The shocking news of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s reported death in a plane crash has left many internet users wondering about the Wagner Group owner’s net worth.
Russia’s avian authority has revealed that Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin was among the passengers reported dead in a private plane crash. The crash took place near the Russian village of Kuzhenkino. All the ten passengers of the private jet have been reported dead including Wagner commander Dmitry Utkin. Prigozhin had launched an abortive mutiny in June 2023 against Russia’s military leadership. His move posed a massive threat to President Vladimir Putin‘s authority. Amid the report of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death, many have begun searching for his net worth.
Inside Yevgeny Prigozhin’s net worth
Celebrity Net Worth portal notes Prigozhin was a billionaire. His net worth stood tall at $1 billion. The Russian warlord had a yacht, a private plane, and many other luxuries.
The Russian oligarch and mercenary leader was a former close confidant of President Putin. He was famously also called “Putins Chef.” As the story goes, Prigozhin started a chain of stalls selling hot dogs in St. Petersburg after his 13-year prison sentence for robbery and theft. As business began booming he opened a high-end restaurant.
BBC reports that one of Prigozhin’s restaurants is named New Island. The restaurant was essentially a sailing boat on the Neva River. Putin apparently fell in love with the place and took his foreign guests thereafter he became president. This is likely how the duo met for the first time.
“Vladimir Putin… saw that I had no problem serving plates to dignitaries in person,” Prigozhin reportedly said in an interview. “We met when he came with Japanese Prime Minister Mori.” Soon Prigozhin’s Concord catering company became the official food supplier to the Kremlin. This earned him the nickname “Putin’s Chef.”
Wagner Boss reported dead in plane crash
Prigozhin was aboard the Embraer Legacy 600 that went off the radar at 6.11 p.m. Moscow time. Social media is teeming with an unconfirmed video showing the plane hurling down the sky and crashing.
The ten other passengers aboard the private jet included Sergey Propustin, Valeriy Chekalov, Nikolay Matuseev,Evgeniy Makaryan, and Aleksandr Totmin. Crew members Commander Aleksei Levshin, co-pilot Rustam Karimov as well and flight attendant Kristina Raspopova were also aboard.
As per the St. Petersburg news outlet Fontanka (via Guardian) Prigozhin also had a cameraman on board along with, Wagner’s logistics manager.
The Wednesday, August 23 crash took place in the Tver region located to the northwest of Moscow.
Prigozhin was reported to be involved with the Wagner private military company. However, he did not confirm his involvement for a long time. However, in September 2022 he said he had founded the military group in 2014.
