From her very first entrance, it’s clear that Reneé Rapp is the star of the show. She has a feral energy that brings something different to the role. She easily lives up to Rachel McAdams’ iconic performance in the original film, bringing to this Regina a fantastic set of pipes and a sense of humor that makes her likable in spite of everything. Her songs are some of the best parts of the film and help the 2024 «Mean Girls» establish an identity as its own thing. Karen (Avantika) and Gretchen (Bebe Wood) both get their moments to shine as well, bringing effervescent energy to their roles as co-dependent sidekicks whom you can’t help but become attached to. For Aaron Samuels, the production could do much worse than Christopher Briney, the floppy-haired It Boy of the 2020s (into every generation one is born), even though it’s hard to believe that he and Angourie Rice ever made it through a chemistry read. Janis is also a lot of fun and comes across as less mean-spirited than her 2004 counterpart — she even gets one of the film’s best songs (would you expect anything less from the girl who got her big break playing Moana?)

The biggest weakness of the «Mean Girls» remake, I regret to say, is the massive gaping void at its center: Cady Heron. Whether the musical version of the character is just too thinly written or if Rice is merely overshadowed by the bigger personalities of her co-stars, it’s difficult to say. But this interpretation of Cady has absolutely zero presence. Her songs are all thin, reedy, and overly earnest, which is where «Mean Girls» has the biggest tendency to fall flat. Rice does her best, but it makes you appreciate what a unique quality Lindsay Lohan had as a teen actress.

«Anyone But You» was written on spec by Ilana Wolpert during the pandemic. Wolpert eventually crossed paths with «Euphoria» breakout star Sydney Sweeney, who hopped on board as a producer. From there, things fell into place, including Glen Powell’s casting. In the pic, Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) find themselves at a wedding in Australia. Despite despising each other, circumstances force the attractive pair to pretend to date. And from there, an instant classic rom-com was born. 

Looper’s sister site /Film was mixed on the movie, giving it a 6/10 — a sentiment that most critics agree with as signaled by its 51% Rotten Tomatoes rating. But audiences are eating this one up with glee. It has a decent B+ CinemaScore, close enough to the A- score last year’s breakout rom-com hit «Ticket to Paradise» received. While reviews are mixed, this film is a box-office hit stateside, growing with each weekend. In its third weekend, the pic had a whopping 11% uptick. 

So, what explains the success? For starters, «Anyone But You» is more than just counter-programming against safe blockbusters like «Aquaman 2» and «Wonka» — it’s a throwback to the good ‘ol days of 2000s romcoms, proving that audiences, at least domestically, want more than just the generic CGI sludge and franchise reboots we’ve been digesting over the last decade. And while we’ll dive into how «Anyone But You» is a phenomenon, receipts from pics like Jennifer Lawrence’s «No Hard Feelings» ($83 million worldwide) and «A Man Called Otto» ($108 million worldwide) prove that audiences aren’t done with the mid-budget, feel-good formula that dominated two decades ago.

One of the biggest cheerleaders for a second «Edge of Tomorrow» movie is the first film’s director, Doug Liman. In 2021, he told Collider that production hinged on Tom Cruise and his co-star Emily Blunt. «It’s one of these things where if Tom, Emily and I were to say, ‘we’re ready to pull the trigger on this script,’ it’s Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, the film gets made,» he said.

As recently as August of 2023, Blunt expressed her desire to return. During a brief discussion regarding her «Edge of Tomorrow» role with «Happy Sad Confused» host Josh Horowitz, she shared that she read a script for a sequel project and is interested in its realization. «I would love to make it a reality,» she says. «But I just don’t know when or how. And how many Mission Impossibles does he need?»

It seems, then, that the ball is in Cruise’s court. Of course, now that the actor is working with Warner Bros. on what will surely be multiple big-budget projects, the possibility that he might choose to prioritize a new «Edge of Tomorrow» movie is far more likely than ever before.

Production on «Superman: Legacy» will kick off this March in Atlanta. Filming is scheduled for four months, meaning it will likely wrap up in July. This initial schedule doesn’t account for reshoots, which are the norm for big-budget studio blockbusters. To get ahead of set photo leaks, DC and Gunn could debut official images of David Corensweet in his Superman costume around the time filming commences. The same is possible for Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. 

When can fans expect a teaser or trailer for «Superman: Legacy»? That’s best left to speculation, but it should be acknowledged that the superhero pic is over a year away. With a July 2025 release date, Gunn has plenty of time to create a daring first look that compels audiences. While Gunn has dismissed the possibility of a trailer coming this year, some footage may be released by the fall or winter.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ late 2024 theatrical slate is stacked, and the studio has plenty of opportunities to showcase its upcoming crown jewel. «Joker: Folie à Deux,» the sequel to the billion-dollar grossing Joaquin Phoenix vehicle, is set to grace cinemas in early October 2024. What better way to promote «Superman: Legacy» than to attach the trailer to another DC project? And if Warner Bros. needs more time, it can always drop a trailer alongside the release of the animated «The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,» which is currently slated for a December 2024 release. 

In response to @XMenUpdate‘s tweet about the supposedly leaked image of Hugh Jackman’s new Wolverine mask, most comments are either jokes or positive reactions. In one example of the latter, @Bart2389 excitedly praised the mask and added a GIF of «Zoolander» villain Jacobim Mugatu exclaiming, «Dear god, it’s beautiful.» Meanwhile, @SPIDEY1500 wrote, «It’s beautiful bro,» accompanied by a photo of comic book Wolverine shedding a tear.

The photo also gained some traction on Reddit — most notably on a subreddit dedicated to Marvel spoilers. In the thread’s top non-joke comment, u/TrpTrp26 pointed out how surprising it is Jackman is wearing his character’s mask for the first time 24 years after his X-Men debut and then described the design as beautiful.

Some people, like u/Heisenburgo, are particularly interested in the mask’s white eye components. «Actually, it’s so cool that they’re keeping the white eye sockets just like Deadpool’s mask. I never actually thought about it, but it makes sense that they’d include them,» they wrote.

It’s always possible that this leak is inaccurate. However, if it’s real, it seems like Jackman donning a full Wolverine costume will be a very popular creative choice.

While Tom Cruise is largely known as the posterchild for Paramount Pictures, the «Collateral» star has worked with Warner Bros. numerous times in the past. Audiences last saw him join forces with the iconic studio for the criminally underrated action pic «Edge of Tomorrow.» He’s also worked with them on films like «Magnolia,» «Eyes Wide Shut,» and the ever-iconic «Risky Business.» 

«We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry,» said Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Co-Chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca & Pam Abdy in a joint statement. «Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days, and, in fact, when we first sat down with David Zaslav to talk about joining the Warner Bros. Discovery team, he said to us, ‘We are on a mission to bring Warner Bros. back – we have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros!» 

Over the last few years, Warner Bros. has seen its fair share of financial woes and disappointments, particularly with its DCEU franchise. The studio is actively restructuring, and this Cruise deal should greatly benefit the studio.

«I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike, and the entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery and their commitment to movies, movie fans, and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great movies together!» Cruise said about the deal.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos uses the Infinity Stones to erase half of all life in the universe, believing it is a necessary sacrifice to restore cosmic balance in an overpopulated world. It’s quite a different goal than his comic book counterpart, whose intentions are much more self-serving; he destroys half of life to please the living embodiment of Death. Galactus’ existence is crucial in the continuation of the universe — with his hunger playing a pivotal role in balancing life and death. However, unlike Thanos, he destroys planets not for pleasure but to fuel his energy.

Before becoming Galactus, he was a human-like being named Galan from the planet Taa. With the destruction of the Sixth Cosmos, the Sentience of the Cosmos approached him to become reborn in the new universe. As a result, Galan became Galactus, feasting on planets in the new reality to prevent his death and potentially causing a new Big Bang and destroying the Seventh Cosmos. Additionally, it’s explained Galactus’ existence is meant to test worlds to see whether they are worthy of continuing.

Without Galactus, the universe might be thrown into peril. He takes lives to ensure the cosmic scales remain level. Thanos has a similar mindset in snapping half of all life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit his machinations are entirely self-driven by his beliefs.

Natalie Portman and Mark Hamill’s big introduction might have taken years to materialize, but «Star Wars» fans are happy that it finally happened. This is certainly the view of X user @Miss_AngelaH, who noted that she adores the photo while admitting to feeling shocked that it took so long for them to meet. Similarly, @tarastrong described it as a «Beautiful pic,» echoing the view of many other fans.

Meanwhile, @AshleyDCan responded with a joke about Luke Skywalker’s complicated relationship with his old man, Darth Vader (James Earl Jones). «[S]eems to have gone better than your meeting with your father,» the comment read. This view was shared by @CaptainMarc95, who recalled the father and son’s infamous lightsaber duel that saw Skywalker lose a limb. «Well, at least she didn’t cut your hand off like your dad did.»

That said, @DikeManDave had a bone to pick with Hamill, as the X user saw his tweet as disrespectful toward Skywalker’s surrogate mother. «Please respect canon. Until you left her for dead, your real mom was Beru,» they wrote.

Though it wasn’t always the plan, a «Mandalorian» movie makes a lot of sense for where Star Wars is right now. Since the mixed responses to «The Last Jedi,» «Solo: A Star Wars Story,» and «The Rise of Skywalker,» which were accompanied by diminishing box office takes, Lucasfilm has been timid to bet big on another Star Wars movie. «The Mandalorian» has been the most successful and widely watched Disney+ project that the franchise has put out since 2019, making it the perfect choice to bring casual fans back to the theater. As Kathleen Kennedy put it in the official announcement, «Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.»

The official statement from Lucasfilm also mentions that Filoni’s Star Wars movie is still in development — a film meant to bring together storylines from «The Mandalorian,» «The Book of Boba Fett,» «Ahsoka,» and the upcoming «Skeleton Crew» show. The popular theory is that Filoni’s movie will feature Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) as the big bad. Hopefully, keeping these two movies separate will give «The Mandalorian & Grogu» more room to breathe. Given how tumultuous Star Wars has been in recent years, it seems prudent to return to theaters with a simple space adventure movie, rather than the climax to five years of assorted streaming storylines.

While there is the occasional endorsement, many of the highest upvoted responses dissect and debunk the theory, with the most popular of all suggesting that the original story is even darker. This anonymous Redditor posited that Peter Pan regularly kills off the Lost Boys as they age, concluding, «Peter basically culls the boys … in order to keep the group composed of only kids.» Redditor u/alexxerth presented a rebuttal to this very dark take, however, saying, «I really would love to see where this so[-]called ‘original story’ came from though, because it seems you’re basing it entirely on the word ‘thin’ which doesn’t suggest he kills them, just that he got rid of them somehow, which is later expanded on to be sent back home.»

Speaking of the Lost Boys being sent back home, one of the most logical arguments against the theory comes from Redditor u/TheMightyBarbarian, who shot down the whole ordeal, saying, «This … ignores the ending of the movie. … They go back home so they didn’t die.» The counterpoint is echoed by u/3zekiel, who added, «It gets really annoying to see all these theories that blatantly ignore the important scenes that debunk this s**t.» In the movie, things do end happily ever after — with the children very much alive in the real world. As is so often the case with fan theories, this one makes a strong initial case, but when you take the whole body of evidence into consideration, it doesn’t stick the landing.

Despite not being a fan of Wonder Woman, Megan Fox wants to play a superhero someday. While speaking to InStyle, she revealed that she’s keen to portray a Marvel or DC character, and she doesn’t care that movies of this ilk aren’t viewed as prestigious cinema in some circles.

«I won’t lie, I do want to find a Marvel or a DC character that I’ve always wanted to play, and do one of those,» she said. «People hate on you as an actor for that because it doesn’t get you the big awards. I don’t give a f***. Give me an MTV award. I don’t need a f****** BAFTA.»

Fox has also expressed an interest in starring in an adaptation of «Gen 13,» which tells the story of super-powered teens. While speaking to E! Online, she said this dream adaptation would be a chance to create a successful team-up movie with strong women at the front and center. Of course, she made these comments in 2014, so her desired projects might have changed over time. That said, Fox has made it clear that she’s a fan of superhero movies and wants to add more of them to her resume — will DC or Marvel grant her wish? 

An off-hand comment rarely comes back to bite someone years after the fact, but Jenn Sherman found herself in precisely that position once Christopher Nolan’s NYFCC acceptance speech came out. It’s an amusing circumstance, and Sherman shared her thoughts on the situation in a video uploaded to her Instagram. Her feelings toward «Tenet» haven’t changed, but she’s very complimentary toward «Oppenheimer.» «I may not have understood a minute of what was going on in ‘Tenet.’ That s*** went right over my head. But I have seen ‘Oppenheimer’ twice. And that’s six hours of my life that I don’t ever want to give back.»

Ultimately, this story should be taken as an amusing anecdote. All parties involved acted with class, and it’s a good reminder of how the world is more interconnected than ever before. Sherman even extended an olive branch to make things right with Nolan: «Mr. Nolan, I’m inviting you to come for a ride with me in the Peloton studio. You can critique my class. You’ll have a great time. You’ll sit in the front row. And I promise you it’ll be insult-free.»

If this Sherman-Nolan collaboration ever occurs, perhaps she could do a class set to the soundtrack of «Oppenheimer.» There’s nothing like listening to «Trinity» to get the blood pumping. 

While Chris Evans cried on multiple occasions the first time he saw «Endgame,» his tears flow far beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, the actor regularly gets choked up by another area of the House of Mouse’s expansive catalog. «It doesn’t take much for me. Pixar does an amazing job,» the actor said in response to a question from MTV News about which Pixar films have made him cry. «All the ‘Toy Story’ movies. [‘Toy Story’] 2, 3, and 4 will rip your heart out,» he specified, adding «Inside Out», «Up,» and «Coco» to the list as well.

Evans has been known to jump-start others’ tear ducts too. In an interview with Esquire, the star revealed that when his mother saw him as an old, weatherworn Steve Rogers at the end of «Endgame,» she burst into tears due to the picture-perfect resemblance to his late grandfather. Another «Endgame» example is the emotional message Evans penned as he wrapped filming. His tweet thanking his followers and the MCU fandom in general for the honor of playing Captain America prompted some to ask what gave him the right to make them cry.

Whether his own or others’, Pixar or the MCU, Evans is a man associated with tears. But there’s only one movie, to date, that we know made him cry not once or twice but six times — and that’s «Avengers: Endgame.» We love you 3,000, Chris.

Let’s not forget one important thing: the James Bond movies are based on books by Ian Fleming, so it’s crucial to consider the source material when thinking about 007’s seemingly strange martini order. Another Redditor shared solid evidence from the novels that could give audiences another insight into why Bond prefers his martinis shaken.

As u/SavemoreTrout points out, James Bond drinks a lot in the books, and ordering his martinis shaken could have something to do with the fact that he consumes a lot of cheap, low-quality liquor. «He says he developed his drinking habits to deal with cheap, potentially unsafe vodka available in the field that he eventually learned to love,» they wrote. «The shaken vodka martini makes such vodka more palatable. He also sometimes puts pepper in vodka to — according to superstition — soak up the toxins in badly made liquor.»

Although Bond frequently orders upscale cocktails like Vespers — a take on a martini that combines gin, vodka, and a white wine cordial called Lillet blanc — he also drinks far more alcohol than is advisable for any one man, so the idea that he can only handle bad vodka by chilling it to an extreme point holds water (or vodka, as the case may be).

One joke from Jo Koy’s monologue that earned particular attention online was geared toward Taylor Swift. And if you come for Swift and her legions of fans, you best come prepared, which Koy … did not. The joke in question focused on Swift popping up at NFL games to support her beau, Travis Kelce. «As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.» Of course, the actual punchline came from Taylor Swift’s reaction to the cringey monologue; she looked like she’d rather be anywhere else in the world as she took a sip from her glass.

On «Good Morning America,» Koy explained how it was simply a clunky joke, «It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL … I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So, it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way.» Koy didn’t earn himself favors from pretty much any women in the audience, as another joke that fell flat was one geared toward «Barbie,» where he derided the movie as being based on «a plastic doll with big boobies.» Seeing how the film dealt directly with how women have to deal with sexism and comments on their bodies regularly, it came across as tone-deaf.

But Koy remains optimistic. He told PEOPLE he’d want to host the Golden Globes again. But maybe next year, the Globes should try calling Amy Poehler and Tina Fey first.

Of all the characters to bring over into a new version of the DC cinematic universe, Deathstroke may seem like an odd choice. However, Joe Manganiello has friends in high places, namely the new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn. In April 2018, Gunn posted about this friendship on Facebook, «‪My friend Joe Manganiello turned me onto D&D for the first time in many years. I’ve had a blast playing — all without ever having to look at a screen.» 

Furthermore, Gunn was asked on X in 2022 if there were any plans for Deathstroke to join the DCU, to which Gunn replied, «Could be…» That response is fairly cryptic, and even if Deathstroke does appear in some capacity, there’s no guarantee Manganiello would be the one in the mask. But Gunn is known for hiring his friends, even across franchises. After all, Nathan Fillion will play the Green Lantern Guy Gardner in Gunn’s upcoming «Superman: Legacy,» and those two have worked together on several projects in the past, including «Guardians of the Galaxy» and «The Suicide Squad.» Perhaps Gunn will throw his buddy Manganiello a bone and let him actually swing those blades.

This is all purely speculation. There’s a very good chance Manganiello shared the Lego because he thought it looked cool and nothing more. But given how good Manganiello looks in the Deathstroke outfit, we’re betting many DC fans wouldn’t mind seeing him suit up at least once more. 

Looper researched Google search trends in the last 24 hours and discovered how much of an impact Lily Gladstone had on the search engine. The phrase «What is Blackfeet language» saw a 3100% increase in search volume, while the search for «Blackfoot language» increased by 3,450%. Searches for «Lily Gladstone language» shot up 5,000%, while searches for «Black feet language,» «What is black feet language,» and «Blackfeet» went up 2,600%, 1,000%, and 1,650%, respectively. 

People also searched for «Black feet meaning,» «Black foot tribe,» and «Blackfoot Indian» (the latter uses an outdated nomenclature for Indigenous people), with the first two queries rising by 300% and the last rising 200%.

These searches may have been related to the closed captioning provided for the telecast on streaming. As Teen Vogue pointed out, the captions referred to Gladstone’s words as «a global language» — as opposed to recognizing its North American roots to the Algonquian language family.

At Harry’s Sorting Ceremony in «Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,» the Sorting Hat describes Slytherin students using the word «cunning,» crooning, «Or perhaps in Slytherin / You’ll make your real friends, / Those cunning folk use any means / To achieve their ends.» The hat returns to this theme in «Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,» and though it makes sure to highlight dangerous divisions between Houses, it still specifies that each founder preferred particular students: «For instance, Slytherin / Took only pure-blood wizards / Of great cunning, just like him.»

Being cunning might mean being dishonest from time to time, but it could also be interpreted as simply playing one’s cards close to the vest. While Draco always seems to be plotting something, that’s not what makes him a villain for most of the series; his terrible attitude and hatred of anyone he deems inferior are his real bad qualities. Plus, Hogwarts students have to be pretty cunning just to get through their classes, to say nothing of the constant dangers that lurk within the school’s halls. Hogwarts can be a tricky place to be a kid; a little cunning wouldn’t hurt anyone, whether they’re Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, or Slytherin.
