What is a ‘Chat Badge’ on Twitch Recap 2023?

Twitch, the Amazon-owned streaming service that focuses on gaming, competitions, music, and real-life streams, has offered a Recap report for 2023.

The Recap went live on December 11 and allows streamers to look back and celebrate how they came together on Twitch over the past year. 

As part of the Recap launch celebration, Twitch is also rewarding the most engaged Twitch users of 2023 with an exclusive Recap Chat Badge that started on December, 8.

Badges are small icons to the left of your Twitch username in chat that allow you to showcase a part of your identity on Twitch.

You can have a max of three badges at once (or four if you snag a prediction badge). To use badges in chat you must start by clicking on the icon in the left of your chat box to open your Chat Identity.

Next, click on the badges you want to display next to your name in chat. You can set both your global badges as well as the badges for the channel you are currently in.

You can view other badges you see in chat by clicking on the badge – bringing up a larger view and more details about the badge.

To get the Twitch Recap 2023 Chat Badge, streamers must play the new platform game.

How to get a ‘Chat Badge’ on Twitch Recap 2023

Twitch streamers can play through 2023 on Recap Day in the first ever Twitch Recap Game.

Users can play the game, linked in the Twitch Instagram bio, stream it and also collect as many GoatEmotey as possible can for a chance to earn your place on the global leaderboard.

Get your Recap Chat Badge by playing the Recap Game to unlock the fancy new 2023 icon.

The 2023 Recap event also comes with an emote that Twitch users can send in chat and the new badge that the top 10% of most engaged users this year can attach to their usernames.

A Twitch user took to Twitter to explain that by typing ‘GoatEmotey’ into the chat you can play the game, where you can then get the cool Chat Badge after participating.

In the Twitch Recap Game, players will be tasked with controlling a tiny dinosaur as it runs to the right of the screen and collects goat heads for points while memes and references to Twitch’s 2023 play in the background.

Streamers can share clips of themselves playing the Recap Game on social media.

Twitch streamers are also encouraged to host their own Recap broadcasts summing up the past year they had on the platform. Twitch will feature these streams between December, 11 all the way to December, 18 2023.
