The New Matrix Movie’s Writer And Director Has Been Announced

One of the most celebrated franchises of all time, Keanu Reeves was never the same after the success of «The Matrix.» Reeves has become synonymous with Neo, and it’s hard to imagine the franchise moving without him. After the financial failure of «The Matrix Resurrections,» it seemed like Warner Bros. wouldn’t return to the series, at least not this quickly. With the fourth flick still relatively fresh, it will be interesting to see if Drew Goddard decides to bring Neo back. Trinity actress Carrie-Ann Moss previously shared how she felt about returning to «The Matrix» after a nearly two-decade hiatus.

It’s unclear what Goddard has in store for audiences and if he’ll bring back the iconic duo who define the franchise. «It is not hyperbole to say ‘The Matrix’ films changed both cinema and my life,» Goddard said in a statement. «Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.»

The world of the franchise is vast and expansive and it extends far beyond Neo and Trinity’s exploits, so it’s not like the franchise needs the two characters to move forward. A reboot or prequel would be more than welcome, though hardcore fans would likely be curious to see if Goddard decides to make a straight-up sequel to «Resurrections.» That film flipped the original’s premise on its head, serving as a commentary on Hollywood’s obsession with IPs and legacy sequels. «Matrix 4» also ended with tons of big, unanswered questions which Goddard will hopefully answer.
