Lil Sodi’s death from ‘car accident’ comes four years after son’s tragedy


The death of rapper Lil Sodi has been confirmed by notable artists on social media amid rumors the cause of death was from a tragic car accident.

Tributes are flooding in for up-and-coming rapper Lil Sodi after his family and friends confirmed his death on Friday (August 4, 2023). No Jumper podcast host Adam22 was among the first to alert his fans of Lil Sodi’s untimely death, followed by the rapper’s niece on Facebook. Sodi – real name Madisodi Simpson – passed away just days after his seven-song record, Too Good For Hell, Too Bad For Heaven, was released.

Lil Sodi’s death confirmed amid car accident rumors

Lil Sodi’s niece, LeeAnna Wright, confirmed the music star’s passing in an emotional message.

“The worst news I ever got today is losing my Uncle Lil Sodi, I will always remember you telling me ‘I will always be there for you no matter what. You’re my niece and I’m not going to let nobody mess with you.’” she wrote.

“I will always keep that in my heart forever and ever. I just want to hear your voice one more time.”

She added: “I love you with all my heart and never forget about you until we meet again.”

Simpson’s fellow rappers and collaborators Afroman and DJ Premier also dedicated a poignant Instagram post to the star.

“R.I.P. Lil Sodi,” wrote Premier. “My dude, I watched you sing at your uncle Monster Pookie Starr’s funeral with so much soul and you’ve always been a real one on so many levels who was making a positive path especially after your son passed. It was so sad to get the call last night but there’s company waiting for you on the other side. You’ll definitely get your wings homie.”

According to several reports, the cause of death was a car accident but there has been no official published record confirming the rumors and Madisodi Simpson’s identity.

Who was Lil Sodi?

Reportedly born and raised in the West Side of South Los Angeles, Lil Sodi was a member of the Eight Tray Gangster Crips gang. His music career kicked off in 2015 after establishing links with Jeezy and his record label, Corporate Thugz Entertainment (CTE). They never signed an official deal but Sodi frequently worked with CTE’s Freddie Gibbs.

That being said, he has released records since 2011, including four albums and 14 singles.

At the time of death, Sodi was the CEO of his own label, Orangutan Music Group, thus explaining his Instagram handle @orangutan_sodi.

The rapper’s death comes four years after his nine-year-old son, Ja’Zay, passed away in a 2019 house fire in Albuquerque.
