A man has recalled the horrific moment his ear was bitten off during an underground bare-knuckle fight ring.
Unregulated fight rings are quickly becoming a social media sensation, with views totalling over 50 million on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. With around 300 fights taking place in the last year alone, in places like rivers and ice hockey rinks, the events are as dangerous as they are lucrative.

Welder Alex, 32, appeared in Channel 4’s new documentary, UNTOLD: The Secret World of Fight Clubs. At an abandoned warehouse in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, Alex faced off against East Sussex brawler Bachir “Bash” Fakhouri in the UK’s first King Of The Streets fight. But disaster struck almost immediately.
Speaking to The Sun, Alex explained: “Ten seconds in, he bit my ear off. I didn’t know it had come off at first. Blood was trickling down my face.
“He wouldn’t let go of my hair. I ended up getting whiplash from it. He was going for my eyes.”
After attempting to gouge his opponent’s eyes, which he says is a permitted move, “the ref stopped the fight and I won.”

What happened to Alex’s ear?
Despite being rushed to hospital, doctors were unable to reattach Alex’s ear.
“It had been torn so it wasn’t a clean cut,” he explained. “There was a risk of infections too, so there was no chance. It’s quite a big chunk, about the width of your pinkie finger. It doesn’t bother me.”
Naturally, Alex brought the ear home to his partner, who insisted that he keep the body part and not put it in the bin. Alex’s ear is now stored in a jar of alcohol solution in the kitchen cupboard. But Alex insists that fighting isn’t a career for him as “you only get paid if you win.”
He continued: “It was a weird bucket list thing. I needed something else in my life, not just the monotony of clocking in and out of work. Boxing wasn’t doing it. MMA wasn’t doing it.
“This is really exciting. It’s just different and it’s great. I still haven’t felt more free than when I was fighting there, where there’s no rules and restrictions. That was a little slice of freedom, real freedom.”
But there are others that have become completely enveloped by the brutal world. Elsewhere in the landmark film, fighter Remdizz spoke about how he can now make up to £7k per video.
Working as a full-time adjudicator, the former Muay Thai boxer explained: “The fire didn’t stop. It got bigger and bigger then boom hit the million views and that now to date is on 4.9million. That gives me the fire to think yes, let’s do another big show. That’s my thing I’m always chasing.”
UNTOLD: The Secret World of Fight Clubs is now streaming on Channel 4.
