Vicious magpie caught on video as bird repeatedly attacks cyclist on his way home
25-year-old Alejandro Rios from Brisbane, Australia, bike rides home from his catering job and claims he is being targeted by a magpie on his route home from work.
Rios believes that the same bird has been attacking him daily since the first time he was pecked on his head on September 20, 2023, as per Fox News reports.
As evidence of the incident, Rios recorded his journey home and caught the bird trying to attack his helmet – later sharing the clip on his TikTok account named @alejor98.
The clip shows the cyclist wearing a helmet, making his way home as the bird flies behind him before attempting to swoop down and peck his bike hat.
An Australian magpie is a medium-sized bird, recognized by its black and white plumage with gold-brown eyes and blueish-white and black beaks.
Along with their accomplished song-like vocalizations, the bird is also known for its aggressive territorial habits.
Alejandro Rios, who hails from Cali, Columbia, explained that the incident takes place on the path he takes every day for home.
The first time the bird incident occurred, Rios felt something knocking his head – which he originally thought might have been fruit falling from a tree – before it soon became a routine for the territorial bird to swoop at him.

Territorial birds are known to remember faces and target specific people, according to a study undertaken by Dr. Darryl Jones with Griffith University.
Alejandro has explained that the bird does not bother other passers-by, leading him to think the bird might particularly dislike him:
“I thought it hated me because I was on a bike but then I saw it let other cyclists pass with no issue… It’s a bit of a friend and a bit of a nemesis. I love animals so I want to say it’s my friend but it really, really hates me.”
In Australia, magpies are reportedly known to swoop at people, especially during breeding season, beginning when their eggs hatch and increasing in severity till their chicks leave the nest.
In their book titled Magpie Alert: Learning to Live with a Wild Neighbour,Darryl Jones explains that the bird engages in a series of escalating behaviors to drive off intruders, which usually are younger people, lone people, and people traveling quickly – including runners and cyclists.
Alejandro Rios has now reached over 4 million TikTok views, more than 460,000 likes, and a comment section full of shock as viewers can’t believe what they have witnessed in the clip.
A user named @Pozolito jokingly suggested the magpie is an ‘Angry Bird’, referring to the casual puzzle video game which is inspired primarily by a sketch of stylized wingless birds:
“Angry birds en 4k”
@Sil F. suggested that the bird’s repeated behavior is now a personal attack:
“At this point is personal.”
A TikToker named @Excuse me wrote:
“I was going to say what’s the point of the helmet if you don’t fasten it, but now I know.”
@Adonissss7 suggested that the violent bird has become the biker’s enemy:
“Bro got a bird nemesis.”
Another comment by a user named @Nathan stated:
“I didn’t understand any words you spoke but understood exactly what you meant.”
