Renowned American musician and composer Gary Wright has died at 80 after a long-drawn health battle. The singer leaves behind his wife Rose Wright and his two kids.
The Dream Weaver singer’s death was confirmed by his son Justin who revealed that Gary Wright died on Monday, September 4, in his California home. The singer faced a long health battle with diseases like Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. Besides his folk music, Gary was best known as Beatles singer George Harrison’s frequent collaborator. Gary Wright is survived by his wife two kids
Gary Wright who passed away at age 80 is survived by his second wife Rose, his ex-wife Tina, and his two sons from his first marriage – Justin and Dorian. It was Justin who confirmed Gary’s death to TMZ. Justin further told the outlet that Gary’s family was by his side during his death.
Not much is known about the musician’s current spouse Rose as well as his ex-wife Tina. However, it is revealed the singer shared both his sons with his first wife Tina. However, both the women kept a very low profile despite Gary’s fame.
It is unclear what Justin does for a living but Dorian is a professional yoga instructor. Dorian posted his tributes to his father on his Instagram where he has close to 1000 followers. He shared a video reel of his childhood moments with his dad. Gary is seen hanging by the pool with his two kiddos, bonding with them over horseriding and more. He is also seen walking out in the snow.
In another post, Dorian revealed Gary’s last moments writing, “This morning I got to sit in lotus by my father’s side chanting and meditating for 2 hours. As I chanted his last chant I watched him take his last earthly breath. Thank you Dad for letting me help you leave your body for the Astral Plane!”
Gary Wright fought a serious health battle before his death
Gary’s son Justin told TMZ that his father battled Parkinson’s for about 5 or 6 years ago. He also suffered from Lewy body dementia which he got right after Parkinson’s.
Mayo Clinic notes that Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s. In this condition protein deposits called Lewy bodies develop inside the brain’s nerve cells. They affect the brain’s thinking, memory, and movement ability.
Justin further shared with the outlet that Gary’s Parkinsons progressed fast and he was unable to move around and speak.
Fans mourn the great musician
Singer and songwriter Stephen Bishop took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to mourn his dear friend Gary Wright.
“The attached photos hold precious memories from the very first and last time we shared the stage together,” Stephen wrote. He further said, “I will always cherish the warmth and kindness shown to me by Gary and his wife Rose, and I will forever hold dear the stories he shared with me about days gone by.”
Few other fans shared their favorite works of Gary.
A few others noted how three great musical heroes, Jimmy Buffett, Steve Harwell, and Gary Wright had passed away recently.
“They say deaths come in 3s. Unfortunately, this turned out to be true as we just now lost Gary Wright who was famous for his “Dreamweaver.” First Jimmy Buffett, then Steve Harwell, and now Gary Wright. It seems like everyone and everything is fading away,” one heartbroken fan said.
