Many elements of Rob Bliss’ Joker design made their way into the final version of the character we see in «The Dark Knight.» For instance, though the Joker’s facial scarring isn’t as severe in the Christopher Nolan sequel, it is noticeable and becomes a pivotal part of the character’s menace, with now-iconic lines like «Wanna know how I got these scars?»
Of course, the purple suit and jacket also made it into «The Dark Knight,» but the jacket was made longer, and it looks like his shirt collar isn’t quite so dingy. That could just be a coloring difference between the concept art and the final product, but they do look a little different in their presentation.
Though the sunken eyes and dark makeup remain a part of the design in «The Dark Knight,» again, they’re a bit less severe. In Bliss’s design, the Joker looks like he’s witnessed eldritch horrors or survived a horrific massacre of some kind. Though the final version is still plenty dark, he does not have the horror-level black eyes that he had initially.
Walker Scobell’s first movie, «The Adam Project,» saw him star alongside Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldaña. For any comic book movie fan, that’s him appearing next to Deadpool, Hulk, Elektra, and Gamora. Expectedly, like nearly everyone else on the planet, Scobell is well-versed in all things related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and considers himself more than a casual admirer of superhero films.
In fact, he declared to PopSugar that his biggest goal as an actor is to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at some point, and he loved sharing the screen with those who have had the opportunity already. «My dream job is to act as an Avenger,» he said. «Every time I turned around [on ‘The Adam Project’ set], there’s another superhero behind me. It was like a dream come true … They were so nice to me and treated me like I wasn’t just a kid.»
Considering how the MCU continues to expand and grow out its universe with every new film and television series, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility to see Scobell become an Avenger someday. Marvel Studios started to carve out its Young Avengers team with the likes of Kamala Khan and Cassie Lang, so there’s always the chance the powers-that-be could find a spot for another talented young actor.
It’s not much of a stretch to see Jensen Ackles as Batman. He’s voiced the character in numerous animated DC films, including «Batman: The Long Halloween,» «Legion of Super-Heroes,» and «Justice League: Warworld.» Ackles already has the vigilante’s voice down; it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to see him in the suit, which is likely why the prospective casting has dominated Reddit discussion threads and fan art for a while now. But what’s the likelihood of Jensen Ackles in «The Brave and the Bold» actually happening?
The actor is up for being the next iteration of Gotham’s Guardian. While at the Jus in Bello Convention in June 2023, Ackles was asked about supposed rumors he could be the next live-action Batman. He obviously couldn’t say anything specific (assuming he knows anything) but stated, «I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.» The «Supernatural» star playing a live-action Batman almost occurred once before, as Misha Collins revealed how there was talk of getting Ackles to play Bruce Wayne on «Gotham Knights.» It would’ve just been for a flashback, but it may have satiated fans. Then again, Bruce Wayne meets a bloody end on «Gotham Knights,» which could’ve angered audiences for wasting perfect casting.
«The Brave and the Bold» probably won’t come out until 2026 at the earliest, so it could take some time before we find out who’s Batman. Given the response to KH Studio’s fanmade trailer and everything else surrounding Ackles as the Dark Knight, the creative team would do well to at least consider him for the part.
You might think that Ian McDiarmid would be the oldest member of the original Star Wars trilogy cast, as his character — the evil Emperor Palpatine — isn’t exactly a young buck in «Return of the Jedi.» In reality, the actor is only 79 years old. He wasn’t even 40 when he first appeared in the role, leaving plenty of time for him to reprise the villain in the prequel trilogy and «The Rise of Skywalker.»
Though he’s dabbled in other screen roles apart from Star Wars, McDiarmid has primarily been a stage actor and director. The Scottish thespian has continued to perform on stage and via audio dramas, still showing a preference for Shakespeare, but he’s admittedly less active these days. Given the incredible career that he’s built, that’s more than understandable.
As far as his Star Wars legacy goes, McDiarmid seems to be nothing but appreciative and content. «As a kid, I always wanted to be the baddie,» he said in a 2021 interview with The Guardian. «As he gets older, he gets more destructive. In the last movie, he defied death, which was great to play … What’s fascinating is that he never went away from those movies; his ghastly presence ran them. I get a strange satisfaction from that.» McDiarmid must still enjoy playing Darth Sidious, as he’s returned several times to voice him in shows like «Star Wars: The Bad Batch» and «Tales of the Jedi.»
While Patrick Stewart admitted that he was underwhelmed by «Star Trek: Insurrection,» he was so dejected by the outcome of «Star Trek: Nemesis» that he thought his missions to the final frontier were completely in the rear-view mirror. «‘Nemesis’ was a dud, as far as I was concerned,» Stewart wrote in «Making it So.» «By the time it had come and gone, I wanted no further part of sci-fi, uniforms, or anything to do with outer space. I was convinced that my time as Jean-Luc Picard was consigned forever to the past.»
Stewart wasn’t the only cast member who was underwhelmed by the film. William Riker actor Jonathan Frakes admitted that «Star Trek: Nemesis» didn’t work because the film focuses more on the villain, Praetor Shinzon (Tom Hardy), and doesn’t concentrate enough on Picard, Riker, and the «family» — aka crew members Data (Brent Spiner), Geordi La Forge (Levar Burton), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), Worf (Michael Dorn), and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden).
If there was any emotion felt by Stewart during the making of «Star Trek: Nemesis,» it stemmed from the love he had for his longtime family of castmates since the actor knew their time together was coming to an end. As such, there was a scene that made Stewart break down in tears at the film’s conclusion, when Picard bids farewell to Riker and effectively, his dear friends. Happily, Stewart reunited with all of the core cast members of «Star Trek: The Next Generation,» as each of them appeared in the Paramount+ spin-off series «Star Trek: Picard,» which ran for three seasons from 2020 to 2023.
During a 2019 interview with Deadline, shortly after it was announced that James Gunn would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the director broke his silence on the matter to ensure that nobody pointed a finger at the studio. Gunn insisted that he didn’t blame anyone other than himself for the termination. By his own admission, the comments for which he was initially fired fell within a reasonable window for official action. With that framework in mind, Gunn likened his attitude toward Marvel to his attitude toward his ex-wife.
«I would hate to look back on the six years that my wife and I were together and think, ‘Oh, what a waste of time.’ Instead, I think it was a time when I really grew a lot and we were really good to each other,» said Gunn. «I wanted to feel that way about Disney. I didn’t want to look back and feel bitter, upset, or angry … I just wanted to be comfortable saying goodbye and splitting up, and that’s where my head was at, even in the very early meeting we had, a week or two weeks after it all happened.»
Gunn’s statement, and others like it, don’t preclude the possibility of more stressors affecting him behind closed doors. That said, he’s notably forthcoming with information on social media when fans ask for it, and his information is typically accurate, so it’s reasonable to take him at his word when he says that Marvel did not make writing «Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3» more difficult. Sometimes, it really is just about the art, and sometimes the art is hard. Maybe Gunn will have an easier time with «Superman: Legacy»?
Though she was speaking of only her own experiences, Sofía Vergara’s comments are indicative of the way many Spanish-speaking actors have encountered accent-themed difficulties in Hollywood — and the stereotypes the industry has historically associated with their accents. The issue is an old one, as the industry has a long tradition of typecasting Hispanic actors.
As «Barbie» and «Superstore» star America Ferrera told The New York Times, she encountered the issue the second she started in the industry. «My very first audition ever, I was about 16, and the casting director [for a commercial] said, ‘Can you do it again but sound more Latino?’» Ferrera said. «I had no idea what she was talking about. ‘You mean you want me to speak in Spanish?’ She’s like: ‘No. Do it in English but just sound more Latino.’ I genuinely didn’t realize until later that she was asking me to speak English with a broken accent.»
Neither Jimmy Smits («NYPD Blue,» «Sons of Anarchy») nor Eva Longoria («Desperate Housewives,» «The Sentinel») entered the industry with noticeable accents, but both have been told that they needed one to fit a certain stereotype. «I remember moving to L.A. and auditioning and not being Latin enough for certain roles,» Longoria said to The New York Times. «Some white male casting director was dictating what it meant to be Latin. He decided I needed an accent.»
KH Studio’s trailer has sparked interest from fans who miss seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. For example, YouTube user @ricketyclickit commented, «It would be awesome if something like this came out though. You get an e for effort.» While a direct successor likely isn’t in the cards, Jackman’s time as Wolverine may still have some life left in it beyond «Deadpool 3,» with «Avengers: Secret Wars» rumors teasing the appearance of his Wolverine and the two movie Spider-Men played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who also appeared in «Spider-Man: No Way Home.»
«Secret Wars» could be the multiversal superhero movie to end all multiversal superhero movies, with numerous characters from previous Marvel movies entering the fray, but everything is just speculation for the moment. Moreover, a lot can change between now and the movie’s 2027 release date, and one would imagine Marvel would want to lay to rest Jackman’s Wolverine at some point to introduce a new Logan specific to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For now, though, fans are having fun imagining what could’ve been with the fan-made «Logan 2» trailer. Surely, somewhere out there in the Multiverse, a «Logan» sequel actually exists.
The Schwarzenegger Middle-earth AI deepfake feels like nothing more than a fever dream that exists somewhere between high fantasy and classic sci-fi. The first clip begins with a close-up of Arnold-Elrond explaining in that deep Austrian brogue that the council has only one choice — to destroy the Ring. From there, we see a distressed Boromir Schwarzenegger before cutting to a long-haired Frodo looking every bit like a deeply concerned version of the Austrian Oak. Schwarzy-Gimli says, «Then what are we waiting for?» before bringing his axe down on the Ring. In the original film, Gimli actor John Rhys-Davies utters a deep growling roar as his axe explodes, sending him flying backward. In the voiceover Arnie version, the action is accompanied by a rolling, guttural sound that is trademark Schwarzenegger and arguably the funniest moment of the entire clip.
From there, we see a back-and-forth conversation, all in the Governator’s iconic accent, that rolls right into the second installment of the video series as Elrond, Boromir, Legolas, and Gimli debate about how the One Ring can’t be destroyed by any craft that they possess, it was made in the fires of Mount Doom, yada yada. We even get a Boromir shot of the meme-worthy «One does not simply walk into Mordor» line — Schwarzenegger style.
The clip is extraordinary because the dramatics are still there, and the tension is still high. But the Schwarzenegger visuals and voiceovers are the deepfake equivalent of the ultimate photobomb. They give the entire thing the feel of an AI fever dream that you simultaneously don’t want to watch and can’t look away from.
You may have assumed that we were going to discuss Kate Winslet’s marriage to Sam Mendes when you saw her name on this list, but Winslet and Mendes had already been married for several years when they made 2008’s «Revolutionary Road» together. We’re actually referring to Winslet’s previous marriage to filmmaker Jim Threapleton, who courted the star in the late ’90s after meeting her while making the 1998 film «Hideous Kinky,» the movie she made right after «Titanic.»
Threapleton was an assistant director on «Hideous Kinky,» the tale of an English woman who relocates to Morocco with her two young daughters. As dramatic as the film is, it seems that the romance between Winslet and Threapleton was even more so, because they were soon married. It was «love at first sight,» the actor said. «Before I met Jim I was very much, ‘Oh I don’t believe in marriage,’» Winslet told The Guardian at the time. «But we don’t want to be without each other. Ever.»
They welcomed daughter Mia Threapleton in 2000, but the marriage didn’t last. Within a year of their daughter’s arrival, Winslet and Threapleton were done. It was an «amicable and respectful» split, Winslet’s rep said (via ABC News). Today, Mia Threapleton is an actor herself. She appeared alongside her mother in 2014’s «A Little Chaos,» and, more recently, they worked together on an episode of the female-led anthology series «I Am.» Winslet revealed that she was «blown away» by her daughter’s performance during an appearance on «Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg» (via People).
A diferencia de la app Google Fotos, la aplicación nativa ‘Fotos’ de Apple está cerrada al propio ecosistema de Apple. Y entiendo perfectamente a quienes optan por esa primera o cualquier otra alternativa para almacenar sus fotos. Sin embargo, creo también firmemente en el potencial de la app de Apple en muchas facetas, incluyendo la edición con mejoras como las que integró en iOS 17.
Aunque si hay una función que creo infravaloramos a menudo, esa es la del buscador. Es el que está situado en la pestaña derecha de la app y que puede pasar desapercibido por mezclarse con sugerencias. Sin embargo, es lo mejor para encontrar cualquier foto o vídeo en cuestión de segundos. Y todo gracias a la inteligencia artificial que usa Apple en el sistema sin que nos estemos dando cuenta.
La app ‘Fotos’ permite buscar prácticamente cualquier cosa
Como verás en la anterior captura, en la app ‘Fotos’ acumulo más de 8.000 vídeos y 75.000 fotos (la mayoría sincronizadas con iCloud, ya que es inconcebible para los 128 GB de mi iPhone). Si bien la mayoría están bien ordenadas por su tipo, lo cierto es que la forma más rápida de encontrar el contenido que busco a cada momento es el buscador.
Este, como ya decía en la introducción, se encuentra como un cuadro de búsqueda en la parte inferior de la sección ‘Buscar’ de la app ‘Fotos’. Y en él es posible encontrar todo tipo de contenido con búsquedas que se dividen de la siguiente forma:
Por fechas: podemos buscar desde fechas concretas con su número de día, mes y año, hasta meses y años enteros. Uno al que recurro mucho es a buscar la fecha en la que estamos sin año, tipo «3 de febrero» para que así me sirva de recordatorio de que estaba haciendo un día como hoy en años anteriores.
Por tipo: podemos buscar únicamente fotos o únicamente vídeos, pero dentro de todo ello podemos especificar buscando fotografías hechas en modo retrato, vídeos hechos a cámara lenta y más.
Por personas: nuestro iPhone es capaz también de identificar a las personas. Basta con abrir cualquier foto en la que salga, deslizar hacia arriba y pulsar el icono con su cara. Podremos darle nombres a estos álbumes para que así queden así localizados. La clave en el buscador es poder escribir directamente el nombre de esa persona y buscar todas las fotos y vídeos en los que aparezcan.
Por mascota: al igual que para las personas, en iOS 17 se añadió el reconocimiento de mascotas, por lo que podemos también usar el buscador para localizar todo el contenido en el que aparezcan.
Por lugares: si recordamos haber tomado una fotografía en un determinado lugar, podemos buscarlo con esa etiqueta. Se puede utilizar tanto el nombre de la ciudad en genérico, como un lugar en concreto como puede ser un parque o un restaurante.
Por objetos: sí, el iPhone es capaz de reconocer todos los objetos. Así, podemos buscar fotografías y vídeos de edificios, de coches, de flores, de latas de refresco, de pizzas… Lo que queramos.
Por circunstancias: aparte de objetos, el iPhone es capaz también de identificar algunas situaciones como fiestas o estaciones del año. Por tanto, podemos también dejar volar la imaginación en la búsqueda.
Por texto: gracias a las funciones de detección de textos añadidas en iOS 15, podemos encontrar fotografías en las que aparezca una determinada palabra o frase, ideal para encontrar algunos documentos o escenas en las que recordemos que sale algún cartel o letrero con ellas.
Lo mejor es combinar varias búsqueda
Anteriormente te he descrito los principales tipos de búsqueda que nos deja la app ‘Fotos’. Sin embargo, lo mejor de todos es combinarlas y realizar búsquedas mucho más concretas que a la postre nos sirvan para encontrar las fotos y vídeos que queremos de forma más rápida.
Por ejemplo, imagina que queremos encontrar una fotografía que hicimos en modo retrato a nuestro perro Toby, en el parque del centro de la ciudad, y en el año 2022. Pues basta con buscar las siguientes etiquetas ‘Retratos’, ‘Toby’, ‘Nombre de la Ciudad’ y ‘2022’. Y ya lo tendríamos.
Cabe decir que tampoco es necesario llenar todo de etiquetas, ya que con dos podría bastar. En mi experiencia personal, es al final lo más cómodo para tampoco aturullar demasiado al iPhone, dado que quizás estemos errando en alguna de las etiquetas al pensar que era de un tipo diferente al que es y eso nos frustre la búsqueda.
Y ahora te preguntarás, ¿falla en alguna ocasión este buscador? Y yo te diré que sí, pero que en muy contadas ocasiones. Llevo años recurriendo a él y puedo asegurar que casi nunca me ha fallado. Cuando lo ha hecho ha sido por circunstancias muy concretas como estar buscando una foto de mi perro y que este en realidad salga medio de refilón en la imagen, haya poca luz y fuese irreconocible.
Así pues, si usas la aplicación de ‘Fotos’ en tu iPhone, te recomiendo encarecidamente probar este buscador. Y es que puede incluso ahorrarte la tarea de organizar tus fotos, algo que también recomiendo, pero que a veces es complicado cuando tenemos muchas fotos.
While «The Talented Mr. Ripley» shares many of its plot points and character motivations with «Saltburn,» viewers who enjoyed the latter because of its shocking scenes of depravity will be let down if they expect the same from Anthony Minghella’s psychological thriller. Though there are shocking bursts of violence as Tom loses himself to his increasingly vast web of lies, nothing in «The Talented Mr. Ripley» approaches the infamy of the graveyard or bathtub scenes in «Saltburn.» On the other hand, the 1999 film does tick a lot of the same boxes and manages to execute them even better.
Critics agree, too, as «The Talented Mr. Ripley» outstrips «Saltburn» on Rotten Tomatoes by 85% to 71%. The audience margin is narrower — 80% to 79% — but either way, that ought to be enough to have fans of Emerald Fennell’s film at least intrigued at the prospect of watching the late-’90s thriller.
Furthermore, with the upcoming Netflix limited series «Ripley,» with Andrew Scott, set to retell the events of «The Talented Mr. Ripley,» there’s never been a better time to watch the film. After all, considering the time jump and the expanded runtime, the upcoming series is bound to be different from the 1999 adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s book. Finally, with a cast that also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Cate Blanchett, the film is an absolute showcase for its actors, on top of being a taut thriller.
El Samsung Galaxy Ring fue la gran sorpresa del último evento Unpacked donde se presentó la serie Galaxy S24, aunque fue más un teaser que una presentación al uso. Es lo mismo que hizo Samsung hace unos años con el primer Samsung Galaxy Fold. El Galaxy Ring será el primer anillo inteligente de Samsung y, aunque todavía no conocemos todos los detalles, sí tenemos las principales claves.
Centrado en la salud
La confirmación y el teaser del Samsung Galaxy Ring llegó justo a continuación de las novedades de salud de Samsung Health y no por casualidad: el principal foco del anillo es la salud, como complemento o suplemento de otros dispositivos como un smartwatch. Lo podremos usar, por ejemplo, para monitorizar el sueño si tenemos un smartwatch pero preferimos quitárnoslo para dormir.
El Samsung Galaxy Ring es más pequeño y ligero que un smartwatch, por lo que resulta menos invasivo para dormir con él y llevarlo puesto en todo momento. Además, si bien Samsung no nos confirmó qué otros sensores se incluiran en el anillo, es de esperar que como mínimo cuente con un pulsómetro y pueda medir el nivel de oxígeno en sangre.
Tendrá varios tamaños y colores
El Samsung Galaxy Ring es, ante todo, un anillo, así que tiene distintos tamaños y necesitaremos pedir la talla para nuestro dedo, pues aquí no hay correas ajustables como en los smartwatch.Samsung deberá darnos alguna herramienta para poder medir la talla correctamente si lo vamos a comprar online, aunque por el momento no sabemos cómo lo hará. Es de esperar que cuanto más grande sea el anillo, más batería tenga.
Además de la talla, tendremos varios colores para elegir, aunque esto podría cambiar pues el Galaxy Ring sigue siendo un prototipo pendiente de ser pulido antes de su comercialización final. Los colores disponibles a día de hoy son sobrios, a la espera de si habrá sorpresas cuando finalmente se pongan a la venta.
Cóncavo por fuera, liso por dentro
Algo que parece claro es el diseño del Galaxy Ring. Es un anillo con un diseño ligeramente cóncavo que facilita que nos lo podamos poner y quitar fácilmente. Esto será de agradecer pues, a diferencia del anillo de boda, lo vamos a tener que poner a cargar con una frecuencia que está todavía por determinar.
Por dentro, el diseño es plano salvo por las protuberancias que hay encima de los sensores, necesarias para mejorar las mediciones. Hecho de titanio, el Galaxy Ring se nota especialmente ligero.
Mejor en el dedo índice
El Galaxy Ring no tendrá que competir por el dominio del dedo anular con tu anillo de boda, pues Hok Pak, vice presidente y Head of Digital Care de Samsung, nos indicó que recomiendan llevarlo en el dedo índice. Esta recomendación no llega por estética, sino porque en Samsung han detectado que en este dedo se consiguen mejores lecturas en comparación a las que obtenemos en el resto.
Del Galaxy Ring seguimos teniendo bastantes incógnitas y es que lo que Samsung nos mostró en el Unpacked fue más un teaser que un tráiler. El anillo debería presentarse «de verdad» este año, probablemente en la segunda mitad del mismo. Conoceremos entonces el resto de detalles y lo más importante, su precio.
After the public found out that Ben Stiller screen tested for the part of Link in «Encino Man,» Pauly Shore, who plays Stoney in the film, unearthed footage of the screen test from his personal collection and posted it to his personal YouTube account.
The screen test, it turns out, features full sets and costumes, to the extent it could almost be a scene from the final product were it not for a visible time code and its unique cast. As the caveman Link, Stiller is heavily made up to look like a prehistoric human. He’s in a suburban bedroom, presumably just after being unfrozen like the character is near the start of the actual film.
Meanwhile, it’s Jeff Maynard playing an early version of Stoney, alongside Keith Coogan portraying what would become Sean Astin’s character, Dave. Before the screen test ends, Link gets a makeover soundtracked by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ cover of «Higher Ground,» making him resemble the band’s vocalist, Anthony Kiedis, and his look from that era.
This footage doesn’t necessarily recontextualize «Encino Man» to any significant degree, but it does offer a glimpse of an alternate history in which one of Stiller’s first lead roles in a major comedy film would have come a few years before «Heavyweights» premiered in 1995 and almost a decade before «Zoolander» in 2001.
It’s difficult to not understand the frustration that fans feel for Sasha Calle after her behemoth turn as Supergirl in «The Flash.» Calle was excited by the opportunity to represent Latinas around the world when she first got the gig. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly prior to the release of the speedster’s solo flick, Calle opened up about how playing Supergirl was a monumental moment for diversity. «People are like, ‘Well, we don’t really mean [Latinas]. Latinas aren’t on the big screen as superheroes, so why would you do that?’ It’s that idea of why representation matters,» Calle candidly said.
Beyond getting the opportunity to play one of the most iconic characters in the DC roster, Calle was pleased with the idea of inspiring the next generation of performers. «But that’s my hope, that people who relate to me or see themselves in me can be like, ‘Yeah, we belong there as well. Those dreams are definitely achievable,’» she discussed.
Unfortunately, «The Flash» cratered, emerging as a box office flop for DC. Despite the negative press surrounding the film, Calle was praised for her tortured performance as Kara. And things seemed positive for Calle’s future in the DC universe — she even met with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss her next steps with the franchise. But like most superhero characters, it’s onto the next actor. While Calle may be out as Kara, Gunn is excited to see what Milly Alcock can do as Supergirl.
Despite losing Bad Bunny in the lead role of «El Muerto,» the movie still appears to be happening. The film is now back in development, according to the Variety article. It remains to be seen whether its previous director, Jonás Cuarón, the son of Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón, is still attached. However, there haven’t been any reports about him leaving the project — as Sony really hasn’t discussed the project much after Bad Bunny’s departure.
Considering Sony’s strategy of pumping out standalone movies with sub-$100 million budgets, like the upcoming «Madame Web» starring Dakota Johnson in the titular role, the seemingly dire fate of «El Muerto,» even without Bad Bunny appearing, appears somewhat exaggerated. «El Muerto» is on the table for Sony, as the production can be relatively affordable compared to other superhero films, lessening the pressure of it needing to be a massive hit at the box office. Still, it will be quite a challenge for the production to replace the former lead star of the film, as Bad Bunny’s popularity would have attracted many fans to a comic book property that isn’t exactly a household name. His combination of star power, wrestling skills, and physicality would have made him a perfect fit to portray the Marvel character.
Now, Sony is going back to the drawing board as «El Muerto» gets retooled in development, which the casting search again ongoing to bring El Muerto to life.
In the end, Gus Van Sant’s and Alex Pettyfer’s aspirations to direct and star in 2015’s «50 Shades of Grey» fell short. The role of Christian Grey — a billionaire business magnate who has a penchant for sadism and masochism, among other dicey erotic practices — went to Jamie Dornan, while the directing gig ended up with Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The performer who stepped into the role of Grey’s lover, Anastasia Steele, for the audition didn’t make the final cut, either. «I forget her name,» Van Sant told THR. «Ugh! She’d been in ‘Nip/Tuck,’ I think. She had done some good work.»
The key role of Anastasia, of course, went to Dakota Johnson. As it turns out, her turn as Christian’s object of obsession is the role Johnson is the most embarrassed by. Coupled with the fact that «50 Shades of Grey» was lambasted by critics and audiences, it appears Van Sant and Pettyfer may have sidestepped a professional landmine.
On the flip side, «50 Shades of Grey» was a monster hit despite all of the negative publicity it attracted, earning $570.7 million at the global box office against a $40 million production budget. Along with the ticket sales for the other two «50 Shades of Grey» movies — 2017’s «50 Shades Darker» and 2018’s «50 Shades Free» — the trilogy made a whopping $1.3 billion against a combined $150 million budget.
Tim Cook lleva veinticinco años en Apple, y casi 13 como CEO. En la entrevista que le hizo Dua Lipa hace un par de semanas, Cook volvió a hablar de un tema del que ya ha ido dejando alguna pincelada: su sucesión como líder de Apple.
Cook cumplió 63 años hace unas semanas y es consciente de que su tiempo al frente de la empresa no será eterno. Ya en 2021 dijo a Kara Swisher que no pasaría otros diez años al frente de Apple, la empresa a la que ha llevado a una valoración de tres billones de dólares.
Edad, experiencia y veteranía
Si Cook dijo que no pasaría otro decenio como CEO de Apple en 2021, significa que como muy tarde, el reemplazo llegará en 2030. Si una prioridad es que el próximo CEO de Apple venga de la propia empresa, el primer lugar en el que empezar a buscarlo es en su listado de directivos, que encabeza el propio Cook.
La edad es una cuestión importante. Difícilmente un treintañero será el próximo CEO de Apple, pero alguien demasiado cerca de su edad de jubilación no tendría demasiado recorrido en el cargo. Y si por algo se ha caracterizado este puesto en los últimos veinticinco años, con solo dos personas distintas en él, tan diferentes entre ellas, es por la estabilidad. Apple no es el tipo de empresa que cambia de CEO cada poco tiempo.
Cook llegó al puesto a los 51 años. En ese momento, el otro gran nombre de las quinielas para relevar a Jobs era el de Scott Forstall, que entonces tenía 42 años. Jony Ive, otro posible candidato de la época, tenía 44.
Hoy, los directivos de Apple promedian una edad bastante superior. Solo dos tienen menos de cincuenta años y la mayoría están más cerca de los sesenta.
Si el consejo de Apple opta por un perfil que suponga un proyecto de largo plazo, como ha sido el de Cook, los elegidos deberían estar en la zona entre Craig Federighi y Sabin Khan, aproximadamente: muchos años en Apple, pero no demasiado cerca de la jubilación. El problema es que no hay muchos ahí.
Vamos con algunos de los nombres más destacados en esta carrera:
Jeff Williams
Director de Operaciones, justo el puesto que antes ocupaba Cook y que ha ganado aún más peso en los últimos años. Jony Ive se marchó y lo más similar a su puesto, sin ser lo mismo, fue ocupado por Evans Hankey. Cuando ella también se fue, Diseño pasó a quedar controlado por Operaciones, un signo de la Apple de estos tiempos. Williams lidera esa facción.
Su estilo de gestión es similar al de Cook, y su influencia en la empresa ha sido creciente. Por otro lado, tiene 60 años. Si todavía faltan unos cuantos más para el relevo, su edad sería un pequeño impedimento. No absoluto, porque nada le impediría seguir unos cuantos años en el cargo, pero sí es un factor a considerar.

Craig Federighi
VP de Ingeniería de Software, Federighi es uno de los pocos nombres carismáticos de puertas hacia fuera. La era de Jobs, Ive, Forstall y compañía terminó, y con ella, la de la Apple mesiánica. El propio Cook es mucho más frío, viene de Operaciones y nunca ha tenido ni ha buscado tener el aura de genio creativo que tenían los antes mencionados.
Federighi es diferente. Cada vez más promocionado en eventos y entrevistas, sabe meterse a la audiencia en el bolsillo con su sonrisa contagiosa y un sentido del humor perenne. Dicen de él que es metódico y sencillo. Tiene buenas habilidades comunicativas, reconocimiento interno y una experiencia clave en la transición a Apple Silicon, además de una edad bastante propicia para un proyecto de largo recorrido: 54 años. No obstante, quizás provoque cierta incertidumbre un perfil así en un puesto de máximo liderazgo.

Greg Joswiak
Director de Marketing Global, nadie en la directiva de Apple lleva tanto tiempo como él en la empresa. Está cerca de cumplir cuarenta años en ella, ha vivido la gestión de cinco CEOs distintos, ha visto cómo Apple estuvo a punto de desaparecer en los noventa y ha visto cómo ha pasado del abismo a ser la empresa de mayor capitalización bursátil del mundo. Y desde un departamento tan importante en Apple como Marketing.
En su contra juega también la edad: solo otros tres directivos, incluyendo a Cook y a alguien descartado para el relevo como es Schiller, son más mayores que él. De hecho, quizás para Joswiak tenga más sentido pensar en un relevo para su puesto que planear su salto al rol de CEO, aunque tampoco es descartable dada su ascendencia en la empresa y su enorme recorrido en ella.

Eddy Cue
Vicepresidente Senior de Servicios, otra de las divisiones que ha salido reforzada en los últimos años… al menos por los puros ingresos de la misma, posibles matices al margen. Más allá de sus años recientes, su legado va mucho más allá: lleva casi treinta y cinco años en Apple y ha sido clave en los lanzamientos de la Apple Store online (1998), la iTunes Store (2003) o la App Store (2008).
Más recientemente, el desarrollo de la propia App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV+ o Apple Pay han nacido y crecido bajo su liderazgo. Su formación académica combina computación y finanzas, por lo que gana enteros para liderar a Apple en el futuro. En su contra, su edad: 59 años. Aunque insistimos, no debería ser algo absoluto, sobre todo viendo que es algo común en casi todos los directivos.

Katherine Adams
¿Y si…? El perfil de Adams, Vicepresidenta Senior de Seguridad Legal y Global, y Asesora General, no parece demasiado predestinado a ocupar el rol de CEO por su contexto jurídico, además de que su edad es la misma que la de Cue y similar a la de Williams y Joswiak. Por otro lado, apenas lleva un lustro en Apple… pero pocos empleados han llegado tan rápidamente a la directiva y se han convertido en una de las manos derechas de Cook.
Adams lidera los asuntos legales, incluyendo gobernanza, propiedad intelectual, litigios, privacidad, seguridad global o cumplimiento de valores. Su salto al rol de CEO también implicaría la primera figura femenina que ocupa este cargo en la historia de Apple, hasta ahora reservado a hombres.

Desde que se unió a Apple en 2013 y asumió el rol de CFO en 2014, ha supervisado todas las funciones financieras, incluyendo contabilidad, análisis de negocios, tesorería, impuestos y auditoría interna.
Su experiencia previa en empresas como Xerox y Nokia le ha proporcionado una amplia visión de las finanzas en diferentes contextos empresariales. La persona escogida para relevar a Cook tendrá ante sí un reto mayor: sostener el crecimiento de una empresa que nació en los setenta, se consolidó en los ochenta, se hundió en los noventa, resucitó en los dos mil y despuntó como nadie en los años diez. Esta última etapa, con Cook al frente, el CEO al que sucederá.
La evolución de la capitalización bursátil de Apple deja claro de un vistazo cómo ha sido este recorrido… con el ascenso desenfrenado de la era Cook.
Bajo su mandato, Apple ha tenido muchos desafíos, como la consolidación del iPhone a partir de su quinta generación (vamos por la decimoséptima), el desarrollo del iPad tras su lanzamiento original, la llegada de gamas nuevas como Apple Watch, AirPods o HomePod; la transición del Mac hacia ARM usando chips de diseño propio, los avances en Realidad Aumentada con unas Vision Pro al caer o mantener todo este crecimiento en un mundo que cada vez mira con más lupa el impacto ambiental de ciertas decisiones.
No obstante, seguramente el más complicado ha sido hacerlo bajo la larguísima sombra de Steve Jobs, que dejó una herencia tan inigualable para los fans de la empresa como cierto es que la nostalgia omite pecados y dulcifica legados.
Tras el forzoso adiós de un CEO que era el alma de Apple y llevó el estándar de las presentaciones a un nivel inalcanzable para el resto, y el que se producirá esta década de otro CEO muy distinto pero que multiplicó el crecimiento de la empresa, tocará el «más difícil todavía»: si ya era complicado suceder a Jobs, más aún lo será suceder a Jobs y a Cook.

There are certainly places for Esposito to be dropped in the DCU, and Freeze isn’t the only option. Following rumors of Braniac appearing in «Superman: Legacy,» artists have taken the chance to see Giancarlo Esposito become Superman’s most powerful villain. Of course, it all depends on what roles Esposito is willing to accept, with the actor stating that he would like to play a superhero rather than a villain for a change. Makes sense, really. After you’ve spent so long playing characters that were wrecking people’s day, saving them would be a great break from routine.
