The filming unit utilizes the halls, corridors, classrooms, and courtyards for shooting pivotal scenes, including Patio de Letras, the UB Library, Ferran Soldevila Garden, Victòria dels Àngels Gardens, Paraninfo, and the Library of Letters.

Many important scenes are taped on the Somorrostro beach, Barceloneta beach, the Gothic Quarter, Speed Queen laundry at Carrer de la Indústria, 23, and the Pedralbes neighborhood. Furthermore, MUHBA Templo de Augusto at Carrer del Paradís, 10, can be spotted in the backdrop of various sequences throughout the show.

The fight scene between Bruno and Pol in season 1 takes place on Avinguda del Marquès de l’Argentera. The rock music club, Magic Barcelona at Passeig de Picasso, 40, also served as a pivotal lensing site for the series. For season 2, the team utilized the neighborhood of El Raval and the areas around La Sagrada Familia.

South London-born and now Atlanta-based Puma Blue—the moniker adopted by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Allen—has a new album out this Friday. Holy Waters is Allen’s much-awaited sophomore album, a pristine, enigmatic follow-up to 2021’s In Praise of Shadows. Today, Allen has unveiled “Falling Down,” the final single from Holy Waters—joining a foursome of teasers (“Hounds,” “Pretty,” “O, The Blood” and “Dream Of You”).

“Falling Down” is, to put it succinctly, bold and smooth as all get-out. Built on the back of an intricate, looping communion of drum machines, piano and a very delicious jazz horn riff, the track pairs hip-hop eccentricities with R&B mythicality and a rich, Jeff Buckley-inspired vocal softness. Spun like silk and harnessed like a late-night sonic feast, “Falling Down” is a delight from beginning to end—a song so beholden to the allure of grace and rebirth that you can’t help but falling madly in love with the delicacy of it all.

Allen explains about “Falling Down”: “We were watching Cowboy Bebop in the studio and this dusty sound we made really came from those visuals. I wrote the lyrics during a challenging moment, feeling like my stomach was plummeting and struggling to get myself out of the depressing hole I’d fallen into. The song isn’t so much about picking yourself back up as it is about how it feels to fall in the first place.”

‘The Imperfects’ is a Netflix science fiction series that revolves around three young people living in Seattle, Washington. Tilda Webber (Morgan Taylor Campbell), Abbi Singh (Rhianna Jagpal), and Juan Ruiz (Iñaki Godoy) seem to be ordinary young adults. Tilda is the lead singer of a band, Abbi aims to enroll in the genome program at Oxford, and Juan aspires to be a graphic novelist. All three of them take medication for side effects from the treatment they underwent years ago for various genetic conditions. When the pills suddenly stop coming, the repressed abilities of the three protagonists come to the fore. This prompts them to embark on a desperate search for the scientist that made them the way they are, Dr. Alex Sarkov.

In the world of ‘The Imperfects,’ death isn’t as absolute as it generally is, be it in fiction or the real world. If you are wondering whether Abbi, Juan, and Tilda live at the end of the first season of ‘The Imperfects,’ we got you covered. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Does Abbi Die?

As one of the most prevalent themes of ‘The Imperfects’ involves people gaining superpowers through genetic manipulation, Abbi plays the proverbial book-smart of the group. She serves as an audience surrogate when it comes to the science and science fiction aspects of the series. Hailing from an Indian-American family, Abbi has her life figured out at the start of the season. But then, her pills stop coming, and her powers start manifesting. Abbi secretes pheromones that make people sexually attracted to her and temporarily put them under her control. Although she claims to be an ethical person, she has the same strenuous relationship with morality like most other scientists in the show.

Abby becomes involved in a romantic relationship with Hannah, whose body rejected the treatment that Abbi and the others received. Toward the end of the series, Dr. Burke cures her, and she and Hannah move in together. However, the monster virus outbreak happens, and Abby secretes a web-like substance instead of pheromones and turns into a creature trapped in a cocoon. She is alive, but the outbreak has fundamentally changed her.

Does Juan Die?

Juan is perhaps the most moral and ethical person among the three protagonists. He lives with his girlfriend Darcy and has a crush on Tilda. Because of his powers, he turns into a Chupacabra, the legendary animal from the Americas. Toward the end of the season, Juan gets kidnapped by Sarkov, who intends to use him as a test subject for his latest creation, a concoction that can turn Juan permanently into the Chupacabra. On Isabel Finch’s insistence, Sarkov checks his creation on Juan first.

Fortunately, Sarkov’s creation has the opposite effects on Juan than intended. He is cured but, like Abby, turns into a creature after the outbreak. The Chupacabra is gone. Instead, he transforms into a monster with massive hands and nails.

Does Tilda Die?

Tilda’s hearing and vocal cords suddenly become stronger and more sensitive than ever before after the pills stop coming. As the series progresses, she becomes more and more powerful. By the end of the first season, she can tell if someone is lying and can kill people miles away over the phone. In the penultimate episode, Sarkov seemingly kills her by shooting her from behind. But she resurrects in the season finale, discovering she now can do that. In the series, she is the third person with this ability besides Doug, who is already dead, and Hannah.

Unlike Abbi and Juan, Tilda refuses to take the cure, having grown accustomed to her powers. When the season ends, she is the only one among the trio who is unaffected by the monster outbreak.

Prime Videos’s ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is set in the Second Age of the Tolkien universe, charting the course of events that lead to the forging of the rings and the rise of Sauron, who becomes the Lord of the Rings. In uncovering Sauron’s past, the show has kept his identity a secret. He is known to have used many names over time and his true face is not known by anyone. This puts every new character in ‘The Rings of Power’ in such a position that we can’t help but suspect them of becoming the evil entity that wreaks havoc not only in the Second Age but also in the Third.

The fact that a lot of characters in the show have been created originally, with no mention in the movies or books, gives the creators an opportunity to keep the audience on their toes. While there is the matter of The Stranger who fell from the sky to Halbrand, the man that Galadriel meets in the middle of the ocean, the closest that anyone comes to Sauron’s persona is Adar. Who is he and what are the chances that he will become the Lord of the Rings? Let’s find out.

Is Adar Sauron?

Adar is introduced to the audience in the third episode when Arondir is captured by the orcs and taken to a location where other elves and humans have also been held captive. The orcs mention “Adar” and the elves recognize a hint of reverence in the way they say that name. They also notice that Adar means “father”, which gives us a hint as to what this mysterious character’s relationship is with the orcs. While there are other theories about how orcs came to be, there are early versions of ‘The Silmarillion’ in which Tolkien said that the orcs were a form of corrupted elves.

Before Sauron came to power, it was Morgoth who had waged a war against elves, and in doing so, he had captured some of them. He tortured them and by the time he was done with them, they had the making of what would eventually become full-fledged orcs. Later, Tolkien dropped this theory in the favour of making elves a more infallible race. They could be arrogant and rather unpleasant and, according to some stories, are perfectly capable of performing hideous tasks, but they are not inherently evil, which is why they cannot be corrupted so.

While the ending of the third episode only shows his silhouette, it is clear that Adar doesn’t look like other orcs. He is taller and those pointy ears confirm that he is an elf, or at least, part-elf. This would also explain why he is going about using elven words to describe himself, considering that there is a clear hatred between the elves and the orcs. But this raises a very important question: what is an elf doing leading an army of orcs? Its answer could lie in the fact that ‘The Rings of Power’ might have chosen to stay with the earlier version of Tolkien’s accounts about the origins of the orcs, which means that Adar could actually be somewhat of an orc himself, or could have helped in creating orcs for Morgoth. If so, then he must have been a very close, loyal servant of Morgoth. But does this mean that he is Sauron?

Considering that a lot of mystery in ‘The Rings of Power’ is set around Sauron’s identity, it is unlikely the writers of the show would introduce him in such a manner. There is clearly an evil plan that Sauron means to execute, and it feels rather improbable for him to be in the trenches with the orcs when he could be using the power of his “unknown appearance” to be in a position that allows him beyond enemy lines and focus on the job that he must have his heart set on: the formation of the rings. Moreover, Sauron’s physical form was described as something so beautiful that he fooled everyone around him and found his way to Celebrimbor’s forge, which the elf is currently planning to make with Elrond, and corrupted the rings of dwarves and men to his favor.

Considering all this, it is fair to say that while Adar is definitely a villainous character, he is not the ultimate villain of ‘The Rings of Power’. He would more likely be one of Sauron’s trusted soldiers or even his competitor in the succession of Morgoth. There is a lot to look forward to where Adar’s story goes from here, but he is, in all likelihood, not Sauron.

Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Direct presentation focused on Super Mario Bros. Wonder for later this week.

The details were posted on the company’s official Twitter this morning. The presentation will be broadcast at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET on this Thursday, August 31, and will be about 15 minutes long.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder was announced via a trailer at the end of the last Nintendo Direct in June, and marks the first complete original 2D Mario platformer in over a decade, and the first to not be a part of the New Super Mario Bros. series in over 30 years. It’s not surprising that Nintendo is rolling out the red carpet for such a consequential release. While Nintendo has not stated what specific information the Direct will cover, the reveal trailer brings up numerous points of interest, including new power-ups such as the elephant mushroom and the world-bending wonder flower and four-player simultaneous multiplayer featuring numerous playable characters.

Also of note is that we may get to hear more of Charles Martinet’s successor(s) as the voice actor(s) of Mario and Luigi, as it was recently revealed that Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be the first Mario game following the iconic voice actor’s retirement. While Nintendo has stated that the voice cast for the game will not be revealed until its release, we may still get to hear a greater sample of what the new voices sound like from seeing more gameplay.

As a documentary that revisits the tragically unforgettable events of fall 2001, Netflix’s ‘The Anthrax Attacks: In the Shadow of 9/11′ can only be described as equal parts gripping and confounding. That’s because this Dan Krauss-directed original features not just emotional first-hand accounts but also dramatic re-creations as well as archival footage to really get to the heart of the matter. Thus, of course, suspected perpetrator Dr. Bruce Edward Ivins’ life partner Diane Ivins came up as well — so now, if you wish to learn more about her, we’ve got the necessary details for you.

Who is Diane Ivins?

It was back in December 1975 that microbiologist Bruce gladly tied the knot with nursing student Diane (born Mary Diane Betsch), following some time together despite their considerable age gap. He was 29, whereas she was merely 20 at the time, yet they still always managed to make their connection work, as evidenced by the fact they’d remained married until his passing in July 2008. We should mention they’d actually settled down in suburban Maryland by 1978, just to then lead a comfortable life, that is, until Bruce ultimately came under serious suspicion for the anthrax attacks.

Diane did run a daycare center out of their residence, but she was primarily a homemaker and a proud mother of their adopted twins, which is why she was more than aware of the entire ordeal. Unfortunately, though, it all began to end once she found her husband unresponsive on the morning of July 27, 2008, three days after he’d returned home from a two-week stint in the psych ward. Bruce died of an intentional overdose on July 29 — the drugs he’d consumed destroyed his liver, yet his wife declined to put him on the transplant list since she was sure he wouldn’t want that.

“It wasn’t unusual for [Bruce] to sleep all day because he has been depressed and concerned about this investigation [into him in connection with the 2001 anthrax attacks],” Diane once said, according to the Netflix original. “He’s been incredibly, incredibly stressed because of the way he has been hounded by the FBI. And I felt that he just couldn’t take it anymore.”

Where is Diane Ivins Now?

There was a letter Diane had penned to her husband around the time he got out of the psychiatric hospital, recovered from his bedside table by officials, within which she’d let out every feeling. It partly read, “I’m hurt, concerned, confused, and angry about your actions over the last few weeks. You tell me you love me, but you have been rude and sarcastic and nasty many times when you talk to me. You tell me you aren’t going to get any more guns then you fill out an online application for a gun license.” She even expressed worry over him not following medical advice to reduce stress.

As per police reports, Diane also told detectives there was a missing second page to this letter, wherein she’d told Bruce she “knew he was innocent of the anthrax letters, and I never doubted him for a second.” Therefore, it comes as no surprise she still goes by her married name and continues to reside around Frederick, Maryland — the place she has called home for nearly the past 45 years. We should mention Diane previously served as the President of Frederick County Right To Life, a pro-life (anti-abortion) non-profit organization.

Directed by Millicent Shelton, Netflix’s action film ‘End of the Road’ follows Brenda Freeman, who is moving to Houston, Texas, from Los Angeles with her son Cam, daughter Kelly, and brother Reggie. Midway through their journey, Reggie takes a bag full of cash that belongs to a notorious criminal named Mr. Cross from a murder scene. As the 2022 film progresses, Mr. Cross tries to hunt the family down to acquire the bag. The high-adrenaline film offers an edge-of-the-seat experience for the viewers along with a relevant social commentary concerning race, making one intrigued about the possible real-life connections of Brenda’s encounter with an infamous murderer. Is End of the Road a True Story?

No, ‘End of the Road’ is not based on a true story. The film, written by Christopher J. Moore and David Loughery, is entirely fictional and the protagonist Brenda and her family members do not have real-life counterparts. However, Millicent Shelton’s film, within its fictionality, is rooted in reality as well. According to the director, Brenda’s tale is the story of an average Black woman who tries to overcome any adversities on her way to protect herself and her family. “I think it has to do with telling the story of, the real story of Black women in America and that we are strong and we are resilient and you know, we fight,” Shelton told Blackfilm.

The resilience and courage Brenda displays to stand up for herself and her family are relatable to any Black woman, including Shelton, who had to prepare herself to fight several challenges as a Black woman, as per the same interview. As the film progresses, Brenda continues to overcome obstacles one after the other to ensure the safety of her son, daughter, and brother. The transformation of Brenda, from an “average” woman to a force of nature, does remind us of numerous women who had and have been standing up for themselves and their loved ones in varying circumstances.

‘End of the Road’ also explores racism significantly. Brenda and her family face several insults and obstacles only because they are Black. When Kelly retaliates upon getting insulted by two White men, they demand Brenda’s apology for endangering two “White” lives, indicating their contemptible belief that they are superior to Brenda and her Black family. The same repeats when a cleaner steals Mr. Cross’ “money bag” from Brenda. Her gang members team up against her thinking that it will be easy to deal with a Black woman, only for the latter to display her aforementioned resilience and courage.

Another way ‘End of the Road’ connects to reality is through its subtle depiction of drug trafficking in the Southwest states. Mr. Cross, the antagonist of the film, is involved in drug trafficking with a cartel named Sinaloa Cartel. Even though Mr. Cross is a fictional character, Sinaloa Cartel is a real Mexican cartel that has a significant presence in Southwest states like Arizona and Texas, where the film’s narrative is set. The money bag Reggie takes from Harvey Ruck’s room is the cartel’s payment to Mr. Cross. Through the money bag and the cartel’s implicit presence, Millicent Shelton connects her fictional film to the reality of the geography it is set in.

Even though ‘End of the Road’ is fictional, the film succeeds in forming bonds with the reality we live in through Brenda’s character and the obstacles she faces. Such a connection to reality also makes the film stand out among typical action thrillers.

Prime Video’s ‘The Rings of Power’ is a prequel to ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. The show is set in the Second Age, thousands of years before the events in Jackson’s films take place. It uses some familiar names from the films, the ones that had been mentioned here and there, often to give a quick background on the main characters or when it came to talking about the history of the rings. Their individual stories could not be explored in the limited time span of the films.

With the format of a full-fledged series, ‘The Rings of Power’ seems to be picking up all of these characters and charting their stories from the very beginning. In the third episode of Season 1, we meet a young man named Isildur, whose name sounds rather familiar. Who is he and what is his relation to Aragorn, one of the main characters of the ‘LOTR’ trilogy? Let’s find out. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

The Connection Between Isildur and Aragorn

Isildur was first introduced to the filmgoing audience with ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’, where it is revealed that he had been instrumental in ending the war against Sauron. He had cut Sauron’s finger on which he wore the One Ring to rule them all. With the Ring gone, Sauron’s corporeal form disintegrated and Isildur came into its possession. Elrond beseeched Isildur to destroy the Ring by throwing it into the fire of the forge in which it was made, but by then, the man had been corrupted by the power of the Ring, which later came to be known as Isildur’s Bane.

‘The Rings of Power’ starts Isildur’s story in the Second Age in Númenor. The Númenóreans were the descendants of Edain who befriended elves and helped them in the war against Morgoth. For their services, they were given the island of Númenor as a gift. Their first king was Elros, a half-elf and a brother of Elrond. Elendil, father of Isildur, was Elros’ descendant. Because Elros was a half-elf, his descendants had perks that are not enjoyed by normal humans. The Númenóreans were said to have a longer life span, greater build, and intelligence as compared to other normal men.

In ‘The Rings of Power’, we find Elendil serving as the captain of the ship that finds Galadriel and Halbrand, stranded at sea. At this time, Isildur is still very young. With the threat of Sauron looming over their world, war and destruction are brought to Númenor, with Elendil leading the group of survivors to Middle-Earth. Here, he and his sons, Isildur and Anarion, lay the foundation of what would become the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor. After Elendril’s death, his eldest son, Isildur became the king of Gondor and Arnor.

In between this, the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor joined the elves in their fight against Sauron. After his defeat, Isildur came into possession of the Ring and was later killed by orcs, and the Ring was lost. It eventually found its way to Smeagol, and then to the events of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’. After Isildur’s death, his kingdoms, one ruled by his son and the other by his nephew, slowly fell into ruin. Arnor was lost in a battle. Gondor remained, but after King Earnur died, leaving behind no heirs, it found itself in a severe lack of leadership and was, instead, ruled by stewards. The kingdoms were eventually reunited in ‘The Return of the King’ with Aragorn crowned as the ruler.

Tracking Aragorn’s lineage, it is revealed that he is the thirty-ninth direct descendant of Isildur and the only remaining one at that. The time difference between the two of them spans around three thousand years, which is also the time difference between the events of ‘The Rings of Power’ series and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movies. Aragorn’s parents were Arathorn II and Gilrean. Arathorn II was killed when Aragorn was only two years old. Worrying that his true identity as the next-in-line would put him in danger, especially from orcs, who had killed his father, Aragorn was sent to Rivendell, where he was brought up by Elrond.

His lineage was kept a secret even from himself until he came of age and set out into the world to find his people and became the Chieftain of the Dúnedain and a Ranger of the North. Eventually, he crossed paths with and befriended Gandalf, which paved his way to joining the Fellowship of the Ring and fighting in the war to end Sauron’s reign once and for all.

Ahead of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, David Fincher‘s The Killer has released its first trailer. Reuniting Fincher with Seven writer (and uncredited rewriter of The Game and Fight Club) Andrew Kevin Walker, The Killer adapts Alexis Nolent’s French graphic novel of the same name into what looks like a blend between the Hitman videogames and Le Samouraï. The Netflix film will be Fincher’s first since Mank

Michael Fassbender stars as the central assassin, calming his racing heart and reminding himself of various best practices for professional murderers, such as “stick to the plan” and “prevent empathy.” He wears a variety of very funny outfits that will certainly become Halloween favorites (including a bucket hat/Hawaiian shirt situation that’ll be everywhere) as he runs through all the things you need to do to bump someone off and get away with it.

The dialogue is light (only voiceover here, which might not even be in the movie itself) and the logline mirrors it: “After a fateful near miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.”

One might guess that Tilda Swinton, perhaps the best-known name in the cast aside from Fassbender, is the employer who may or may not have a great reason to rub Fassbender’s unnamed murder-man out. But you don’t need to guess to appreciate the already-thrumming score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, complimenting Erik Messerschmidt’s cold, brutal framings. If we know Fincher, The Killer is going to be a very good time watching someone have a very bad time.

The Killer hits theaters on October 27 before heading to Netflix on November 10.

Daneshevskaya, the project of Brooklyn-based Anna Beckerman, is making her Winspear debut this fall with Long Is The Tunnel. Earlier this summer, Beckerman teased a forthcoming full-length with the single “Somewhere In the Middle,” a multi-faceted acoustic track that swelled and sprawled into a heavy, drum-focused rock arrangement. That same type of dynamic construction resurfaces on today’s new track, “Big Bird.” Laced with distortion and supple synth notes, the song aches through bursting percussion and Beckerman’s airy singing that thins out into a beautiful, angelic falsetto. “The biggest bird I’ve ever seen,” she intones. “I don’t know what the reason was. I can’t tell a dove from the biggest bird I’ve ever seen.” It’s an earworm melody that rises and falls and glitters, culminating in a field recording of birds flocking to some unknown destination.

Beckerman says of the track: “I wrote ‘Big Bird’ on GarageBand on my phone. It automatically loops when you use it on your phone so the song ended up being a loop. When I showed the demo to Artur [Szerejko], Ruben [Radlauer], and Hayden [Ticehurst], I said we could turn it into a full song but they were into the loop. The lyrics are about when a big bird swoops down and everyone in the area stops to look at it together. I like moments like that where everyone is childlike and curious.”

Long Is The Tunnel was produced by Radlauer of Model/Actriz, Szerejko and Ticehurst, and the record features guest contributions from Black Country, New Road’s Lewis Evans. Netflix’s ‘Narco-Saints’ (originally titled ‘Suriname’ and ‘The Accidental Narco’) is a South Korean crime thriller series created by Yoon Jong-bin and Kwon Sung-hui that chronicles the journey of a regular businessman named Kang In-gu. He is forced to put his life in danger and cooperate with the National Intelligence Service’s secret operation to help them catch the infamous Korean drug lord, Jeon Yo-hwan, who has taken over a country in South America.

The biographical show involves several plot twists, suspenseful elements, and action-packed sequences, enthralling the viewers through each episode. Narco-Saints Filming Locations

‘Narco-Saints’ is filmed in the Dominican Republic and South Korea, specifically on Jeju Island. The principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the South Korean series reportedly commenced in April 2021 but got delayed shortly after due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the shooting got wrapped up in December of the same year.

Even though the story is set in the South American country of Suriname, the team decided to utilize the similar locales of the Dominican Republic for many sequences to portray an authentic image on-screen. Dominican Republic

Many pivotal sequences for ‘Narco-Saints’ are lensed in the Dominican Republic, a country situated on the Hispaniola island in the Greater Antilles archipelago. Comprising the eastern five-eighths of Hispaniola and being the second largest island in the Greater Antilles, the Dominican Republic is one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean.

Numerous tourists visit the Dominican Republic, and many filmmakers also frequent it for shooting purposes. Thanks to its diverse geography, it has served as a prominent production location for many movies, such as ‘Apocalypse Now,’ ‘Old,’ ‘Furious 7,’ and ‘The Lost City.’

Jeju Island, South Korea

Additional portions of ‘Narco-Saints’ are taped on Jeju Island, the largest and most populous island in South Korea. During a short break when the show’s production of season 1 halted due to the pandemic, director Yoon Jong-bin came up with the idea to utilize Jeju and turn it into similar locations in the Dominican Republic and Suriname. He was initially skeptical of the idea, but when the designers helped the process and finished the scenes with CGI effects, it looked great.

Jeju Island is home to many sites of attraction for tourists, such as Love Land, Jeju Teddy’s Bear Museum, Jeju Maze Park, and Figure Museum Jeju, to name a few. Created by Dennis Heaton and Shelley Eriksen, Netflix’s ‘The Imperfects’ is not an ordinary science fiction series. At times, it dabbles in horror, then mystery, action-adventure, and romance, before circling back to science fiction once more. The series revolves around Tilda Webber (Morgan Taylor Campbell), Abbi Singh (Rhianna Jagpal), and Juan Ruiz (Iñaki Godoy) — three seemingly ordinary young adults whose extra-ordinary traits come to the fore when they stop taking certain pills. This prompts them to embark on a journey to find the man who gave them these abilities in the first place.

When the first season of ‘The Imperfects’ ends, it puts forth more questions than answers. One such question has to involve Dr. Hallenbeck, the mysterious scientist that Dr. Sydney Burke (Italia Ricci) speaks to over a video call in the season finale. Here is everything you need to know about him. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Who Is Dr. Hallenbeck?

Dr. Hallenbeck doesn’t make an appearance until the very last episode of the first season of ‘The Imperfects.’ Given the way Burke (or rather, Isabel Finch, as she is the one in control at this point) acts towards Hallenbeck, he might be her superior within the hierarchy of Flux and even mentor.

The bigger revelation starts to come after we see the first shot of Hallenbeck, who looks like an older version of Alex Sarkov (Rhys Nicholson), the scientist responsible for Tilda, Abbi, and Juan gaining their abilities. In the conversation between Burke/Finch and Hallenbeck, it becomes clear that Sarkov is a product of an experiment, though the man himself has no idea about it. Hallenbeck created him through cloning and genetic engineering as a super genius, so he would be able to solve the impending crisis that Sarkov mentions to Tilda and Juan earlier in the season.

According to Sarkov, a complex relationship exists between rapid degradation of the human genome, expansion of the human population, and climate crisis. Before the industrial revolution, there was a balance in the progression of human evolution and climate change. However, in the past couple of hundred years, Climate change has rapidly escalated, while human evolution has stalled. This is AGDS, the condition that the three protagonists had. Sarkov believes that the situation is so dire that humanity will be the first species in history to cause its own extinction. He believes that the superior race of humanity he is creating will be able to withstand whatever nature throws at it.

It seems that these are the beliefs of Hallenbeck as well, and he created Sarkov to solve this issue. It appears that Burke has been working with Hallenbeck for a long time and reported to him while she collaborated with Sarkov. However, Sarkov’s actions only became more erratic and unpredictable as time progressed, making Hallenbeck wary of his own creation.

In the season finale, Hallenbeck gives one more chance to Sarkov through Burke. When it seems that Burke has formed an attachment to Sarkov, Hallenbeck reminds her that he advised her not to form connections with her subjects. Right now, an interesting dynamic exists between Sarkov, Burke/Finch, and Hallenbeck. Sarkov knows that Burke is actually Finch but doesn’t know that he himself has been created through genetic engineering. Hallenbeck knows Sarkov’s origin but doesn’t know that Finch has taken over Burke’s body. Burke/Finch knows both and holds almost all the cards.

Directed by David M. Rosenthal, Netflix’s ‘No Limit’ AKA ‘Sous Emprise,’ is a French romantic drama movie that revolves around Roxana Aubrey, a student who decides to drop her studies and leave Paris, France. She ultimately decides to travel to the south of France to participate in a free diving course, where she starts falling for her teacher Pascal Gauthier, a world champion freediver. As the two learn more and more about their relationship through various competitions, Roxana starts becoming an expert in underwater sports, creating friction in her romantic life.

Starring Camille Rowe and Sofiane Zermani, the sports drama is a nail-biting adventure full of love, drama, and competition. The characters in the movie present a realistic side of such relationships, leading many to wonder if real-life events somehow inspire the story. If yes, what is the actual story, and how similar is it to the events depicted in the movie? Well, we are here to investigate the same!

Is No Limit a True Story?

Yes, ‘No Limit’ is based on a true story. Helmed and penned by David M. Rosenthal, the movie is inspired by the life of French world record-setting freediver Audrey Mestre. It adapts several events in the French sportswoman’s life into an engaging narrative on-screen. In the movie, we see that the events are primarily set in France, whereas Audrey moved to Mexico City, Mexico, while she was just a teenager. She became a marine biology student at a university in La Paz, Mexico.

Before this, Audrey was already pretty invested in underwater sports and was adept at diving at age thirteen. However, she did not get her certification before she turned sixteen due to France’s law. It was in the year 1996 that Audrey developed an interest in underwater sports and met Francisco “Pipín” Ferreras, a renowned free diver from Cuba. The two soon started dating and moved to Miami, Florida, where he began training her.

This allowed Audrey to reach record depths and become a respected figure in her own right. In 1999, she and Francisco got married in the coastal city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was in the same year that Audrey broke the female world record by free diving at a depth of 125 meters with a single breath of air, and after a year, she broke her own record by diving to a depth of 130 meters.

In October 2002, Audrey decided to break the world record of no-limits free-diving established by Tanya Streeter on August 17, 2002, when the latter dived to 160 meters. She did a practice dive off Bayahibe Beach in the Dominican Republic on October 4, 2002, with a dive team led by Francisco; she went as deep as 166 and kept practicing. On the fateful day of October 12, 2002, Audrey decided to dive as deep as 171 meters.

Having reached the desired depth, Audrey reportedly opened up the valve on her air tank that would inflate the lift bag and take her to the surface. Unfortunately, the tank had no air, forcing the rescue diver to arrive and inflate her lift bag using his supply, though it was too late. Audrey could not reach the surface fast enough due to inadequate inflation, a strong current, and the riser rope was not vertical. The dive should have taken around 3 minutes, yet she remained underwater for over 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

Francisco put on his scuba gear and dived right in to save his wife, albeit the damage was already done, and Audrey was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The event received a lot of backlash for not following the proper guidelines. Many claimed that the event should not have been preponed and that there should have been more safety divers, rescue equipment, and medical professionals on-site to help Audrey. Apparently, she still had a pulse when brought to the surface, but the lack of medical facilities contributed to her death.

The public felt that Francisco’s attempts to resuscitate his wife underwater reportedly led to a loss of crucial time. It was also stated that the Cuban diver was responsible for charging Audrey’s air tank, though he did not allow anyone to check up on it, leading many to wonder about his motivations regarding the same. Audrey was cremated, and her ashes were scattered in the water. Moreover, she was posthumously enlisted in the Women Divers Hall of Fame in 2002.

In 2004, Francisco published a book under his name, titled ‘The Dive: A Story of Love and Obsession,’ which was ghost-written by Linda Robertson. The book details the Cuban diver’s version of events on that fateful day. Interestingly, Carlos Serra’s 2006 book ‘The Last Attempt: The True Story of Freediving Champion Audrey Mestre And The Mystery of Her Death’ presents a different version of the story. It states that Francisco and Audrey were about to divorce, and the former was unhappy about his wife’s success.

In his book, Serra claims that Francisco directly contributed to Audrey’s death by sabotaging her equipment. It should be known that Serra was once Audrey’s partner and part of the female diver’s last team. Additionally, in 2013, ESPN released a documentary called ‘No Limits,’ which was a part of their ‘Nine for IX’ series. Though the details surrounding Audrey’s death have been speculated by many, it is easy to see the similarities between her story and that of Roxana Aubrey in ‘No Limit.’

The two women left their studies behind to pursue underwater sports and were enthralled by their aptitude for the same. Besides, both of them were in a relationship with renowned sportsmen. Despite the name changes and the minor differences, it is easy to see the influence that Audrey’s story has had on the Netflix movie.

‘No Limit’ was filmed in France, the Caribbean, and Belgium, specifically in Paris, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Guadeloupe, and Brussels. The principal photography for the sports movie commenced in early October 2021 and wrapped up in December of the same year. Paris, France

A few portions of ‘No Limit’ were reportedly shot on location in Paris, France’s capital and most populous city. Located in north-central France, the City of Lights is home to several famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Centre Pompidou. Besides the Netflix movie, Paris has featured in several movies and TV shows, such as ‘Love,’ ‘Inception,’ and ‘Echoes.’

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France

Many pivotal sequences for ‘No Limit’ were lensed across Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, one of the eighteen administrative regions of France. Located in the province is Porquerolles, an island in the Îles d’Hyères in Var, which served as one of the main filming sites for the movie. The production unit also spent significant time shooting some scenes in La Ciotat, a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

It seems that the team utilized the premise of the Eden Theatre at 25 Bd Georges Clemenceau in La Ciotat as well. During the shooting schedule, the cast and crew members of ‘No Limit’ were next spotted taping several sequences in the commune of Bandol and the resort town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. In November 2021, the filming unit shot a few scenes in the city of Marseille, particularly by the sea.

Guadeloupe, Caribbean

After wrapping up the production in southern France, the ‘No Limits’ team traveled to Guadeloupe, an archipelago and one of France’s overseas regions in the Caribbean. Many underwater sequences for the movie were taped in and around Guadeloupe, making it a pivotal filming site.

Brussels, Belgium

For lensing additional portions for the Netflix movie, the filming unit set up camp in Brussels, a Belgian region consisting of 19 municipalities and a part of the French Community of Belgium. In particular, they utilized the facilities of the Lites Studios at Fabriekstraat 81 in Vilvoorde, just outside the city.

More underwater scenes for the movie were recorded in the interior water stage of the studios. The film studio has the most advanced interior water stage globally, two large soundstages, and three smaller stages to incorporate all the requirements of different kinds of production.

Philadelphia quartet Mannequin Pussy are back with their first slice of new music since their 2021 EP Perfect. Their latest single, “I Got Heaven,” is an awakening blend of distorted, fiery alt-rock and melodic, catchy dream-pop. Led by Marisa Dabice, Kaleen Reading, Maxine Steen and Colins “Bear” Regisford, Mannequin Pussy teamed up with producer John Congleton (Bully, Sleater-Kinney) to help streamline their intensity into the track and forge a searing critique of weaponized fundamentalism. “And what if we stopped spinning? And what if we’re just flat?” Dabice sings. “And what if Jesus himself ate my fucking snatch?” Whether or not it precedes a new chapter for Mannequin Pussy (they haven’t released a full-length since 2019’s Patience) or just a one-off affair, “I Got Heaven” is a great, rewarding return for the band.

Dabice says of “I Got Heaven”: “‘I Got Heaven’ is a song intended to merge the sacred and the profane and to serve as a reminder that we are all perfect exactly as we have been made and that no one gets to decide how a life should or should not be lived. Heaven is here on a planet that gave us everything we needed to survive. Heaven is in the plants and in the water and in the animals who we share this world with. Heaven is inside of me and inside of you. The weaponization of Christianity for political means, for individual profit and power, as a tool to intentionally divide us is one of the greatest threats to our modern world and a threat to our ability to find solidarity through love. To allow the hatred and the violence and the noise to rise is to reject our sacred purpose as individuals, which is simply to love.”
