in the Tomorrowverse, is down to take on the iconic part. «I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes,» Ackles told a crowd at the Italian fan convention Jus In Bello (via Deadline) earlier that year.

With Ritchson and Ackles throwing their names into the ring, the competition to play Batman in the DCU is considerable. Time will tell if Gunn chooses Gyllenhaal, Ritchson, or Ackles — or someone else. «The Brave and the Bold» will be released following July 2025’s «Superman» and «The Authority.»

While Mark Wahlberg isn’t the type of actor to fistfight on a movie set, he has no problem speaking his mind. During a conversation with The Telegraph, the «Four Brothers» star recalled getting into a dispute with Martin Scorsese over the veteran director’s filmmaking process. However, he believes the Oscar-winning helmsman was testing him.

«There was one scene at the end where I come back and shoot Matt Damon. I asked Marty, ‘Why can’t we do it right now because the set’s there.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m not creatively there yet.’» Wahlberg added that Scorsese had his assistant deal with his complaints about this scene, who reiterated the director’s words and praised the actor’s performance.

Wahlberg also claimed that Scorsese didn’t like him being amped up at 7 a.m., noting that the Hollywood icon needed quiet time before he was ready to start work. That being said, despite their differences on the set, there isn’t any bad blood between the pair. Wahlberg is grateful for the experience, as «The Departed» opened more opportunities for him as an actor, and he’s had quite an impressive career since then.

One of the most interesting supporting players in «Chinatown» is Diane Ladd, who plays Ida Sessions. Ladd plays a key part in Jake’s (Nicholson) investigation, with her role requiring her to effortlessly play someone cunning. Like Dunaway and Nicholson, Ladd was a constant presence in the ’70s, having started her career decades earlier on television. Following her appearance in «Chinatown,» Ladd continued to work, starring in classics like «Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore» and «National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.» Ladd made more of a splash in the world of television, receiving three Emmy nods for her various guest appearances in programs like «Touched By An Angel.» She also had a prominent role in Jennifer Lawrence’s 2015 biopic «Joy,» and even popped up in «Young Sheldon» for a brief appearance. 

What some might not know about Ladd is that she’s the mother of Laura Dern, one of the most accomplished actors working today. Dern, who has starred in films like «Little Women» and «Star Wars: The Last Jedi,» shows no signs of stopping. Ladd and Dern notably worked together in David Lynch’s 1990 film «Wild at Heart.» The director eventually reunited the mother-daughter duo again for the creepy 2005 flick «Inland Empire.» 

Stateside, «Chinatown» is streaming on Netflix and Paramount+. Once you’re done visiting the classic, dive deep into Looper’s explanation of «Chinatown’s» complicated ending. 

Nicolas Cage believes that «Leaving Las Vegas» is one of his best performances, and he still loves the movie. Responding to Reddit user u/TommyLeeBrown during an AMA, the «Face/Off» star elaborated on why he enjoys the romantic drama, noting that it continues to inform the roles he wants to do.

«I have not seen Leaving Las Vegas recently; however, that movie and Elizabeth Shue’s work in that movie are what I aspire to continue towards, and I did continue towards with ‘Pig,’ which is why I am always going to be up for small-budget, independent dramas.»

Cage’s comments about «Leaving Las Vegas» suggest he’s arguably more attracted to artistry than money. Still, he isn’t opposed to appearing in blockbusters either, as evidenced by his surprise cameo as Superman in «The Flash.» Furthermore, Marvel has also teased Cage returning to the Ghost Rider character, but it remains to be seen if his version of Johnny Blaze will ride again.

Portraying the Fremen (and Paul) jumping off a sandworm could be very cool to witness cinematically. While the act wasn’t shown in «Dune: Part Two,» director Denis Villeneuve already knows how he would want it done in a prospective sequel. Audiences shouldn’t expect «Dune 3» any time soon, but the filmmaker has expressed an interest in adapting «Dune Messiah.» And he told IndieWire that he explicitly wants to film someone getting off a worm should such a movie come to fruition. 

«I knew how,» he admitted. «I found a way. It was not dramatically necessary in ‘Part Two’ to see someone get out of the worm, but I know how to do it. And I can’t wait to put that on screen.» Jumping off a sandworm could be as fascinating as watching Paul jump on a worm in «Dune: Part Two.» Plus, an adaptation of «Dune Messiah» could likely use some visually interesting sequences, seeing as the book is generally perceived as not quite as engaging as the first. Frank Herbert’s «Dune Messiah» features much talking and politicking, which don’t necessarily lend well to a visual medium like an all-out war with the Harkonnens. 

There are many things «Dune: Part Two» gets wrong from the book, and one would assume many other changes would be required if «Dune 3» happens. One such alteration could involve the sandworm dismount method, as Villeneuve said he «found a way» to do it rather than simply talking about what’s in the books. Regardless, more sandworm action will always be a good thing.

Halle Berry initially objected to having to bare all in «Swordfish.» She felt the scene was unnecessary, but her protests fell on deaf ears, forcing her to turn a negative into a positive. Ultimately, the «Swordfish» nude scene prepared Berry for «Monster’s Ball,» a movie that features a very explicit scene between her and co-star Billy Bob Thornton. «Monster’s Ball» also saw Berry win an Academy Award for best actress, with many critics praising her performance.

Despite her initial reluctance to go topless in «Swordfish,» Berry believes the experiment paid off. «I knew it was gratuitous. I never made excuses for it. But had I not shed my inhibitions in ‘Swordfish,’ I would have been afraid to tackle a love scene like this in ‘Monster’s Ball,’» she told CNN. «That’s a tribute to listening to your gut and doing what you think is right for you and not getting caught up in what other people think about the choices you make.»

«Swordfish» certainly isn’t the most acclaimed movie in Berry’s oeuvre, but it appears to have marked a turning point in her career. Berry has since gone on to impress in other movie and TV roles, too, which is a testament to her longevity and versatility as a performer.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher became famous together on «That ’70s Show,» but they weren’t alone. Another cast member, Danny Masterson, made a name for himself on the series, but later ran afoul of the law after he was charged with three counts of rape stemming from the early 2000s. Kunis and Kutcher came out in support of their former cast member, and they issued a letter to the presiding judge, which went public.

The two actors claimed to support victims while attempting to persuade the judge to give Masterson, who was found guilty of two counts of rape, a lighter sentence. He ultimately received 30 years in prison, and when Kunis and Kutcher’s letter came to light, the blowback hit them pretty hard. They were accused of supporting a convicted rapist, which brought some unfavorable attention to the couple.

The pair posted a one-minute apology video, admitting that they caused Masterson’s victims pain by submitting their letter to the judge. They explained that they wrote the character letter after Masterson’s family asked for their support. Their video comes off as overly rehearsed, not heartfelt, and meant solely to improve their image after it was damaged by a letter that praised Masterson, a convicted rapist, for being a man of «exceptional character» (via Variety).

Even though Conor McGregor eventually found himself comfortable enough to go nude for «Road House,» it took a bit of preparation to find the courage to pull the scene off. The fighter shared one such source of inspiration with People, revealing that he looked to director James Cameron’s 1984 science fiction classic «The Terminator.» More specifically, he looked to the scene where the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) arrives in the year 1984 from 2029, emerging from a ball of lightning wearing absolutely nothing and having to walk into a crowded bar to find clothes.

«I said to myself, ‘Arnold Schwarzenegger entered the movie business in a similar manner when he was standing on the thing in ‘The Terminator,’ so that kind of gave me a bit of confidence,» McGregor said of his mindset going into the scene. Considering that Schwarzenegger went on to great success following «The Terminator,» truly solidifying his transition from professional bodybuilding into acting, perhaps the same is in store for McGregor post-«Road House.» Only time will tell what his professional future holds.

«American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders» might just establish itself as one of the best true crime shows streaming in 2024, but the floating tree conspiracy is definitely causing debate among its viewers. On X, formerly known as Twitter, user @RealNateHorsman chose a journalistic approach to the problem. «During that scene after the Zapruder film was shown I paused the doc and watched the Zapruder film again. There was only one video because of course the ‘alternate’ video was not shown in the doc,» they wrote, including a screenshot of the tree that’s very much not floating for good measure. Others, on the other hand, took the opposite approach to Seymour’s revelation, while ignoring that she herself doesn’t believe in the driver video’s authenticity. «She’s right! Several YT videos you can see the driver kill JFK.» @_PochoVilla claimed.

Others, however, had a more difficult time wrapping their head around the tree situation. «The part about the Kennedy video is really bothering me. Is the floating tree a real thing?» u/Beneficial-Lion-2045 wrote on Reddit. «She was saying he doctored it to mess with her. If she went public and said this was the real film, she’d be humiliated. It was undermining her credibility,» u/broketothebone replied. «That house was weird, he probably showed that video a lot to intimidate people,» u/chuckles25 posted, sharing their opinion about Robert Booth Nichols.

With the combination of «The Octopus Murders» catching attention and «The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping» docuseries making Netflix subscribers angrier than ever, the streamer has carved itself out a nice spot in the world of true crime documentaries. Well, at least until HBO enters the arena when «The Jinx» Season 2 reveals more details about Robert Durst later this year.

In the years following the release of «Happy Gilmore,» Adam Sandler has worked on a variety of other now-legendary comedies. While the likes of «The Wedding Singer,» «The Waterboy,» and «Little Nicky» — a project featuring rock legend Ozzy Osbourne’s best film cameo — have all withstood the test of time with Sandler fans, many have yearned for what could be. «Happy Gilmore 2» has been a highly-desired sequel among fans of the original, with those on the Internet making that fact abundantly clear. Naturally, Sandler has taken note of this push for «Happy Gilmore 2,» and he’s all for it.

During an appearance on «The Dan Patrick Show» in February 2021, Sandler was asked about the possibility of «Happy Gilmore 2,» revealing that the internet buzz around such a film hasn’t gone unnoticed. «It hasn’t been discussed, but it certainly has been discussed on the Internet. Believe me, that senior tour idea, it would be so amazing … Yes, you can greenlight this,» he said. Seeing as he has since supposedly worked on a script for the sequel, one has to wonder if the idea of Happy Gilmore and Shooter McGavin going head-to-head in a senior tournament will make it to the big screen sooner rather than later.
