Facebook‘s Messenger app continues to remain one of its most-used features and users are annoyed as an error message is being displayed in place of the actual media. This issue is being reported by people around the world.

A significant number of users have taken to Twitter to share screenshots of the “Media is no longer available” message they received while sending or receiving photos on Messenger.

Facebook hasn’t addressed the glitch that a lot of users seem to have issues with. The phrase “Facebook Messenger Down” is now trending on X as users are hoping to find solutions.

According to Downdetector, the issue with the Messenger app not showing the media has been reported by users since the morning of Wednesday, December 13, and the complaints have only increased at the time of writing this article.

Photos are not showing on the texting app

Conversations on chatting apps are incomplete without the exchange of media. The fact that Messenger, one of the most used interfaces in the world, isn’t working has prompted Facebook users to demand answers.

One asked: “I can’t see photos sent to me on Facebook Messenger. Does anyone else have the same problem?”

“Is anyone else having issues sending and seeing photos on Facebook Messenger,” added another.

A third tweet read: “Is it the connection or Facebook Messenger photos are not loading?”

Potential fixes for Facebook Messenger not working

The error could possibly be caused by a bug. Until this issue is rectified from Meta‘s end, you could try the below possible fixes.

  1. Log out of the app and log back into it.
  2. Close the app and open it again.
  3. Make sure you have uninterrupted mobile data/wifi.
  4. Clear Messenger’s cache on your device.
  5. Ensure you’re using the latest version of the app.

If the issue persists, delete the app and reinstall it.
