Rockstar Games announced this morning that they will be releasing a new version of 2010’s cowboy classic Red Dead Redemption on August 17 for the Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4.
The release will include straight ports of the original game as well as its zombie-themed add-on Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, and is developed by the UK-based Double Eleven Studios, known previously for developing the recent console ports of Rust and RimWorld.
The original Red Dead Redemption on the PS3 and Xbox 360 was a critical darling and fan favorite, bringing the structure and gameplay Rockstar is known for from Grand Theft Auto and bringing it to a wild west setting. This version seems mostly unchanged from the original—not a remaster or a remake—but Rockstar did confirm some new additions in the form of new languages being supported, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish. The PS4 version will also be fully playable via backwards compatibility on the PS5, making the game playable on all modern consoles (since the Xbox Series X|S are also backwards compatible with the original Xbox 360 version).
Red Dead Redemption will release digitally for $49.99 on August 17, with physical versions coming October 13.
Directed by Leszek Dawid, Netflix’s ‘Broad Peak’ is a Polish movie about the journey of mountain climber Maciej Berbeka. The adventure drama follows Maciej as he ventures on a conquest of the titular peak in the Karakoram, years after narrowly failing to complete the journey. As the narrative progresses, viewers learn the challenges he faces during his trips to the summit.
The movie is grounded in reality through its depiction of mountain climbing, making viewers wonder whether Maciej’s journey is based on actual events. So, if you want to learn more about the inspiration behind ‘Broad Peak,’ here is everything you need to know!
Is Broad Peak a True Story?
Yes, ‘Broad Peak’ is based on a true story. The movie depicts the life of Maciej Berbeka, a Polish mountaineer and mountain guide. Screenwriter Lukasz Ludkowski penned the screenplay inspired by Berbeka’s journey and his experiences atop Broad Peak. It is located in the Karakoram on the border of Pakistan and China and is the twelfth-highest mountain in the world, at 8,051 meters (26,414 ft) above sea level.
Berbeka was born on October 17, 1954, in Zakopane, Poland. While not much is known about his early life, he had established himself as one of the leading mountain climbers in the country during the 80s. Berbeka was a member of Union Internationale des Associations de Guides de Montagnes (UIAGM) and Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TOPR). Moreover, he was a member of “Ice Warriors,” a group of leading mountaineers from Poland known for their winter ascents.
Berbeka’s accomplishments include successful expeditions of Manaslu (in the Nepalese Himalayas), Cho Oyu (in the Himalayas), Annapurna (in the Gandaki Province of Nepal), and Mount Everest (in the Himalayas). In March 1988, the mountaineer climbed Broad Peak, but after over two days of climbing, he returned to the base camp, falling nearly 17 meters short of the summit. Almost 25 years later, in 2013, he decided to do the climb again. Berbeka accompanies with Adam Bielecki, Tomasz Kowalski, and Artur Małek.
On March 6, 2013, though the group reached the mountain’s peak, Berbeka and Kowalski were reported missing during the descent after they failed to make it to Camp 4. The base camp sent a rescue team after the duo could not contact the climbers. Krzysztof Wielicki, leader of the winter expedition of the Polish Mountaineering Association, stated that Berbeka and Kowalski were dead after no contact was made with the climbers for over two days.

The Netflix movie captures Berbeka’s life from his first ascent of Broad Peak until his eventual death. In an interview with Screen Daily, producer Maciej Rzączyński explained the film’s conceptualization based on the real-life mountain climbing legend’s life. He revealed that the idea came to him after he read author Jacek Hugo-Bader’s book ‘A Long Film About Love: Return To Broad Peak.’ It was published in 2014 and details the events leading up to Berbeka’s death atop Broad Peak.
“There was a big social conversation in Poland at the time about what happened there, and everyone seemed to have an opinion about what the mountaineers had been doing,” Rzączyński said. “I felt that the passion to want to climb up to the summit of these mountains was so strong that we should make a feature film about it and realized that this would be the first Polish feature about mountaineering because there hadn’t been any before,” the producer added. Thus, the studio approached Berbeka’s family, and production commenced after they approved the project.
From Rzączyński’s words, it is evident that the desire to tell real-life events and highlight the essence of mountaineering lay at the core of the biographical movie. Hence, viewers can connect with Berbeka’s journey and his passion for mountain climbing. While the film mostly sticks to facts, it is a dramatized retelling of the Polish mountaineer’s life and his tragic demise at the end of his journey. All things said, ‘Broad Peak’ is a fictionalized portrayal of a riveting yet lesser-known true story of Berbeka’s passion and resilience.
Netflix’s ‘The Lørenskog Disappearance’ starts with the kidnapping of a billionaire’s wife. The case proves to be a difficult one from the beginning, considering its high-profile victim and the threat of the kidnappers who claim that they are watching every move made against them. Throughout each episode, the crime drama show tackles the case from different perspectives, focusing on the human element rather than the criminal one.
Created by Nikolaj Frobenius and Stephen Uhlander, the series presents a convoluted version of a complicated crime with no resolution. Things get so entangled by the end that one starts to wonder if this is how investigations move forward in real life. If you wonder whether the show is based on actual events, then here’s what you need to know about it. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Is The Lørenskog Disappearance a True Story?
Yes, ‘The Lørenskog Disappearance’ is based on a true story. It chronicles the real-life kidnapping case of 69-year-old Anne-Elisabeth Hagen, though some events and characters have been fictionalized for storytelling purposes. On October 31, 2018, her husband, Tom Hagen, came home to find his wife gone and a ransom note left in her stead at their home in Lørenskog. The kidnappers had demanded to be paid €9m in cryptocurrency, Monero. Moreover, they warned Hagen not to go to the police or the consequences would be disastrous for his wife.
However, Hagen found it better to get the police involved, though the investigation was kept secret to keep in line with the kidnappers’ demands, who never sent another letter but kept a line open for communication through the cryptocurrency platform. When asked for Anne-Elisabeth’s proof of life, they never gave one. On studying the ransom note, the cops found that it was written by someone fluent in Norwegian but had tried to make it look like they weren’t. Furthermore, the paper was purchased locally, yet there was no DNA evidence to proceed with the investigation.
The Hagen house also offered limited forensic evidence, with no sign of forced entry. After keeping the investigation a secret for about ten weeks, the cops came out about the case, hoping that the media exposure would help get some leads in their otherwise heavily impeded investigation. About the case, they said, “Our main theory is that the victim was kidnapped by unidentified perpetrators at her home. We have no proof she is alive, but we haven’t received any indication that she isn’t alive either.”
Image Credit: Bad Things: True Crime/ Youtube
With the kidnappers seemingly uninterested in establishing communication, after Hagen had paid around $1.45 million, the cops eventually turned their lens towards other possibilities, which is when he came under scrutiny. On April 28, 2020, he was arrested on charges including murder and accessory to murder and was remanded in custody. It was believed that either Hagen killed his wife or he had arranged it with the help of other criminal elements and set up the kidnapping to throw the cops off his tail. His house was thoroughly searched, along with the nearby lake and other properties of Hagen.
Inspector Tommy Brøske said, “The case is characterized by a clearly planned deception. As other hypotheses have been weakened, suspicions against Tom Hagen have gradually been strengthened.” They believed Hagen “had traces of a clear, premeditated misdirection.” The cops were further motivated by the belief that he and Anne-Elisabeth had a difficult marriage and that she wanted out of it while he was adamant not to.
Image Credit: Bad Things: True Crime/ Youtube
The pre-nuptial arrangement showed that Anne-Elisabeth would only get “£15,000 of his £156m fortune along with a plot of land and a Citroen car if the couple divorced” along with him getting “control over a property that Anne-Elisabeth had inherited from her parents.” This turned the suspicion on the husband. Nevertheless, the case did not hold in court, and Hagen was soon released from custody; he maintained his innocence. With the case still open, the cops haven’t been able to figure out what really happened to Anne-Elisabeth.
‘The Lørenskog Disappearance’ focuses on the investigation yet takes a different approach than the usual whodunit that gives a concrete resolution to the audience. Much like any case with a high-profile personality connected to it, public opinion becomes a crucial element in placing the blame on someone. As the story is told from the perspective of the cops, the journalists, the lawyers, and the informants, the show explores the various biases that come out while solving a crime.
As time passes, the investigators become more emotionally invested in such cases, and their stubbornness to find an answer often creates more problems in finding the correct answer. In exploring the story through such a lens, the show intends to throw light on how such cases are presented to the public and, with the impact of social media, how everyone feels free to pass their own opinions and verdict without being privy to the complete picture. The fragmented versions of a story and the impact it has on the people involved are what form the true core of the Netflix true-crime series.

¡Yo nunca me quito!

Directed by Stefano Mordini, Netflix’s crime drama movie ‘The Catholic School’ revolves around the male students of a renowned Catholic school in Rome, exploring their lives and how multiple students of the institution stoop into brutal acts of violence. Originally titled ‘La Scuola Cattolica,’ the Italian film primarily follows Angelo Izzo and Gianni Guido, whose actions are explored through the POV of their classmate, Edoardo Albinati.
Along with a relatable and realistic depiction of school years, the coming-of-age film tries to unravel the triggers behind the crimes Angelo and Gianni commit upon teaming up with another boy. Naturally, viewers must be intrigued about whether their lives and actions have real-life roots. Let us provide the answers!
Is The Catholic School a True Story?
Yes, ‘The Catholic School’ is based on a true story. The movie is an adaptation of the eponymous semi-autobiographical coming-of-age novel written by Edoardo Albinati, the real-life counterpart of the eponymous character. It revolves around the “Circeo Massacre,” committed by Angelo Izzo, Giovanni “Gianni” Guido, and Andrea Ghira. Angelo and Gianni studied with Edoardo at the time of the massacre. In September 1975, the duo first met Donatella Colasanti and Rosaria Lopez through a friend and planned to meet again.
On September 29, 1975, Angelo and Gianni led Donatella and Rosaria to a villa owned by Andrea Ghira’s family, located in San Felice Circeo, in the Lazio region of Italy. As per reports, both men then started to make sexual advances toward the two girls. Gianni threatened them with a gun when they didn’t comply and locked them up in a bathroom.
Angelo and Gianni were later joined by Andrea Ghira, who introduced himself to Donatella and Rosaria as Jacques Berenguer, the leader of the Marsigliesi clan. The three raped and tortured Donatella and Rosaria for 35 hours and reportedly drugged the two girls.
After cruelly raping Rosaria, Angelo, Gianni, and Andrea allegedly killed her by beating and drowning her in a bathtub. Furthermore, they reportedly tried to kill Donatella by strangling her, only for her to pretend that she was dead. The three friends then covered Rosaria’s dead body and Donatella with plastic and put them in the trunk of a Fiat 127 car, driving it to Rome. When the murderers were away from the vehicle, Donatella made sounds, earning the attention of a night watchman.
Soon, the Carabinieri officials arrived at the scene, and Gianni and Angelo were arrested in no time. However, Andrea ran away before the officials could apprehend him. In July 1976, the trio was sentenced to life imprisonment. Andrea was still on the run at the time of the sentence; he lived in Spain under a false identity and died in 1994 due to an overdose. Angelo was released in 2005 on parole for good conduct, only to kill two women during the parole period. In 2007, he was sentenced again to life imprisonment.

Lastly, Gianni became a free man in 2009 due to a reduced sentence, much to the dismay of Rosaria’s family. Meanwhile, on December 30, 2005, Donatella died from breast cancer at age 47. Even though Edoardo Albinati’s source material is based on a true story, creative liberties were taken by the author, which must have got reflected in the film as well.
“The Catholic School is based on events that actually happened, events to which, in part, I was a direct eyewitness. Working from those actual events, I’ve intertwined episodes and characters with varying percentages of fiction: some are concocted out of whole cloth, others owe a considerable debt to things that actually took place, to people who exist or once did,” the author wrote in the source text.

As far as director Stefano Mordini was concerned, ‘The Catholic School’ isn’t a film that solely addresses the lives and crimes of Angelo, Gianni, and Andrea. He had even omitted the fascist connections of the three murderers. In an interview in September 2021, the director revealed that he eliminated the fascist references to strictly address the patriarchal notion of using and seeing women as “objects.” Nevertheless, his depiction of the actual “Circeo massacre” is startling and heartwrenching.

It is amazing that the director of The Exorcist, the best horror movie ever made, was not completely defined by that film. William Friedkin’s terrifying opus came out 50 years ago, in 1973, and remains a shocking, evil thing—“when you watch The Exorcist, it still occasionally feels like you’re inviting cosmic calamity upon yourself, like it’s a sin to even remove that Blu-ray from its case,” writes our Jim Vorel. But before unleashing The Exorcist, Friedkin brought an innovative documentary style to the cop thriller, making The French Connection into an Oscar-winning, car-chasing, standard-setting piece of ’70s action. He broke barriers with queer cinema with The Boys in the Band and Cruising. He kickstarted the McConaissance with Killer Joe. A filmmaker of wide-ranging talent whose quick, surprising style has influenced directors across genres, Friedkin has died at age 87.
Variety and family friend Stephen Galloway confirmed that Friedkin died today in Los Angeles.
A master of tension and nervy energy, the filmmaker’s best work was also his most controversial. Discussing Killer Joe, Friedkin said, “the important thing is not ‘Does it go too far?’ but ‘Is it effective?’”
Friedkin’s work has always followed this ideal, whether that means upheaving the relationship between horror and religion, walking the line between homophobic stereotypes and progressive representation, or smashing us headlong into a corrupt, racist, desperately exciting cop thriller. The French Connection, for which he won the Best Director Oscar, goes plenty far, as Gene Hackman’s “Popeye” Doyle, a brutal adrenaline junkie of a police officer, bullies, shoots and careens through an unsuspecting public. It’s exhilarating and damning in equal measure.
But it is still The Exorcist that’s intensity and immediacy earned Friedkin the most imitators. Aside from the undeniably potent special effects, gripping style and chilling Satanic scenes, the work of the cast, including Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow and Linda Blair, makes the quiet moments of the William Peter Blatty adaptation into scenes of numbing hopelessness. Its balance of supernatural and natural horror, applying a realism Friedkin honed during his early career as a director of documentaries and live TV in Chicago, stuck in our hearts. It was so effective that audiences were lining up in the freezing cold for the chance to puke right alongside its possessed subject. It was so effective that even the horror-shunning Oscars couldn’t ignore it, nominating it for 10 awards (including Best Picture) and giving it two: Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound. It’s not just the best American horror movie, but the American horror movie that showed us what horror could be.
Friedkin directed consistently in the years following his one-two punch of The French Connection and The Exorcist, turning out movies that were appreciated in their time (like the neo-noir To Live and Die in L.A.) or have since been reassessed (like the Tangerine Dream-scored thriller Sorcerer). He popped back onto TV, helming episodes of The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt, and CSI. A late career partnership with playwright Tracy Letts returned him to the critical eye on the big screen, as Bug and Killer Joe both spoke to Friedkin’s boundary-pushing sensibilities.
Some of this sensibility is laid bare in his hilarious, sometimes startling, and always blunt memoir, The Friedkin Connection. More is found in the countless films trying and failing to mimic his style.
His final film, the courtroom play adaptation The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, will premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which awarded him the Special Lion in 2013 for his body of work.
Friedkin is survived by his wife, Sherry Lansing, and two sons.
Despite the cancellation of the summer Television Critics Association tour and awards ceremony in the midst of both the writers’ and actors’ strikes, the winners of the annual TCA Awards, which were voted on by the TCA’s membership of over 200 TV journalists, were announced online today.
In a potentially unsurprising turn, critical darling Succession has taken home the top prize for Program of the Year for its fourth and final season, as well as won its third title in the Outstanding Achievement in Drama category. Other big winners include FX’s The Bear, which walked away with both Outstanding New Program as well as Outstanding Achievement in Comedy. Individual awards were given to favorite Rhea Seehorn for her work in Better Call Saul‘s final season, as well as Natasha Lyonne for her performance in Peacock’s Poker Face.
Despite the Emmys’ indefinite delay, the winners from the TCA Awards could be indicative of what we see whenever TV’s biggest night actually airs. For example, HBO’s The Last of Us received five nominations here but went home empty-handed, overshadowed by Succession in two major categories. Only time will tell just how predictive these winners will be when the Emmys airs in November of this year—or potentially even later.
Melanie McFarland, TCA President and Critic for Salon said this of the awards and winners: “This was a landmark year for television, as we said goodbye to several powerhouse series while welcoming a new generation of shows and stars into this highly competitive landscape. Whether established hits or first-year favorites, our honorees exemplify the strength of television and the unique depth that it allows creators to explore. Though we are unable to gather in 2023, we sincerely congratulate each of this season’s winners, and we hope to celebrate in-person in 2024.”

Australian singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett has released a cover of Chastity Belt’s drearily gorgeous “Different Now,” imbuing the ruminative track with her distinct croon and a lighter, breezy guitar hook. Distinctive voice and frequent collaborator Kurt Vile joins her on the other side of a split 7″ single series, a series of covers dedicated to Chastity Belt. The vinyl is out October 27 via Suicide Squeeze.
“This song is so special to me. I remember when the album came out and I listened to ‘different now’ over and over, I thought they were singing directly to me. It’s a perfect piece of songwriting, I showed it to Kurt and he would always sing it to me on tour,” Barnett explains.

New Orleans songwriting duo Ross Farbe and Ray Micarelli—who perform together as Video Age—have unveiled the title track from their forthcoming new album Away From The Castle, out October 27 via Winspear. “Away From The Castle” is not just the record’s perfect first offering; it’s a buoyant, dreamy rock cut with country inflections, as Farbe and Micarelli’s chemistry accumulates into a grand swell of infectious power pop that has infinite replay value. There’s a timelessness wrapped around the heart of “Away From The Castle,” a catchiness that fashions the melody into a mountainous, organic earworm of cosmic proportions. The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Leo Rauf and edited and colored by Greg Sheppard.
Farbe says of “Away From The Castle”: “I’ve always had a hard time focusing. I get overstimulated to the point where I can’t complete a thought. Sometimes I want to freaking unplug and drop-out. But I’m not trying to go full isolation mode. I’m just trying to get better at making quiet moments for myself. Reflect and re-charge, maybe work on make believe. ‘I’m away from the castle right now, leave me a message and I’ll hit you back later.’”

Laurel Halo has unveiled the title track from her forthcoming LP Atlas, out September 22 via her own Awe label. Following lead single “Belleville,” a wavering piano piece, “Atlas” is an indulgent, seven-minute track of psychedelic ambient. The piece is instrumental, full of negative space and groaning, buzzing strings. As it unfurls, “Atlas” blossoms into rumbling electric piano sprawls and sparse, emotive violin. The whole track feels like the background music to a quiet revelation, the emergence into a meditative liminal space.

The usually peaceful city of Greeley, Colorado, was forced to witness a horrifying homicide when Heather Garraus was murdered in cold blood as she left her place of work. Surprisingly, the killer was dressed in a black robe and was hiding their face with a grim reaper mask. NBC News’ ‘Dateline: Internal Affairs’ chronicles the brutal murder and shows how through efficient police investigation, law enforcement officers were to bring the perpetrator to justice. Let’s delve into the details surrounding the crime and find out more, shall we?
How Did Heather Garraus Die?
At the time of her murder, Heather Garraus was 37-years-old and happily married to Ignacio Garraus, a police officer in the Greeley Police Department. People who knew her described her as a wonderful and kind individual who welcomed everyone with a smile and was always ready to extend a helping hand. Besides, she was highly dedicated to her husband and their relationship meant the world to Heather. Incidentally, Heather also worked at the Colorado State Employees Credit Union in Greeley, and co-workers couldn’t help but praise her diligence.

The day of January 23, 2007, was a normal one at the Garraus household as Heather left for work as scheduled. However, once she clocked out and was about to return home, a dark figure approached her in the parking lot. Eyewitnesses present on the scene mentioned that the figure was dressed in a dark robe and had a Grim Reaper mask on their face to conceal their identity completely. Once the mystery attacker reached Heather, they ordered her to go down on her knees and began shooting incessantly at close range.
Multiple bullets hit the kneeling woman, who immediately collapsed on the ground while the assailant made a quick escape. By the time first responders arrived at the murder scene, Heather was lying in a pool of blood on the ground. An initial examination determined that she was dead, while an autopsy later confirmed that the Colorado State Employees Credit Union employee had died of multiple bullet wounds. However, from the looks of it, the cops seemingly had an immediate breakthrough as there were several eyewitnesses to the murder.
Who Killed Heather Garraus?
When the police began investigating Heather’s death, they turned to the eyewitnesses who were present on the scene and recorded their accounts. According to the witnesses, the assailant who attacked Heather spoke in a woman’s voice and even blamed the victim for ruining her life. Moreover, the people who saw the murder also claimed that the killer showed no compassion, and it seemed like a personal attack. However, unable to get an idea about possible suspects, authorities interviewed Heather’s co-workers, who gave the police their first breakthrough.
A few co-workers mentioned that although Heather was a wonderful person, a woman named Shawna Nelson had a massive grudge against her. According to the show, Shawna was married to Ken Nelson, a Weld County sheriff’s deputy, but also had an affair with Heather’s husband, Ignacio, for several years. In fact, the show also stated that Shawna and Ignacio’s affair led to a child, and the former wanted him to divorce his wife and move in with her. However, Ignacio soon realized his mistake, and apart from breaking up with Shawna, even gave up his parental rights.
The incident angered Shawna greatly, and authorities discovered that she had been sending threatening messages to Ignacio and Heather for quite some time. When the police initially approached Shawna, she insisted on her innocence and denied being involved in Heather’s murder. However, refusing to give up, officers arrested her best friend, Michelle Moore, who came clean after being charged with being an accessory after the fact and admitted that Shawna was responsible for murdering Heather.
Interestingly, Shawna was arrested on the same day as Heather’s murder, and the police found her driving her husband’s truck. The same tire pattern was found near the crime scene, while the police also recovered a pair of shoes from the same area, which had gunshot residue and Shawna’s DNA on it. Moreover, officers also found a Grim Reaper mask in the truck the accused was driving, further strengthening their case.
Therefore, Shawna was arrested and charged with murder. When produced in court, Shawna maintained her innocence but was soon convicted of first-degree murder. As a result, she was sentenced to life in prison in 2008 and still remains behind bars at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in Denver, Colorado.
Chicago folk-rock band Whitney have kept busy after their 2022 album SPARK, releasing “For a While”—a live staple written around the time their debut album, Light Upon the Lake was made—earlier this spring. Now, they’re tapping into the vault from their 2019 album Forever Turned Around with “Kansas.” The song’s instrumental combines patterns from two already released songs: “Used To Be Lonely” and “FTA.” “Tunnel vision suddenly swaying, oh baby,” vocalist Julien Ehrlich sings. “And the feeling comes and goes, like the wind blows over my shoulders.” It’s a lovely, serene slice of finger-picked guitar and heavenly, atmospheric undertones, as Ehrlich’s falsetto floats gently above it all.
Though “Kansas” never made it onto the final cut of Forever Turned Around, Ehrlich and guitarist Max Kakacek put the track into some of their 2022 tour sets—and the audience response quickly turned it into a show centerpiece. In the same light as “For a While,” the duo opted to record it—this time, as the song was initially supposed to be presented four years ago.
When Ignacio Garraus started an extra-marital affair with Shawna Nelson, he had no idea that it would lead to the death of his wife, Heather. However, when Ignacio decided to end things and return to his wife, Shawna took it personally and murdered Heather Garraus in cold blood. NBC News’ ‘Dateline: Internal Affairs’ chronicles the gruesome murder and shows how the police ultimately honed in on the perpetrator. Hence if you are interested in this case and want to know where Shawna is at present, we have you covered.
Who Is Shawna Nelson?
At the time of Heather’s murder, Shawna Nelson was married to Ken Nelson, and the couple shared two children. To the outside eye, Shawna’s marriage was perfect, as her husband, Ken Nelson, worked as a Weld County sheriff’s deputy while she stayed home taking care of the kids. Moreover, they were also pretty comfortable financially, and neighbors had no idea about the problems that were creeping up behind closed doors. As fate would have it, Shawna was bored in her marriage with Ken and soon came across Ignacio Garraus, a police officer in the Greeley Police Department.

Although Ignacio was married to Heather Garraus, he and Shawna soon got quite close and started an extra-marital affair. Initially, the affair was kept hidden from Shawna and Ignacio’s family members, but with Shawna getting pregnant, it was hard to keep the secret under wraps. That was when Heather got to know of her husband’s infidelity, although she was ready to forgive his actions. On the other hand, Shawna wanted Ignacio to leave his wife and move in with her.
Placed between a rock and a hard place, Ignacio finally decided to go back to his wife. Hence, he broke up with Shawna and even gave up his parental rights to their child. Naturally, this made Shawna livid, who immediately began plotting revenge. She started by sending threatening messages to Ignacio and Heather but soon decided to take things to the extreme. Thus, on January 23, 2007, she dressed up in a black hood, hid her face behind a grim reaper mask, and drove her husband’s vehicle to Heather’s workplace.
Once at the location, she ambushed Heather in the parking lot, forced her to get on her knees, and shot her to death. Although Shawna escaped the scene before the police arrived, Heather’s co-workers informed authorities about Ignacio’s affair and how Shawna had been threatening Heather for a long time. Based on that information, the police began searching for Shawna and soon found her driving her husband’s vehicle.
Interestingly, she was still dressed in black, and apart from a grim reaper mask being present in the truck, the police noted that the same tire pattern was located near the crime scene. Moreover, authorities also found a pair of shoes near Heather’s body, which contained gunshot residue as well as Shawna’s DNA. Hence, with a mountain of evidence against her, Shawna was arrested and charged with Heather’s murder.
Where Is Shawna Nelson Now?
When presented in court, Shawna insisted on her innocence and denied her involvement in the murder. Moreover, even though her friend, Michelle Moore, testified in the murder trial, Shawna claimed that Michelle was lying as she was previously romantically involved with her and was taking revenge after a breakup. Nevertheless, the jury eventually found Shawna guilty and convicted her of first-degree murder. As a result, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 2008. Thus, to this very day, Shawna remains behind bars at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in Denver, Colorado.

When Heather Garraus was shot to death on January 23, 2007, it left the residents of Greeley, Colorado, petrified. However, little did people realize that her husband, Ignacio Garraus’ extra-marital affair with Shawna Nelson, acted as a catalyst for the slaying. NBC News’ ‘Dateline: Internal Affairs’ chronicles the gruesome incident and shows how the investigation ultimately led to Shawna Nelson. However, if you are intrigued by this case and want to find out where Ignacio Garraus is at present, we have you covered.
Who Is Ignacio Garraus?
From the looks of it, Ignacio Garraus had a perfect life. He was earning well as a police officer in the Greeley Police Department and was happily married to Heather Garraus. In fact, the couple even had a small daughter, and people who knew them claimed that the family was happy and contented. Even Heather worked at the Colorado State Employees Credit Union in Greeley, and their daughter, Victoria, shared a close bond with both. According to the show, Ignacio got acquainted with a woman named Shawna Nelson and started an extra-marital affair with her.

Incidentally, Shawna was married to Ken Nelson, a Weld County sheriff’s deputy, but was seemingly bored with her marital life. However, things got pretty serious when the extra-marital affair led to a baby, and Shawna asked Ignacio to leave his wife and move in with her. Moreover, around that time, Heather got to know of the affair, and although she was pretty hurt by it, she was ready to forgive her husband. Thus, Ignacio took matters into his own hand, broke up with Shawna, and even gave up his parental rights to the baby.
Naturally, this enraged Shawna, who plotted revenge and was determined to make Ignacio pay. Subsequently, she started sending threatening messages to the Garrauses, and while it was annoying, Ignacio and Heather chose to ignore the warning signs. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a massive mistake as Shawna finally took matters into her own hands and made up her mind to kill Heather. Thus, on January 23, 2007, she dressed up in black, wore a grim reaper mask, and drove her husband’s vehicle to Heather’s workplace.
Once Heather walked into the parking lot, Shawna, still in disguise, forced her to her knees and shot her dead in cold blood. Incidentally, although Shawna quickly made an escape, the murder was witnessed by several eye-witnesses who immediately called the police. When authorities reached the scene, they declared Heather dead and ascertained that she had died from gunshot wounds. Moreover, her co-workers immediately informed the police about Ignacio’s affair and alleged that Shawna was the only one capable of killing Heather.
The witness statement led to an immediate manhunt for Shawna, who was found driving her husband’s vehicle. Although the accused insisted on her innocence, the police found her dressed all in black, while a grim reaper mask was recovered from the truck. Moreover, authorities also noted that a tire pattern near the murder scene matched Shawna’s vehicle, while her DNA, as well as gunshot residue, were found on a pair of shoes lying near Heather.
Where Is Ignacio Garraus Now?
When produced in court, Shawna was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2008. However, Ignacio seemed quite remorseful about the whole incident and kept blaming himself for Heather’s murder. In fact, during an interview with NBC, Ignacio spoke about his guilt and said, “I loathe [myself]. And I got to hide it so my kid doesn’t see how bad I loathe myself. Because a beautiful woman’s dead for me having an affair, the chain of events that I had no way of foreseeing. But ultimately, if I never had an affair, Heather would be alive. It’s on me.”
Once Shawna’s murder trial ended, Ignacio resigned from the police force and moved out of Greeley with his daughter. They supposedly moved to Florida, although he lost his daughter in a tragic car accident on March 13, 2015. Nevertheless, from the looks of it, Ignacio still resides in Florida and is gradually recovering from the demons of his past.
Netflix’s ‘The Lørenskog Disappearance’ is a true-crime drama that focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a billionaire’s wife. Told from the perspective of different people trying to solve the crime, with each trying to get to the bottom of the truth in their own way, we see how different perspectives approach a case and what it means for the victim as well as the accused. While navigating the audience through all the details that make this such an interesting case, the show underlines the human aspect of the story, giving more fleshed-out backstories to the investigators. It is this approach to storytelling that keeps the audience hooked and gives more weight to the ending. Here we break down the conclusion of the series and analyze what it means for the Hagen case. SPOILERS AHEAD
The Lørenskog Disappearance Plot Synopsis
On October 31, 2018, Tom Hagen comes home to find out that his wife has been kidnapped. A ransom note has been left, demanding millions of dollars in exchange for the safe return of his wife. The note also warns him not to get the police or the media involved, because it would put pressure on the kidnappers which would force their hand into doing something drastic to Hagen’s wife. Despite the warnings, Hagen approaches the cops, though covertly, and pleads them to not go public with their investigation. The cops decide to keep the case a secret, but not for long.
Trying to solve a case while hiding from the perpetrators proves a difficult thing for the police, who find that their efforts are impeded on several levels. Moreover, the kidnappers don’t seem to be too eager to negotiate for the money, and as time passes, the lack of Hagen’s wife’s proof of life convinces the cops that she might not be alive. Weeks later, they decide to take the case public, hoping to find some breakthrough in the leads that the publicity might bring to them. However, it only attracts Internet’s amateur detectives to come up with their own theories, and a legion of scammers trying to make hay while the sun shines.
Eventually, the cops come to the conclusion that they have to explore other avenues regarding the disappearance, which means that they have to start looking into the most common suspect in such cases: the husband. As Tom Hagen comes under scrutiny, a media trial begins, splitting the journalists as well as the Internet sleuths into for and against sections, while the cops desperately try to build a case against Hagen.
The Lørenskog Disappearance Ending: Did Tom Hagen Kill His Wife?

According to the law, a person is innocent until proven guilty, and because no concrete proof of Tom Hagen’s guilt is brought forward by the police, Hagen remains innocent of the crime that was perpetrated against his wife. In the second half of the show, we find the cops examining each and everything about the case, especially the things that Hagen had told them, under the light of his guilt. What looked like a cooperative action from his end, in the beginning, starts to look like a well-thought-out manipulation to throw the cops off his trail. The more the cops dig into the case and Hagen’s personal life, the more details start to come out, though all of them are too vague to actually build a case against him.
Finally, an informant comes forward with a piece of information that paves a new path for the investigation. Because Hagen had always had a well-backed alibi, the cops suspected that he must have received help from someone, though they couldn’t figure out who it could have been. Eventually, the name of a few criminals pops up. It is alleged that Hagen had, at one point, employed the services of an escort named Astoria. Unbeknownst to him, she’d been involved in a racket that aimed to extort money from rich people like him. This brings in the name of a man called Peter Wam, which further leads the cops to Edon Imani and the Kirap gang.
Though it looks like their informant is telling the truth, the cops need at least one of the criminals to be connected to Hagen to build their case. They try to arrest Peter Wam, but because he’s in Spain, it is easier for him to slip out of their grasp, and he succeeds in flying away to Dubai. With him gone, the cops can’t move forward with their investigation into Imani and Kirap, which means that their case has come to a dead end. On top of that, their informant dies by suicide in prison, which is not only a huge moral letdown but also robs the cops of any grounds they might have had to continue looking into the criminals.
In the end, Jorunn Lakke becomes disillusioned with the case. Considering how long they’d been working at it, it looks like they were not able to bring it to any conclusive point. Meanwhile, Hagen gives an interview to put forward his point of view of the events and his feelings about the cops trying to pin the blame on him. Lakke’s father recognizes Hagen as his old classmate, saying that he was introverted but a good person. When he asks whether Hagen has done something bad, Lakke admits that she has no idea. This means that even if she believes that Hagen really killed his wife, she has no way to prove it, and hence, it will not factually stand in the court of law.
Was Anne-Elisabeth Hagen Found?
What makes disappearance cases so hard to solve is the lack of very potent evidence: the dead body. The manner of death can tell a lot of things about a crime, and because Anne-Elisabeth was never found, the mystery of what happened to her remains just that, a mystery. After the next-to-no communication with the kidnappers, the cops have little doubt about the fact that Anne-Elisabeth is dead by now. Even if they’d kept her alive in the beginning, all the time that has passed since then makes it rather improbable for the kidnappers to keep her in captivity for so long, especially when they never received the money that they’d demanded in the beginning. While all signs point toward her death, the cops can’t help but acknowledge that there is no proof of death just as there is no proof of life.
Anne-Elisabeth disappeared in October 2018, and over the years, the investigation into her case has not led to anything concrete. There have been theories and speculations all over the Internet, with some believing that her husband killed her to others postulating that she ran away to escape the marriage that she wanted out of. The cops also explored the angle of Tom Hagen’s association with some criminals whom he allegedly paid to get the job done, but haven’t found anything that actually proves it. So, all that they have, at this point, is purely circumstantial, good enough for speculation but not for the law. Even now, as the case of Anne-Elisabeth Hagen remains open, there has been no conclusive evidence to any end that can answer what really happened to her.
