    Allison Russell Releases «Snakelife»

    [ad_1]

Canadian singer/songwriter, poet and activist Allison Russell has released the latest single from her forthcoming LP The Returner, out September 8 via Fantasy Records. “Snakelife” is triumphant and evocative, an evolutionary journey of grief and love. The song is an advocacy effort in and of itself: Russell describes it as “an invocation of the Afro-Future-Rainbow-Coalition-Transformative Universe I wish to inhabit and foster.”

“Snakelife” slithers into bloom through moments of tension and grace, a battle hymn interwoven with pain and devotion. Orchestral strings and rhythmic vocals evoke a summoning, an invocation, of the world Russell creates with her words.

  • Is Heartbreak High (2022) a Reboot or a Sequel of the Original Show?

Is Heartbreak High (2022) a Reboot or a Sequel of the Original Show?

    [ad_1]

‘Heartbreak High’ is a Netflix teen drama series. The show revolves around the students of Hartley High and their struggles. Amerie (Ayesha Madon) is a student hailing from a working-class background. Her scandalous mural depicting the secret hook-ups of various students turns her into a pariah at school. With the help of outsiders Quinni and Darren, Amerie sets out to fix her reputation and live the life of a normal teenager.

Created by Michael Jenkins and Ben Gannon, the original ‘Heartbreak High’ aired on Network Ten between 1994 and 1996 and on ABC TV between 1997 and 1999. It is the spin-off of the 1993 Australian feature film ‘The Heartbreak Kid,’ which itself is based on the 1987 stage play of the same name. If you are wondering whether ‘Heartbreak High’ is a reboot or sequel of the original series, we got you covered.

Is Heartbreak High (2022) a reboot or Sequel?

Netflix’s 2022 series ‘Heartbreak High’ is a reboot of the original show, not a sequel. Created by Hannah Carroll Chapman, Ben Gannon, and Michael Jenkins, the Netflix series takes place nearly three decades after the original show and uses the core narrative of the 1990s’ series to explore themes that are quintessentially 2022. The latter show doesn’t introduce newer versions of the characters from the original series. Instead, it has its own cast of characters.

Chapman told The Guardian in a September 2022 interview that she has been a fan of the original show since she was a teenager. “I was obsessed with the show when I was a teen; the opening credits music is still a dopamine hit for me,” she stated. “I [re]watched every single episode before we got into the plot room.”

According to executive producer Carly Heaton, the early meetings about the reboot reignited the passion of everyone involved for the 1990s show. “Of course the ‘rack off!’ compilation got sent around, and it ignited everyone sharing their feelings about [the show] and why it was so important,” she said. “It was that authenticity, I think. There was a level of aspiration – you know, they didn’t have uniforms, and they were cool – but their families looked like ours, their houses looked like ours, so it made us all feel really seen.”

In the efforts to modernize the 2022 series, mature themes were injected into the narrative. The Netflix show deals with consent, gender identity, sexual orientation, class exploitation, drug and alcohol abuse, and peer pressure. “[Heartbreak High] was groundbreaking for its time, so the team sat down and thought ‘What are the things that need to be discussed now?’” Heaton stated. “It [the class exploitation] is part of its essence, that lower-to-middle socio economic group; that’s where most of us grew up. We want aspiration, but in the same way Heartbreak did it; they’re cool, and you still want to be them, but there are people struggling, single parent families, people doing shift work. Often TV has portrayed that in terms of the struggle, and it can be very dark, but there’s love and hope in this. Just because you don’t have a lot of money doesn’t mean you don’t have a good life.”

For Chapman, this was an opportunity for her and her collaborators to give Generation Z their own version of ‘Heartbreak High,’ and the eight-episode Netflix series is definitely a success in that regard.

  • Where Are Kay and Larry Woodcock Today? Update

Where Are Kay and Larry Woodcock Today? Update

    [ad_1]

As a three-episode documentary series that delves deep into the case of Lori Vallow Daybell, Netflix’s ‘Sins of Our Mother’ can only be described as equal parts gripping, disturbing, and baffling. That’s because it charts not just her complex romance with Chad Guy Daybell but also her journey towards religious extremism, as well as the way it all combined could’ve allegedly driven them to murder. Yet, for now, if you wish to learn more about the loudest voices demanding pure justice in connection to this matter — Kay and Larry Woodcock — we’ve got the necessary details for you.

Who Are Kay and Larry Woodcock?

It was back in the mid-2000s that Kay and Larry first came across Lori (then Lori Cox Ryan) as she’d just begun a serious involvement with the former’s brother Leland “Charles” Anthony Vallow. They reportedly initially thought highly of Lori since she treated her partner well despite their 17-year age gap and was even a dedicated mother to her two young children from previous unions. So they asked the relatively young married couple (in 2013) if they’d adopt their own grandnephew (Kay and Larry’s grandson) owing to the care he needed due to his autism diagnosis, and they happily agreed.

Lori’s brood thus became Colby Jordan Ryan, Tylee Ashlyn Ryan, and Joshua Jaxon “JJ” Vallow; Charles also had two biological sons from his prior marriage, but they seemingly shared custody. Everything honestly appeared to be great for the family, that is, until 2019 rolled around. The year saw the couple’s separation, Charles’ death, and ultimately Tylee as well as JJ’s disappearance. Kay and Larry were actually the first to notice the two kids were missing upon being unable to get in touch with JJ since August, driving them to contact the authorities for a welfare check.

Unfortunately, the welfare check quickly turned into two missing person’s cases, which then spiraled into a hunt for the minors, along with Lori and Chad, for some much-needed answers. The grandparents even offered an extensive $20,000 reward to anyone with reliable, concrete information regarding the 16-year-old and/or the 7-year-old’s whereabouts, but to no avail. They did think Lori could be keeping the kids away merely because Charles had removed her to make Kay the sole beneficiary of his $1 million life insurance policy, but they never imagined the kids would be dead.

Where Are Kay and Larry Woodcock Today?

“Did we suspect that [Lori and Chad] may have put them in a cult someplace, or kept them off the grid to hide them? Absolutely,” Larry admitted to People back in 2020. “But did we believe that they would harm those kids? No way. I still cannot fathom what they did to this day. I wake up at times and I am so angry at what they’ve done.” On the other hand, Kay can’t believe she once loved and trusted Lori enough to pass her an innocent life, which causes her such a deep, emotional pain she can’t even bring herself to let it go.

The couple now genuinely just wants to understand why. From what we can tell, Kay and Larry reside in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the moment. Yet, they’re determined to make every court hearing [in Idaho] to represent Tylee, JJ, Charles, and anyone else the couple may have ever allegedly hurt. We should mention Larry believes Lori “played the system” by making herself seem incompetent to stand trial, so he’s glad she has finally been ruled fit, and he can’t wait to face her in court.

“At some point in time, she’s going to look at us,” Larry said. “She’s going to have to because I am not going to give her one inch. I’m going to be right there behind her, just like I did with Chad [during his preliminary hearing].” Kay added that they want Lori to “feel us breathing down her neck.”

  • Rockstar Games Buys CFX.re, Developers of Popular GTA Roleplaying Mods

Rockstar Games Buys CFX.re, Developers of Popular GTA Roleplaying Mods

    [ad_1]

Rockstar Games has—in a surprising move that also makes tons of sense—purchased CFX.re, a team that has enabled the continued success of both Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption through the development of mod tools and maintaining roleplaying communities in either game’s online component.

Rockstar’s statement reads, “Today, we are proud to announce that Cfx.re — the team behind the biggest Rockstar roleplay and creator communities, FiveM and RedM — are now officially a part of Rockstar Games.”

If you’ve been around the block at all in the last several years, or just been on Twitch, you’ve probably seen the resurgence of Grand Theft Auto V, especially since the early stretches of the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s largely because a) Grand Theft Auto will likely endure the heat death of the universe and outlive us all as a record of what humanity got up to and b) the development of roleplaying mods from CFX.re. These mods further expanded on the simulated reality Rockstar released nearly 10 years ago, allowing players to essentially participate in a fleshed out and functioning society. You can be a common citizen with some kind of day job or engage in a more typical game of literal cops and robbers as an actual career criminal or enforcer.

Though GTA Online has helped keep the game in the hearts, minds and wallets of many players for most of the last decade, roleplaying servers have supplanted typical online play in GTA for many players in the last few years. Many famous streamers, including figures like HasanAbi, have taken to GTA roleplaying communities like FiveM and RedM, helping popularize the alternative method of play. According to Rockstar, “Over the past few years, we’ve watched with excitement as Rockstar’s creative community have found new ways to expand the possibilities of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, particularly through the creation of dedicated roleplay servers.”

The statement goes on to mention that Rockstar has recently expanded its own policy about mods in order to specifically allow more of them from the roleplaying community, presumably with more ease than ever. Now that CFX.re is officially part of Rockstar Games, it isn’t hard to imagine elements of those roleplaying mods finding some home as official features in future releases, potentially even the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6.

In the meantime, I can see Rockstar’s cosign signaling to players that otherwise haven’t partaken that they should dip their toes into roleplaying in Los Santos and the Wild West. Expect to see an uptick in roleplaying servers while we wait and see how this gets legitimized and brought in-house over the next several years and releases.

  • Where was Pearl Filmed? 2022 Movie Filming Locations

Where was Pearl Filmed? 2022 Movie Filming Locations

    [ad_1]

A prequel to ‘X,’ ‘Pearl’ (also known as ‘Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story’) is a slasher thriller movie co-written and directed by Ti West that serves as an origin story for the murderous character of Pearl. Set in the late 1910s during World War I, the narrative revolves around the beginning of her violent tendencies and portrays how the infamous cabin where the massacre in ‘X’ occurs was used as a boarding house. Pearl finds herself trapped in her family’s barn, where she is responsible for tending to her ailing father under her mother’s watch.

However, the girl’s lust for having a glamorous life makes her realize her true ambitious and violent nature. ‘Pearl’ connects many dots for the original movie’s fans while keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats through its gory and thrilling narrative. Moreover, the familiar backdrop of the barn and house will make you question if the prequel was shot in the same locations as ‘X.’ Well, in that case, we have the answers to your questions!

    Pearl Filming Locations

‘Pearl’ was filmed in New Zealand, specifically in Whanganui and Wellington. The principal photography for the slasher movie took place in secret, right after the production of ‘X’ concluded, seemingly in May 2021. Just like the original iteration, ‘Pearl’ is also set in Texas but is entirely shot in New Zealand.

In a March 2022 interview with IndieWire, Ti West revealed how the filming unit taped two movies back to back. He said, “I came out of quarantine, and I was like, ‘We’re already building all of this stuff, it’s COVID, and we’re on the one place on Earth where it’s safe to make a movie. We have the whole crew from ‘Avatar 2’ who’s on break. We should make two movies.’” Now, let us take you to all the specific locations where the prequel was shot!

    Whanganui District, New Zealand

Many pivotal sequences for ‘Pearl’ were lensed on location in Whanganui District, comprising the eponymous city and surrounding areas. The cast and crew set up camp in and around the familiar property, Lambhill Homestead, in the rural community of Fordell to shoot several scenes featuring the house and barn. Besides that, they utilized the premises of the Royal Whanganui Opera House at 69 Street Hill Street in Whanganui. In addition, Victoria Avenue and Ridgway Street served as important filming sites for exterior shots.

    Wellington, New Zealand

Much like its prequel, additional portions of ‘Pearl’ were recorded in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city. Situated at the southwestern tip of the North Island, it is often referred to as the nation’s cultural capital due to its diversity. Apart from ‘Pearl’ and ‘X,’ the city has served as a pivotal production location for several movies and TV shows, such as ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ ‘Avatar,’ ‘What We Do in the Shadows,’ ‘Spartacus,’ and ‘The Tribe.’

    Coach Party Release «Parasite»

    [ad_1]

English alt-punk band Coach Party have released the latest single off their forthcoming debut LP KILLJOY, out September 8 via Chess Club Records. Unapologetically screeching, gnashing and wild, the track is an exorcism of the “Parasite” in question. Less than two minutes long and full to the brim with erupting sound, “Parasite” feels gloriously furious at its own infectious melody.

“Everyone has those people in their lives that they’ll do anything to avoid. If you don’t, you might be one of those people, and this song is for you: the parasite in human form, whose sole purpose on this earth is to drain the energy, creativity and enthusiasm of generous people. When you see their name flash up on your phone, you genuinely consider eating it. As what is arguably our most heavy track on KILLJOY, the pace and sonics are a direct reflection of how irritating and soul-destroying these parasites are,” Drummer Guy Page notes of the song.

Rodriguez, the Musician at the Center of Searching for Sugar Man, Dies at 81

    [ad_1]

Rodriguez died last night at age 81 after suffering from a stroke back in February. Born Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, the Detroit singer/songwriter faded from public view after releasing two albums in the 1970s. But his music found an audience in Australia, New Zealand and southern parts of Africa unbeknownst to him. He bought a run-down house in Detroit and became a political activist, working to help the city’s impoverished citizens.

Meanwhile a compilation of his music, At His Best went platinum in South Africa with his song “Sugar Man” covered by South African band Just Jinger and Scottish musician Paolo Nutini. But it was widely rumored Rodriguez had committed suicide during a concert in the 1970s. It wasn’t until his daughter came across a website devoted to him in 1997 that he became aware of his overseas success.

In 2012, Swedish filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul debuted his documentary Searching for Sugar Man about a pair of South African fans trying to track down their idol. The film won an Oscar in 2013 and Rodriguez finally found success in the U.S., performing on both Letterman and Leno.

  • SongWriter Season 5 Continues with Kevin Allison and Carolyn Kendrick

SongWriter Season 5 Continues with Kevin Allison and Carolyn Kendrick

    [ad_1]

SongWriter is a podcast that turns stories into songs, featuring Questlove, David Gilmour, Joyce Carol Oates, Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Susan Orlean, and Neil Gaiman. You can hear an exclusive preview of next week’s episode featuring Kevin Allison and Carolyn Kendrick only at Paste.

Kevin Allison was at a loss. After the implosion of the popular sketch comedy group he helped found, The State, he struggled to figure out what was next. Happily, some advice from his friend, Michael Ian Black, helped Kevin connect with his future.

“‘Man, I wish you would just drop the act,’” Kevin recalls Michael saying. “‘I felt like the audience would have responded much better if you had just come out as yourself, just sharing your own stories.”

At a friend’s storytelling night a few weeks later, Kevin did just that, and was amazed at the reaction. The more vulnerable and open Kevin was – about parts of his life that made him feel uncomfortable and even ashamed – the more the audience connected with his story. Stunned and thrilled, Kevin came up with the plan for his wildly popular podcast, RISK! as he walked home that night.

Millions of downloads later, Kevin tells a story he originally wrote for RISK! for the upcoming episode of SongWriter. In it, Kevin recounts how he met his future husband in the haunting and strangely beautiful days after 9/11. Kevin also describes how late in his life he came to dating and self-acceptance, and how he has been wrestling with a recently broken heart.

“If you have a broken heart, then you have an open heart,” Kevin says, paraphrasing a recent favorite quotation. “If you are feeling that much pain, then you can feel that much love.”

Songwriter Carolyn Kendrick is also a central figure in the podcast world, as she produces the popular podcasts “You’re Wrong About” and “You Are Good.” In fact, it was during a live podcast show in New York that Carolyn first met Kevin. One of the elements that stood out to Carolyn about Kevin’s story was its subtle-yet-central connection to 9/11. She was a child in 2001, but remembers her specific reaction well.

“When you’re in second grade, you’re very tooth-focussed because everyone is losing teeth,” Carolyn remembers. “I remember seeing the pictures of the skyline before and after, and I remember being like, it looks like someone knocked their tooth out.”

The song that Carolyn wrote in response to Kevin’s story, “What If,” is a gentle ballad about self-acceptance, longing, and the crippling uncertainty of young relationships. In the episode Carolyn describes meeting her own husband, and how starting that relationship was an act of faith and trust for both of them.

“I’m at the point in my life where I’m like, ‘Oh, what I want is actually what I need,’ so I can just listen to that,” Carolyn says. “Instead of denying myself in some way.”

  • Is Maciej Dead or Alive?

    Is Maciej Dead or Alive?

    [ad_1]

Netflix’s ‘Broad Peak’ is a Polish biographical drama movie directed by Leszek Dawid. It is based on actual events and tells the story of mountaineer Maciej Berbeka who becomes the first person to pass the 8,000 meters milestone during the winter in the Himalayan range. However, after realizing that his conquest of the titular peak is unfinished, Maciej returns to the site to complete his climb. Therefore, viewers must be wondering whether Maciej reaches the summit or fails in the process. If you are looking for answers about Maciej’s climb and fate in ‘Broad Peak,’ here is everything you need to know! SPOILERS AHEAD!

    Broad Peak Plot Synopsis

The film opens with Maciej’s narration as he describes his 1988 winter ascent with a team of Polish Himalayan climbers. The group set up camp at the base of his K2. However, months pass and extreme winds prevent the climbers from reaching the summit. One of his climbers, Alek Lwow, suggests that he and Maciej Berbeka should instead head to the neighboring peak in the Karakoram, known as Broad Peak. Maciej reluctantly agrees to join Lwow. Despite certain difficulties and complaints from the team, Lwow and Maciej convince the others.

Maciej and Lwow started climbing and got off to a decent start. However, they face extreme weather conditions and are forced to slow down. Lwow wants to turn back before things get worse, but Maciej continues climbing. Meanwhile, everyone at the base camp waits for a reply from Maciej on the comm. Eventually, Maciej responds to them and reveals they’ve reached the top.

Soon, the news of Maciej’s successful climb reaches his homeland and makes him a national hero in Poland. His wife, Ewa, is happy at her husband’s achievement but more relieved to see him alive. Maciej begins his descent which proves to be a tougher challenge for Maciej as he is exhausted. He gets stuck in one place for over 16 hours and is forced to sleep in a hole during heavy winds. After gathering energy to continue his descent, Maciej eventually reunites with Lwow. The expedition’s leader, Andrei, sends help, making the descent easier for Maciej and Lwow.

After his successful climb and return from Broad Peak, Maciej celebrates with family and friends. However, Maciej starts feeling uneasy when asked about his time on the expedition of Broad Peak. Three months after the journey, Lwow publishes an article revealing that Maciej never actually reached the summit but reached Rocky’s Summit, also known as the Pre-Summit. As a result, Maciej feels like a fraud but abandons future pursuits of Broad Peak for the sake of his family.

Broad Peak Ending: Does Maciej Reach the Summit of Broad Peak? Is Maciej Dead?

After Maciej learns that hell fell short of Broad Peak’s summit by merely 17 meters, he is devastated. He is frustrated at his colleagues and refuses to go on further expeditions with them. He promises his wife that he will no longer undertake dangerous trips. However, Maciej continues to harbor a desire to turn his failure into success. Moreover, Maciej becomes a mountain guide and continues his mountain climbing activities. Years later, he is presented with an opportunity to reclimb Broad Peak, and Maciej agrees to return and finish what he started years ago.

Maciej teams up with three young climbers, Artur, Tomasz, and Adam. The trio works under Maciej’s leadership and plans their climb atop Broad Peak. Maciej’s experience dealing with the harsh weather conditions on the peak comes in handy as the ascent starts easy for the group. However, the weather and difficult final portion of the climb poses a challenge for the climbers, who are forced to slow down. Nonetheless, Maciej and his group overcome all the obstacles in their path and reach the summit. It is a triumphant moment for Maciej, whose years-old failure is undone, and he finally succeeds in his quest to conquer Broad Peak.

The film’s final moments depict Maciej enjoying the view from Broad Peak’s summit. After years of hard work, his conquest finally concludes, and Maciej can let go of the past. However, after Maciej’s moment of victory, the screen cuts to black, and viewers see a text revealing that Maciej and Tomasz perished during their descent. Archive audio confirms the same and reveals the duo’s final interaction with the base camp. Hence, although Maciej’s death is not shown on screen, the movie ends with his death. However, his off-screen death allows viewers to savor the feeling of Maciej’s achievement, ending the film on a high note.

Why Did Maciej’s Colleagues Hide the Truth From Him?

The movie depicts that Maciej struggles to reach the top during his first conquest of Broad Peak and is falsely told that he has reached the summit. However, Maciej is devastated to learn the truth and is frustrated at his colleagues’ betrayal. Maciej’s colleagues hide the fact that he did not reach the summit. However, the reason behind their actions isn’t explicitly stated. Nonetheless, the answer lies within Maciej’s first conquest of Broad Peak.

After his difficult descent, it becomes evident that Maciej’s life is under threat, and the difficult climb has taken a toll on his health. During a radio conversation with the base camp, it is stated that the bad weather will make it difficult for him to survive the descent. Hence, Maciej’s colleagues hide the truth from him to fast-track his journey downward. As a result, the lie saves Maciej’s life. Ultimately, Maciej’s death at the end echoes his first trip. Had Maciej reached the summit in the first attempt, he might have died. As a result, his death, shortly after reaching the top, makes the affair far from tragic.

  • Robbie Robertson Passes Away at 80

Robbie Robertson Passes Away at 80

    [ad_1]

This afternoon, it was reported that Robbie Robertson, the guitarist best known for his work as a founding member of The Band, has passed away at the age of 80. Robertson, along with Garth Hudson, was one of the last remaining members of the legendary rock outfit and backing band of Ronnie Hawkins and, later, Bob Dylan. His death was preceded by Richard Manuel in 1986, Rick Danko in 1999 and Levon Helm in 2012.

After getting his start in Ronnie Hawkins’ backing band The Hawks, Robertson became a credited songwriter on big Band tracks like “The Weight,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Up on Cripple Creek” and “The Shape I’m In.” Some of his best guitar work came on Dylan’s “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” and the Band’s “King Harvest (Has Surely Come)” and “To Kingdom Come.” Robertson would go on to achieve a successful solo career after the Band’s disintegration in 1977, releasing Top-40 hits like “Showdown at Big Sky,” “Somewhere Down the Crazy River,” “Go Back to your Woods” and “What About Now” in the 1980s and ’90s.

Robertson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 with Danko, Helm, Hudson and Manuel, and he is also a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Alongside a prolific performing career, he collaborated with Martin Scorsese on film soundtracks for some of the director’s greatest works, including Raging Bull, Casino, The Departed and, most-recently, The Irishman in 2019.

After a 60-plus-year career, Robbie Robertson will be greatly missed by music fans across the world, but his imprint on rock ‘n’ roll shall endure as undeniable, essential and irreplaceable—and his music will reach many lifetimes beyond this one.

Where is Lori Vallow’s Ex Sister-in-Law Today? Update

    [ad_1]

There was once a time when Lori Vallow was considered a kind, caring, and devoted mother of three, yet her religious extremism genuinely turned everything around starting in the late 2010s. That’s because not only did she veer towards the dark path of apocalyptic paranoia alongside Chad Guy Daybell, but she also allegedly murdered two of her young children owing to the same. So since Netflix’s ‘Sins of Our Mother’ has now explored this case from each angle, let’s find out more about Annie Cushing — one of the many individuals fighting for justice against her — shall we?

    Who is Annie Cushing?

It was back in 2002 that Annie met Lori for the first time after the latter had tied the knot with her brother Joseph “Joe” Ryan (in 2001), just for them to quickly develop a deep, sisterly connection. She thus did notice Lori had this innate “inclination to super-spiritualize everything,” yet felt no need to comment on it initially because it didn’t seem seriously radical in any way, shape, or form. Moreover, per the docuseries, Annie wanted her to grab the kids — Colby Ryan from a prior union and their biological daughter Tylee Ryan — and leave Joe for good upon learning he was abusive.

Annie hence managed to maintain a close bond with her former sister-in-law, especially through her niece and step-nephews, even once she married Charles Vallow following the 2005 divorce. However, she witnessed a much different side to her when she made her way over to personally connect with Tylee after Joe’s 2018 passing, leaving her heartbroken as well as frustrated. Lori had not just discouraged Tylee from grieving her father but also appeared obsessed with end-of-time ideas, which is why Annie texted her daughter, “I think Lolo [Lori] might be a sociopath.”

She continued in the text thread: “It was absolutely exhausting. I dealt with so many lies, even with little things. I think [Lori is] unhinged and untethered from truth.” Annie further added, “I just left exhausted from the constant campaigning [against Joe] and Lolo’s out-of-control ego. But I feel trapped. I connected with Tylee but don’t want anything to do with Lolo ever again.” Therefore, of course, when her niece, as well as Lori’s youngest JJ Vallow, disappeared around the fall of 2019, only to be found buried in Lori’s new spouse’s backyard months later, it shattered Annie’s heart.

    Where is Annie Cushing Now?

Annie did gain a sense of relief once Lori and her husband Chad Daybell were indicted on counts of murder in 2021, yet she conceded it also “felt heavy; just thinking about the senseless loss of life.” She thus made it clear she “wants to see the coconspirators’ feet held to the flames. I want everyone who aided Chad and Lori in these crimes to be held accountable and I want justice.” So the fact Lori has finally been deemed competent for trial (April 2022) following a year of mental health treatments makes her “ecstatic” as well — “Justice may have been delayed, but it has not been denied.”

Coming to her personal standing, from what we can tell, Annie currently resides in New York as a strong, independent, hard-working, as well as devoted family woman. The Florida State University graduate has actually made quite a name for herself in the world of tech and data, especially as her goal is to make “data sexy,” that is, make it perfectly coherent to help organizations grow. Hence, she presently serves as the Senior Marketing Analyst at her company Annielytics and has even published a comprehensive, visual book entitled ‘Making Data Sexy’ (2019). We should mention Annie hosts ‘A Murderous Heart’ podcast as well, where she takes a deep dive into her niece Tylee’s case with all factual experiences or data.

Now, she must put her divine powers to good use by harnessing them to avenge her sister’s death and protect her family and community from the perils surrounding them.

What makes the supernatural thriller series all the more enthralling are the impressive performances from a talented cast comprising Sthandile Nkosi, Nomalanga Nkosi, Bonko Khoza, and Gontse Ntshegang. Moreover, the mystical world and the village backdrop intrigue one to learn about the actual filming sites. If you are one such curious soul, you might be interested in what we have to share!

    The Brave Ones Filming Locations

‘The Brave Ones’ is filmed entirely in South Africa, reportedly in Johannesburg. The principal photography for season 1 likely took place in the summer of 2021 and wrapped up in October of the same year. Since the story is set in modern-day South Africa, it makes sense to utilize the locales of the same nation to shoot the series. Situated in southernmost Africa, South Africa is known to be the most populous country located entirely south of the equator. Now, without further ado, let us walk you through all the specific locations that appear in the Netflix show!

    Johannesburg, South Africa

Many pivotal sequences for ‘The Brave Ones’ are seemingly lensed in and around Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city. As per reports, the filming unit travels across the city to different suburbs to tape the scenes against suitable backdrops for the series. Also known as the City of Gold, Johannesburg is considered a megacity and comes under one of the 100 largest urban areas in the world.

Located in the eastern plateau area of South Africa, Highveld, Johannesburg is home to many specialist museums and galleries that encompass several subjects, including costumes, fossils, military history, Africana, design, and so on. Some popular ones are the Adler Museum of Medicine, the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the AECI Dynamite Factory Museum, the Origins Centre Museum, James Hall Transport Museum, and the South African National Museum of Military History.

Apart from tourists, several filmmakers frequent Joburg for shooting purposes. Over the years, the city has hosted the production of different movies and TV shows like ‘Dredd,’ ‘District 9,’ ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ and ‘The Looming Tower.’

  • Street Fighter 6 Ninja Turtle Costumes Cost as Much as the Game Itself

Street Fighter 6 Ninja Turtle Costumes Cost as Much as the Game Itself

    [ad_1]

In a move confusing and frustrating fans, Capcom is selling the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costumes in Street Fighter 6 for $15 each, coming out to a total of $60 for all four turtles, the same price as the actual game.

The TMNT characters, who were revealed for the game at EVO this year, are just costumes for the game’s customizable avatar, not fully playable characters. With each costume costing 750 of the in-game currency Fighter Coins, equivalent to about $15, they are more than twice as expensive as the actual feature-complete DLC fighter Rashid, who can be purchased for just 350 fighter coins.

The pricing for the skins has many fans online up in arms. One Twitter user in particular, @dyebre, pointed out the ridiculousness of the pricing in comparison to other TMNT-related products. As they noticed, one turtle costs more than a ticket to see the new movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (though this varies by theater and region), Rashid, and the DLC for Injustice 2 which adds all four turtles as unique playable characters for just about $10.

Some fans have had a bit more fun with the absurdity of the asking price, though. Reddit user u/nukem156 posted an image to the Street Fighter subreddit of a scrappy Ninja Turtle lookalike made in the game’s built-in character creator. And they’re apparently not the only one using D.I.Y. to skirt around the skins’ cost, as Polygon’s Michael McWhertor found a bunch of homemade turtle costumes roaming around the in-game Battle Lounge.

Despite this baffling over-monetization, Street Fighter 6 has been largely successful among fans and critics, with our review calling it “the new standard in fighting game excellence.” Still, it’s not hard to see why many are frustrated with the almost comical overpricing of these cosmetic items.

Isabel Dumaa Unveils «Always Leaving You»

    [ad_1]

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Isabel Dumaa has released her sparkling latest single “Always Leaving You” today. An emerging talent, Dumaa started most of the writing for her recent tracks, including “Freshman Year” and “Quarter Life Crisis,” during the pandemic—feeling her way through a relationship that wasn’t working and funneling her hurt into music. “Always Leaving You” is brisk and energetic, propelled by Dumaa’s crystalline vocals and bright drumming patterns. It’s thoughtful and sincere, a refreshingly diaristic take on the pitfalls of young love.

“It’s about being in a relationship and feeling like you can’t give that person what they’re giving back to you and feeling a lot of guilt about it. I feel like so many love songs are about heartbreak. The premise of this song was that I was in a relationship and I really cared about this person, but I just couldn’t give what they needed me to give,” Dumaa explains. She mentions the “Anti-hero” age, the era of the scorner’s lament rather than the scorned. “You know that you’re a problem and you want to fix it, and you don’t really know how,” she adds.

“Always Leaving You” is available now on all platforms and you can stream the track here.

  • HBO Picks Up Comedy Series The Franchise

HBO Picks Up Comedy Series The Franchise

    [ad_1]

Amidst the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, HBO has ordered the half-hour comedy The Franchise to series. The show follows the crew of a disregarded franchise film and gives a behind-the-scenes look at the nitty gritty of making superhero movies.

The premise is all the more appealing because of how many downright horrendous franchise-attached films have come out lately. The Flash bombed at the box office, Black Adam was uninteresting sludge, and we all have IP fatigue; clearly The Franchise is tapping into an acute cultural moment. With Emmy winner Jon Brown as the showrunner, this is a promising series to look forward to—whenever writers and actors are guaranteed sufficient pay, that is.

Brown’s writing credits include Succession (which earned him his two Emmys), Fresh Meat, Misfits, and Dead Pixels (which he also created). He’s served as a producer on Veep in the past, so with a resume like that we can expect plenty of barbed banter—and it helps that the king of messy political dynamics, Armando Iannucci, is an executive producer for The Franchise for Dundee Productions. Brown wrote the pilot and they’re bringing out the big guns with Sam Mendes directing. As a director, Mendes is best known for American Beauty, Revolutionary Road, and 1917, the first of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director.

The cast for The Franchise is also fairly stacked. Himesh Patel, who received an Emmy nom for his starring role in Station Eleven, will be appearing alongside Aya Cash (You’re the Worst, The Boys, Welcome to Flatch), English comedy mainstay Jessica Hynes (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Paddington 2), Billy Magnussen (Maniac, Ingrid Goes West), the utterly delightful Lolly Adefope (Ghosts, Shrill), Darren Goldstein (Ozark, American Crime Story), and Isaac Powell (Dear Evan Hansen, American Horror Story). And that’s not to mention the guest stars: the ever-eccentric Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl.

We’ll quell our excitement, though, until the studios give writers and actors their fair share.

  • Where Was Do Revenge Filmed? Netflix Filming Locations

Where Was Do Revenge Filmed? Netflix Filming Locations

    [ad_1]

Co-written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Netflix’s ‘Do Revenge’ is a dark comedy movie that revolves around two young high school students, Drea and Eleanor. Both find themselves on the receiving end of being bullied and become hot topics of discussion in the school for the wrong reasons. While Drea’s topless video gets leaked, Eleanor becomes an outcast when rumors about her forcefully kissing a girl spread like a wildfire.

Following this unfair set of situations, the duo becomes friends and strikes a deal to exact revenge on each other’s bullies. The Netflix movie sticks with the theme of revenge throughout the narrative, but the hilarious elements make it stand out and tickle the viewers’ funny bones. Moreover, the high school setting and the use of other interesting locations will likely make you eager to learn all about the actual taping sites of ‘Do Revenge.’ In that case, we have got you covered!

    Do Revenge Filming Locations

‘Do Revenge’ was filmed in Georgia and Florida, specifically in Atlanta and Miami. The principal photography for the Camila Mendes-starrer reportedly commenced in June 2021, under the working title ‘Strangers,’ and wrapped up in August of the same year. Although the story is set in Miami, most of the filming occurred in Atlanta. In a July 2022 interview with Elle, the director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, revealed more information about the movie’s filming locations and how actresses Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes’ availability influenced her decision.

Robinson said, “It had to be Maya. And so, the movie was supposed to take place in Los Angeles; we moved it and shot it in Atlanta so we could shoot it at the same time as ‘Stranger Things.’ And I rewrote it and reset it in Miami. … They were so perfect that we legit moved the production because if we waited for Maya after Stranger Things, we would’ve lost Cami. And if we had Cami in L.A., we wouldn’t have Maya. I was like, ‘Nope, it has to be both of them.’ So we moved the whole movie six weeks before production.” Now, without further ado, let’s traverse the specific locations that appear in the comedy movie!

    Atlanta, Georgia

Most of ‘Do Revenge’ was lensed across Atlanta, Georgia’s capital and most populous city. The cast and crew seemingly traveled around the city to tape different sequences against suitable backdrops for the movie. For shooting the high school scenes, they either utilized the campus of an actual high school or university or set up camp on a soundstage in one of the filming studios in the city. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Atlanta has also featured in other productions, such as ‘Samaritan,’ ‘Day Shift,’ and ‘Cobra Kai.’

    Miami, Florida

In the later stages of production, in August 2022, the ‘Do Revenge’ team was spotted recording several pivotal sequences in Miami, a major city and coastal metropolis in southeastern Florida. Since the story is set in Miami, they reportedly shot some additional exterior portions for the movie to incorporate them appropriately in different scenes. Popularly known as the Magic City, Miami is considered a major leader in commerce, finance, arts, culture, and international trade.
