Suggested reels on Instagram are one of the most widely used features owing to their versatility and are mostly created to meet your specific taste in content, but a significant number of users are frustrated as the feature isn’t working for them, with video suddenly not playing after the app was updated.
Instagram launched Threads a few days ago and so far, the new app has received mixed reviews from users as it lacks features such as hashtags and direct messaging, which Twitter still offers. Naturally, the original app continues to dominate with more features, but the fact that the suggested reels on it have suddenly stopped working has irked the majority of them.
Suggested reels ‘not working’ for some Instagram users
Many Instagram users are facing issues with the suggested reels on their feeds as they aren’t able to play them.
Suggested reels are the videos that appear in the middle of your feed, and showcase clips based on your pattern of content consumption.
The short videos usually play when you simply tap on them, but the same option has stopped a lot of users from seeing reels of their choice.
Social media users started to notice the issue with reels after they updated their respective devices, which has only added to their frustration because they aren’t able to figure out how to fix it.
But, going by the issues raised on Twitter, the reels appear to be stuck due to a potential bug that’s possibly causing the app to glitch.
Instagram hasn’t addressed the issue at the time of this writing.
Users complain the app is down yet again
Technical glitches often occur on social media apps and Instagram has faced a couple of hiccups in 2023 so far. The annoyed users have thus taken to Twitter to raise their complaints.
One user explained the issue they were facing with reels through a Tweet that read: “Having trouble with your app today. Is there an issue with the suggested Reel tiles? As they appear you get a little 2-sec autoplay of the tiles but they aren’t clickable anymore. That seems like a bug, no?”
“Hey Instagram! What’s going on over there? I can’t click on any of the suggested reels to watch them. Is #instagramdown again?,” asked another.
A third user wrote: “Instagram, please fix the issue with reels. I am not able to send my friends anything. Ugh.”
5 potential fixes for Suggested Reels not playing
If it’s a bug that’s stopping the Suggested reels from working normally, the issue can only be fixed by the Instagram team. If the issue is within your device or the app, here are a couple of possible fixes that are worth trying.
- Check your Internet connectivity as low bandwidth can lead to glitching videos.
- If the issue surfaced after the app was updated, then try logging out of it and logging back in.
- Turn your device off, back on, and then try playing the reels.
- You can try uninstalling the app and re-installing the latest version from the app store.
- If the issue persists, get in touch with Instagram Customer Support to address your issues.
