Reddit user asks ‘AITA for completely altering my daughter’s face’

The OP brought her daughter up as a single mother since the time she was born. The daughter, who hasn’t been identified, is charming with a personality that often attracts friends.

The mother and daughter were inseparable and everything seemed to be going smoothly between them until the teenager said she wanted to get her nose pierced.

The OP was at first apprehensive about letting her 14-year-old daughter get a piercing and color her hair in bright shades. But she didn’t want to stop the teenager from experimenting with her appearance and style as it’s common for kids of her age.

However, it didn’t stop with a hoop in her nose. She asked for more and more piercings and ended up having seven of them on her face. But, the OP didn’t stop her daughter because she doing well in school despite hanging out with friends who leaned toward alternate fashion. So, she let her daughter have it.

The mother misses her daughter’s bare face which is now filled with metal, but still loves the wide smile on her.

Mother punishes rebellious daughter

The OP didn’t have an issue with her daughter’s piercing or the time she spent outside of their house until the school called her about the teenager missing classes regularly.

The girl’s grades had started to drop and when her mother told her to focus on school by spending less time with her friends, she got frustrated and walked away in the middle of a long conversation.

She even ran to her room and slammed the door after raising her voice at her mother during their first-ever argument.

The daughter grew more distant from her mother after their fight and the former started to spend less time at home. Her mother seized her phone when she came home past curfew once, further increasing the tension between them.

But things took a drastic turn one night when the OP woke up in the middle of the night and decided to check on her daughter, who was missing from her room. The mother started to panic and tried to call her daughter only to realize she had confiscated her phone earlier.

The OP gave herself 30 minutes to call the cops if her daughter didn’t show up by then. But the teenager returned in 15 minutes around 3:30 a.m. and tried to enter the house through the front door slowly without realizing her mother was waiting for her.

The daughter avoided eye contact and appeared to mumble when her mother was questioning her about a night out. The OP leaned closer to look into her daughter’s eyes when she smelled alcohol in her breath.

The mother couldn’t keep her emotions bottled up anymore after seeing the teen daughter drunk. She stretches her palm before her daughter and orders her to remove all of her piercings.

The teenager under the influence of alcohol curls up in a ball crying because she doesn’t want to get rid of her piercing and also because removing them without a professional’s assistance could turn out to be unsafe.

Users think the mother isn’t in the wrong

Many of the Reddit users assumed upon seeing the title, the OP had forced her daughter to undergo the knife to alter her appearance until they saw what she actually did. The majority of them have supported the mother in trying to discipline the teen.

“She’ll never love you the same way. that’s an unrealistic expectation but it’s time to be her mom and not her friend,” said one.

Another added: “My mom did the same thing but with hair color, I hated it at the time but looking back I understand.”

A third person said: “Title threw me off I started thinking she would RIP them off her but no NTA. They were removed safely and with just cause”
