8 Passengers YouTuber and mother, Ruby Franke, has been arrested on child abuse charges and social media is anticipating her mugshot.
Ruby Franke, known for heading her family’s YouTube channel 8 Passengers, has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated child abuse.
The Utah-based content creator was taken into custody along with frequent collaborator Jodi Hildebrandt on Wednesday (August 31, 2023) at the latter’s home after Franke’s malnourished son escaped out a window and ran to a nearby house for help, authorities say.
No further updates have been provided by the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department but critics are already anticipating Franke’s booking photograph.
Twitter awaits Ruby Franke’s mugshot
Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested after authorities found the former’s 12-year-old son “emaciated and malnourished, with open wounds and duct tape around the extremities,” writes the official press release.
The juvenile was transported to the local hospital, as was Franke’s 10-year-old daughter, who was found in a similar state in the home.
Franke openly displayed her family life online through their YouTube channel, which featured reaction videos with her six kids, Christmas vlogs, and even a music video. The channel launched in 2015 and was taken down earlier this year for unclear reasons.
“Counting the days until Ruby Franke’s mugshot is released,” one person wrote online.
This person believes the case will garner more attention than one of the most high-profile celebrity lawsuits:
“This s*** with Ruby Franke from 8 Passengers boutta be bigger then the Depp vs Heard case man,” they tweeted. “Lowkey can’t wait to see Ruby’s leaked mugshot cause ik that s***s gonna come out quick.”
A third person added: “Hate to say it but I’m more excited to see Ruby Franke’s mugshot than I was to see Trump’s.”
Donald Trump‘s mugshot, the first of an American president, was released on Thursday (August 24). He surrendered at the Fulton County, Georgia jail on more than a dozen charges stemming from his alleged efforts to reverse the state’s 2020 election results.
Ruby Franke’s family speaks out amid arrest
Ruby Franke’s husband, Kevin, has not released a statement online, but his lawyer claims that he is focused on keeping “his children together under his fatherly care.”
Her sisters – Bonnie Hoellein, Ellie Mecham, and Julie Deru – have posted a lengthy message on Instagram, claiming they had done as much as they could to protect the children.
“For the last three years, we have kept quiet on the subject of our sister Ruby Franke for the sake of her children,” it reads. “Behind the public scene, we have done everything we could to try and make sure the kids were safe.”
It continued: “We wouldn’t feel right about moving forward with regular content without addressing the most recent events. Once we do, we will not be commenting on it further.”
