An ‘AITA for not letting my sister be at my birth’ post has divides Reddit as one pregnant woman asked if she was in the wrong for her actions.
Reddit can be a great source of relationship and family drama, and a good place for people to share their issues with the world and get genuine feedback. AITA’s (Am I The A******?) posts are particularly popular, with Redditors inviting users to weigh in on whether they’re in the wrong or not. We’ve recently seen an ‘AITA for going on a trip with my maternal family‘, and now we have an ‘AITA for not letting my sister be at my birth’.

Reddit user ‘AITA for not letting my sister be at my birth’
One popular Reddit post recently asked the question ‘Am I wrong for not letting my sister be at my birth?’
The key players in the situation are the original poster, a 27 year-old female, her husband Kerim, her 13-year-old little sister Tasha, and her mom.
The pregnant woman starts out by saying everyone was happy with the news that she was pregnant when she first told them, including her dad who is divorced from her mom. The OP’s sister Tasha was also happy, talking about how she’s going to be the youngest auntie, but then once they told everyone they were having a girl she went quiet.
When the OP hit the five month pregnancy mark, she got really ill and was admitted to hospital as there was concern for her and her unborn baby. However, Tasha refused to visit her in hospital, meaning her mom also didn’t come either. Tasha, who is described as having an attitude and being spoilt, started being rude and standoffish to the woman’s husband.
Tasha allegedly scoffed when they talked about the baby girl, joked how emotional she was, saying it was trouble than it’s worth with the woman’s heart. Tasha also said they stole her favourite name when they announced the baby’s name as Adley, despite never saying that name before. She also joked about how fat the woman had gotten. Kerim eventually had enough and told her to grow up but the mom defended Tasha saying she’s just jealous about no longer being the youngest in the family anymore.
‘I tried to talk and ask her what’s wrong but she got an attitude again and told me I made everything about my baby and myself,’ the OP wrote.
She was then discussing the birthing plan with her father, who asked if he could bring his new girlfriend into the waiting room on the day of the birth. The OP said yes as the girlfriend had been kind to them.
Her mom and Tasha were really angry saying she’s cruel for letting a random ‘friend’ of their dad’s visit but not letting her little sister be there for her niece’s birth.
The OP then provided several updates after the post went viral. She said her sister Tasha ‘made cruel comments about my weight (I used to have an ED), how I’m an attention seeker to get pregnant, she’s literally slammed a door in me causing my to hurt myself, she’s been all over my husband but ignoring me to my face.
‘She’s not angry because I’m trying to keep her away from the baby, she’s angry because I’m pregnant and she will no longer be the youngest girl.’

The post divided Reddit but most took the side of the pregnant woman
The post divided Reddit at first, with some saying the OP ‘obviously doesn’t care about or spend enough time with Tasha.’
Some people also encouraged her to sympathize with her sister more, as she may still be dealing with her parent’s divorce.
However, the majority of people were on the OP’s side and said she hadn’t done anything wrong.
‘Your sister is one phone call away from ruining your husband’s life. Make sure you have documented what she says,’ one person said.
‘I’m confused why everyone was blaming oop for Tasha’s behavior and making her responsible for her feelings/emotions,’ another said. ‘Children may not fully understand their actions, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t planning or calculating be it negative or positive. Children may not always know why they are jealous, that’s doesn’t mean they aren’t jealous.’
Another said: ‘That kid needs a therapist, stat. I dunno if there’s trauma from something awful there, or just issues that need to be worked on. But they are waaaay past the point of dealing with this on their own. There’s no way this is behavior appropriate for a child.’
