Alex Cooper admits fallout with Sofia Franklyn has lasted 3 years as Call Her Daddy drama continues

Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper recently spoke about her 2020 drama with co-host Sofia Franklyn. Their fallout caused the latter to part ways with the podcast.

Host Alexandra Cooper sat down with Barstool Radio to discuss if she’s spoken to former co-host Sofia Franklyn. “I never spoke to her again after that,” the 29-year-old podcaster said.

The interviewer then asked if Alex would ever pick up the call if Sofia reached out.

“I don’t think she would ever reach out,” Alex replied. “There’s nothing to say.”

At this stage, she has been hosting the show on her own longer than she hosted it with former bestie Sofia.

She says that all she can think about is her podcast and that she’s in a new era. “It feels like so long ago that happened that I don’t think about it.” She also said that “sh*t was so bad behind-the-scenes” when the ex-roommates were hosting the podcast together.

What happened between Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn?

Call Her Daddy podcast was created in 2018 by Alex and Sofia who were best friends and roommates at the time. The podcast quickly moved under the Barstool Sports company. However, two years later, fans began noticing something was amiss with the podcast co-hosts.

Then, in a Call Her Daddy episode in May 2020, Barstool owner Dave Portnoy said that he had offered the co-hosts a $500,000 annual salary, bonuses, and six months off of their initial three-year contract. In Dave’s version of the story, Alex was in favor of the offer but Sofia was not. Behind the scenes, the co-hosts had disagreements about what role they each played in the podcast and what vision they had for its future.

Both Alex and Dave said that Sofia was more in favor of her then-boyfriend 38-year-old HBO Sport exec Peter Nelson getting them a better deal with another media firm. Commenting on this in 2023, Sofia said, “I was just trying to figure out, how are we going to make a decision that feels right for both of us?

In one of her videos at the time, Sofia also alleged her former bestie Alex was seeking more than 50/50 control of the podcast. She said that she did not want to be Alex’s “employee.” Finally, Alex left Barstool and moved her podcast over to Spotify in a $60 million three-year deal.

Alex dished on the issue in a 2020 video

Alex says at the start of the video that she got a raise over Sofia when they were still under Barstool because she did not do all the editing and marketing for the podcast. She also said that she spent more time editing the show than she and Sofia did while recording or editing it.

The Call Her Daddy host said “It got exhausting trying to appease” Sofia during the contract negotiations. It started to get really bad because it got all about money.”

She says that she wanted Call Her Daddy to remain and the duo was fine having 50-50 ownership.

“At the end of the day, I wanted Sofia to be happy. I wanted her to take the Barstool deal, but I also didn’t want to, like, force her into something she didn’t want. But at the end of the day, I really wanted her to take it with me.”
