Okay — let’s break this down. The fan theory imagines that, years after the events of «Calvin & Hobbes» — namely, Calvin’s unfulfilling, bleak adulthood where he’s so desperate for companionship that he hallucinates a whole guy and starts a fight club under said guy’s identity. Again, it’s important to note that Calvin does have a vivid imagination, though it’s probably not totally out of the ordinary for a six-year-old to truly believe that his beloved stuffed tiger is not only really alive but also his thoughtful, loyal best friend. All of this makes both projects much, much sadder, though.

Keith Buster takes this thought to the extreme in his blog post. «This makes the reality of ‘Fight Club’ all the bleaker, because it depicts what happens when you take someone weaned on dreams and limitless possibilities and jam him into a cramped cage confined by rules and regulations,» he wrote. «It probably only took poor Calvin a few years in the adult world (or growing-up world) to fully make the sad change.»

Considering how popular both of these properties are, it stands to reason that there are people out there who are fans of both «Calvin & Hobbes» and «Fight Club.» Clearly, Buster is one of them. It feels somehow wrong, though, to look at a sweet series like «Calvin & Hobbes» and surmise that it could turn into something as depressing as «Fight Club.»

Sonic the Hedgehog has been a beloved video game icon for decades. Adapting him into a live-action movie should’ve been a slam dunk. Just take what people love about the games and transpose them into a narrative story. But when the first «Sonic the Hedgehog» trailer dropped, it was an abomination.

Let’s set aside the absurd design known as «Ugly Sonic,» which required «Sonic the Hedgehog» to be delayed so that it could be fixed. Let’s just focus on the song choice, namely «Gangsta’s Paradise» by Coolio. Why is that there? Sonic’s not a gangsta. He likes chili dogs, not walking through the valley of the shadow of death. It’s tonally inconsistent with the fun vibe the trailer clearly wants to show off, resulting in a mind-boggling aesthetic where you just have to wonder who was in charge of all this. 

The only possible explanation is that the trailer wanted a general ’90s aesthetic. The first «Sonic» game came out in 1991. Jim Carrey, who plays Dr. Robotnik, was popular in the 1990s. It’s possible they wanted a song that encapsulated the decade too, which is fine, but there are so many options other than «Gangsta’s Paradise.» This is just a pitch, but what about «The Distance» by Cake? It’s from 1996 and has lyrics like «He’s going for speed.» It’s a much better Sonic song, and that’s after putting only, like, 10 seconds of thought into it. 

Overall, the fan-made video showing the Avengers films directed by Wes Anderson is fascinating. Seeing that it was warmly received, @aimonster_official created a sequel, expanding the cast of characters.

In both videos, Anderson’s signature style prevails. The characters even get distinctive names that align with the filmmaker’s writing quirks. For example, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is reduced to «Man.» Similarly, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is referred to as «Spider.» While there are still fantastical elements at play, such as Thanos retaining his purple, hulking design, it seems that an Anderson-directed «Avengers» would be stripped back and nuanced, less interested in cosmic chaos and more invested in the relations between the heroes and villains. 

As fantastic as this concept is, it’s unlikely that Anderson will ever direct an MCU project. He has notably stayed in his own lane, pursuing standalone movies he’s interested in. Despite never making a big-budget studio tentpole, the filmmaker has worked with several actors who appear in the MCU, including Tony Revolori, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, and Tilda Swinton, among many others.

«Strange Days» is one of those movies that came and went, so if you didn’t see it in the theaters, odds are, you’ve never heard of it. The movie came out in 1995 and depicts the far-off future of 1999, on the cusp of the millennium. While this period has come and gone without seeing the same societal decline predicted in the movie, it remains a fascinating example of science fiction predicting aspects of technological development and societal decrement.

The film features an all-star cast consisting of Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, and Vincent D’Onofrio, so there’s plenty of talent involved. Add to that James Cameron’s work on the screenplay with Kathryn Bigelow’s direction, and you’ve got a recipe for a fantastic film. Unfortunately, you’ve also got a box office failure that earned under $8 million off a $42 million production budget.

The film centers around black market virtual reality experiences, specifically those involving murder. This unfolds into a case involving a serial killer with a particular preference for using VR technology while killing his victims. It’s brutal and honest in its approach to analyzing the dangers of the burgeoning technology, which, fortunately, haven’t come to fruition.

Rey’s family history is shown only in flickers of flashbacks. She is the daughter of Miramir (Jodie Comer) and an Emperor Palpatine clone named Dathan (Billy Howle). Unfortunately, the Force wasn’t strong with the latter, and Dathan eventually fled his maker’s grasp. Sometime after, he met and fell in love with Miramir, and the two married before having Rey. The young girl’s Force sensitivity puts her in danger, resulting in her parents’ decision to hide on Jakku. This plan doesn’t last long, with Miaramir and Dathan abandoning Rey for her safety, only to be kidnapped and killed by an assassin Palpatine sends to search for his gifted granddaughter.

While there are similarities between Rey and Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) pasts, the former arguably had a more challenging childhood before joining the fight against the dark side. At least young Skywalker has his Uncle Owen (Phil Brown) and Aunt Beru (Shelagh Fraser) to look after him (albeit before they are brutally killed). On the other hand, Rey is left in the giant, devious hands of junker boss Unkar Plutt (Simon Pegg) to avoid the clutches of her grand-pappy, who has plans for galactic domination again. You really can’t choose your family, and that’s especially true when clones are involved.

It’s not difficult to imagine what a Rocket f-bomb could have looked like. After all, there are a dozen instances where the character could have uttered it out of frustration. But instead, James Gunn chose not to make a big deal out of it, with Quill casually throwing it in what is already a hilarious moment. «That was not scripted,» Chris Pratt told the Toronto Sun about the f-bomb. «I think James told me to try saying that and I tried it and it made it in.»

While it shouldn’t come as a shock that Gunn and Pratt tried to sneak in the f-word, it’s surprising that Disney approved it. But the «Guardians of the Galaxy» director told Joe.ie that Kevin Feige said he was okay with it as long as Gunn was fine with it being a part of his legacy. «And I said, ‘Kevin, if you think you’re scaring me away instead of just enticing me even more to put this in the movie, you’re crazy,’» he said. «And then he laughed his ass off.»

Despite the lengthy makeup application process, Larroquette would later say he truly enjoyed his time spent decked out in Klingon ridges and full warrior’s regalia. In an interview with Starlog Magazine (via Memory Alpha), Larroquette said he would be eager to wear those ridges again if the opportunity arose, calling the role «fun, a lot of fun.» Larroquette continued, «I just kept telling […] [Kirk actor] Bill Shatner–since I was the last surviving Klingon, I smell spin-off.» Jokingly, he added, «I could take this to a series. Maltz starts off and he has a little hot dog stand on Yakka III out there in the Doofus Galaxy.» The Emmy Award-winning actor went on to claim that after the film’s ending left Maltz stuck in a Federation prison, the Klingon’s plight led to «Free Maltz» campaign led by a group of New Zealand Trekkies calling themselves the «Klingon Occupation Force.»

According to Larroquette, no one had to twist his arm to get him on the Klingon bridge crew. As the actor told Starlog, «I was just called and asked. And I ran.» The «Night Court» star added, «I guess the idea of playing a Klingon was real fascinating to me.» To help prepare for the role, he read lines with Leonard Nimoy, who Larroquette said «knows that form inside and out, obviously, and since I had never played a Klingon before, it was sort of like, ‘No, this is how Klingons talk.’» Larroquette’s latest appearance as Maltz opens up the possibility that fans will get to see a second reprisal on «Star Trek: Lower Decks» or «Strange New Worlds.» 

Who doesn’t love a massive movie monster? If there was ever a monstrous big screen creature fit to captivate audiences, it would be the sandworms of Arrakis. These beasts can extend to hundreds of meters long (many times the length of a Blue Whale, the largest known animal to have ever lived). They are fiercely protective, and come racing toward the slightest rhythmic footstep of an invader. At least, that’s the wild, threatening sandworm that we saw in «Dune: Part 1.»

However, even those who weren’t really paying that much attention knew by the end of the first movie that there was more to the sandworms than that. We even get a glimpse of a distant Fremen riding a sandworm at one point in that film, and the marketing for «Dune: Part 2» made it clear early and often that the sequel was going to take that epic ride to the next level.

In Herbert’s books, the Fremen practice the deft art of catching and riding sandworms. They use them to travel vast distances, and there’s no doubt that the beasts have a ton of potential as oversized weapons of war, too (Paul himself notes their potential as «desert power» in the first movie). The chance to see a whole lot more of these giant creatures in all of their cinematic glory was one of the flashiest selling points of the sequel, and it made a trip to the theater as early as possible a necessity for many.

Balancing her marriage, life, and children is clearly quite an undertaking for Blake Lively. It’s also clear that she and Ryan Reynolds work hard in every single aspect of their lives. Lively did admit, though, that she had to tone down her workaholic tendencies and take breaks to simply be with her children and husband sometimes, particularly because one of her first big projects was so labor-intensive.

«I’m used to working hard and going and going and going and going and not stopping,» Lively told Amber Tamblyn, referencing the television show that catapulted her to international fame and acclaim. «Especially, ‘Gossip Girl’ was six years of my life, and we were sometimes shooting three episodes at once.»

Lively famously played socialite Serena van der Woodsen in the original «Gossip Girl» and stuck with the show for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. Though she had already worked on the first «Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants» film and the Justin Long-led comedy «Accepted» by then, the CW series catapulted her to a brand new level of fame and made her a superstar, launching her career in a completely different way. Now Lively has her pick of projects — as does Reynolds.

John Cena’s «Barbie» cameo stemmed from having friends in high places and simply being in the right place at the right time. In an interview with «TODAY,» he spoke about how a chance encounter with Margot Robbie led to him being cast as the hunky merman, even though he was filming another tentpole project at the time.

«We literally randomly ran into each other as friends. ‘Fast X’ was filming across the street from ‘Barbie.’ And [she asked], ‘Why don’t you do «Barbie?»‘ I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’ And Margot makes a lot of the decisions for that, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do whatever you need.’»

Cena also noted that «Barbie» shares similarities with «Fast X,» so jumping from the action movie to the comedy wasn’t as massive a leap as it might seem. He said both flicks have excellent casts, and he was willing to join Greta Gerwig’s comedy in any capacity just so that he could be part of the ensemble. Fortunately, it all worked out in the end, and Cena can now brag about having yet another hit on his resume.

Rob Liefeld, who announced earlier this month that he was retiring from writing and drawing «Deadpool» at Marvel, once shared a superhero creation inspired by the joke that he overuses pouches. On his Instagram account, Liefeld showcased a new character made entirely of pouches called the Pouch, joking that he’s «always packing.» Liefeld poking fun at himself with his unique designs for the Pouch was warmly received by readers, as he’s often overly serious about his work. 

The Pouch officially debuted in «Bloodstrike» #23 in a two-page story from Liefeld titled «The Pouch,» where the pouch-filled hero takes down crime to protect the city he loves. In a hilarious scene, the comic ends with the Pouch resting in bed, where all of the different pouches that make up his body are seen split up. While Liefeld probably isn’t thrilled whenever pouch- or design-related criticisms are sent his way (whether fair or unfair), creating the Pouch showed he has a sense of humor regarding one of his most notable drawing crutches. 

However, given Joss Whedon’s dislike for pouches without any direct purpose, don’t expect him to adapt the Pouch to the big screen any time soon. His choice to not let recognizable Marvel characters have any unnecessary pouches during «The Avengers» has led to subsequent MCU costume designs following the same trend of simplification.

In the wake of «Robin Hood,» Russell Crowe elected to take a break from acting and heal his legs. When he inevitably returned to the big screen, though, he did so in a somewhat more memorable and better-received feature: «Man of Steel» from director Zack Snyder. The DC Extended Universe-launching 2013 film features Crowe as the father of Kal-El (Henry Cavill), aka Superman, Jor-El. While he’s far from the main star of the movie, he still went through an intense training regimen to bring the Kryptonian to life.

In fact, Crowe told People that between the year off from acting and his «Man of Steel» workout routine, his legs seemed to heal up on their own. «I obviously knew something was wrong,» he admitted, adding, «To be the Kryptonian father of Superman was six months of incredibly intense physical training. Between the time off and that training, things fixed themselves.» Seeing as he went to a medical professional to get his legs looked at years later, it stands to reason he didn’t make a full recovery by resting and hitting the gym, but the fact that his legs largely healed all by themselves is undeniably incredible.

Now knowing what Crowe went through on the set of «Robin Hood,» hopefully, some of its detractors can find a newfound form of appreciation for the film and offer Crowe a bit more credit for his performance.

Some actors are known for being difficult. Unfortunately, Shannen Doherty developed this reputation on the set of «Beverly Hills 90210.» Doherty recently opened up on her podcast, «Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty,» about how struggles in her personal life affected her behavior on the set of the series, and how she wishes someone would have impressed upon her what was going to happen if she kept arriving late and fighting with co-stars.

The behind-the-scenes drama on «90210,» often between Doherty and Jennie Garth, who played Kelly, was disruptive to the set. Garth wrote about an argument that turned physical in her memoir, «Deep Thoughts From a Hollywood Blonde,» explaining how their on-set argument was taken outside: «Before we could kill each other, Luke [Perry] and Jason [Priestly] dived into the middle of it and pulled us apart. It was ridiculous» (per Yahoo!).

After this incident, Tori Spelling went to her father, executive producer Aaron Spelling, and their conversation ultimately led to Doherty being fired from the hit show. Spelling still feels guilty. On the Lifetime special, «Tori Spelling: Celebrity Lie Detector,» Spelling talked about getting Doherty fired. «I felt like I was a part of something, a movement, that cost someone their livelihood,» Spelling confessed (per Us magazine). «Was she a horrible person? No. She was one of the best friends I ever had.»

While Denis Villeneuve didn’t find David Lynch’s «Dune» adaptation to be perfect, he knew that he was witnessing something interesting. In his chat with «Fresh Air,» Villeneuve gushed about his initial excitement for the film, discussing how he was the biggest «Dune» fan on the block. «I was very excited when I learned that the book would be brought to the screen,» the director said, adding, «I remember watching the movie and being very mesmerized and impressed by how David Lynch approached it.» 

«Dune» was Lynch’s first foray into sci-fi blockbuster filmmaking — he had just come off of the Oscar-nominated «The Elephant Man,» which established him as one of Hollywood’s most interesting newcomers. And for what it’s worth, Villeneuve does have positive things to say about the «Twin Peaks» creator’s vision of Arrakis. «Yeah, David Lynch has a very strong identity as a filmmaker, of course, and it bled into the — it’s a fantastic interpretation of the book,» Villeneuve said, before noting that he was immediately curious to see another adaptation of the novel. 

 Years later, the filmmaker would get the illustrious job of directing the notoriously unadaptable book, which proved to be a challenge for Villeneuve.
