Keith Morrison’s ‘heartfelt words’ about Matthew Perry
Keith Morrison became Matthew Perry’s stepdad when he married his mother, Suzanne Perry, in 1981. At the time, the Friends star would have been around 12 years old.
The two are said to have shared a close bond, and in 2020, three years before Perry’s tragic death, Morrison called his stepson “an intense, talented, focused character,” in an interview with PEOPLE.
“He’s one of those people who always is the center of the room for a reason and it was so as a kid,” he told the publication.
Speaking on him growing up, the 76-year-old said: “He’s an intense, talented, focused character. He’s very bright. That was always the case as he was growing up.”
He then went on to say that Perry being picked for a role like Chandler ‘didn’t surprise him one bit.’
“Him being selected for a role like that does not surprise me one bit. It matched his particular sense of humor precisely, whether they wrote that for him knowing what he was like or whether he adapted it more for himself, probably a combination of the two.”
He then concluded by saying “That character is Matthew. Yeah, and it always has been him.”
Matthew Perry’s mother and father divorced when he was one
In a 2004 interview with NBC News, Perry revealed that his mother and father divorced when he was just one year of age.
“I was one. Yeah. So, I didn’t blame myself quite yet,” he said.
The TV icon’s father, John Bennett Perry is also an actor, and ironically, even played a small part in the role of Friends.
Hardcore fans of the show will remember him playing one of Rachel’s love interests, Joshua’s, dad, in season 4.
Just weeks before his tragic death, Perry posted an Instagram photo with his father, which he captioned: “Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage.”
The Friends star’s family visit his home after his death
After news broke of the star’s tragic death, his family, including his mother, father, and stepdad Keith were seen attending his Los Angeles home.
Multiple police cordoned off the scene, with a white tent placed next to his swimming pull, and jacuzzi, where Matthew is said to have apparently drowned.
Eventually, the three appeared to be in shock when they turned up at the home, where it is said a coroner’s vehicle could be seen, as per The Daily Mail.
