The story that got deleted from Reddit’s AITA page has landed in the Am I The Devil subreddit. The story sees a 33-year-old couple fighting about the work the wife has to do for their household. The OP (original poster) is the husband who explains his point of view of their situation.

The husband reveals that he and his wife met when they were both 21. The two got married they were 28 and his wife fell pregnant with their daughter, who is five years old now.

While the husband earns for the family, the wife has taken on the household duties. The OP notes that he works in a high-stress and highly lucrative industry. He notes how his wife has been asking him to get a cleaning lady because the housework has become too much for her to do by herself.The OP notes that the two have a 2700 sqft house where they live with their daughter and two dogs. “Our house is only 2700 sqft and it’s only the 3 humans and 2 dogs” he writes.

Husband made his assistant spy on his wife for a whole week

The OP initially thinks that his wife will drop the subject in a few days. However, she brings it up again and asks him how much he can spare for the cleaning lady. She also wants to put out ads. He says he’ll take care of it.

However, later the husband proceeds to his office and grabs his assistant to do something personal for him. He gives the assistant the password to their home security and makes them watch what his wife is up to every single day for a whole week.

From the footage, he finds out she is doing up to two hours of activity per day.

Her schedule apparently involves walking up in the morning to get their daughter ready for school, dropping her to the bus, and going back to bed. During this time period, their dogs are still unfed and not walked. She wakes up later in the day, takes the dogs for a short walk, and puts food in their bowls.

The wife then orders breakfast and coffee and texts him about “the ridiculous amount of dishes breakfast for her and my daughter created.” He says in reality it’s just a single bowl and a single spoon. She says she then lounges around and watches TV.

In the afternoon she does what he calls “very minimalistic cleaning.” He also says that she “texts me while doing so vastly inflating the difficulty level and level of actual dirt.”

After a week of spying on her, he goes on to confront her about it and it does not go well.

In an update, he also says that the couple has a laundry service meaning his wife doesn’t do the laundry. They also have a meal delivery plan, meaning she does not cook either. He goes on to say that he cooks for the family on Sundays and also gives her a “generous stipend” on a weekly basis to do what she pleases. He also says that she has “She has multiple hobbies and interests that she pursues.”

Many users commented about how there might be something wrong with the wife’s health if she was sleeping so much.

“If I guess that the wife also sleeps at night… All this sleeping is either a medical issue or depression,” one user said. While some felt it could be a sign of depression others said it could be thyroid.

“Yeah she definitely got something going on, my guess was the workload + pregnancy + ppd and her husband being an a** have caused massive burnout for her,” a third person said.

Another commenter noted how the OP was not doing enough for child care himself. If he is “doing pickup and cooking, he’s not exactly doing much child care. Like, does he know his kid’s doctor? Her teacher?” he said.

A few felt that the OP paying a person to spy on his wife could have cost way more than paying for a cleaning lady.
