The One Where We Lost a Friend artwork goes viral
The death of Matthew Perry has prompted an outpouring of heartfelt messages from the actor’s friends, colleagues and fans across the world. But one tribute in particular has caught the attention of those on social media.
An artwork showing Perry’s Friends character, Chandler Bing, walking off into the distance alongside a chick and a duck has gone viral, with fans reposting the image alongside their dedications to the late actor.
The wholesome watercolor image is the work of UK-based artist Lucy Claire Dunbar, known on Instagram as @lucyclaireillustration. She posted the artwork alongside her own loving tribute: “I truly have no words. Sending love to his family, friends, everyone around the world. Thank you for the laughter.”
As well as sharing the artwork on her Instagram profile, Lucy is also selling prints of the piece on her website and Etsy store, priced at $45 / £36.
The chick and the duck were beloved characters
As well as Chandler Bing, the adorable artwork shows Matthew Perry’s character walking alongside a chick and a duck, something that more casual Friends fans may not be familiar with.
The birds are references to the pets Chandler and Joey adopted in the season 3 episode, The One With a Chick and a Duck.
Imaginatively named Chick and Duck, the birds were well cared for by Chandler and Joey, with the pair looking after the animals as if they were their own children.
Chick and Duck’s final on-screen appearance came in season 6, after which they disappeared, with the rest of the gang telling Joey that they had gone to live on a farm, when in fact they had died of old age.

Friends fans react to ‘beautiful’ tribute
Lucy Claire Dunbar’s artwork has received more than 560,000 likes at the time of writing, with more than 3,000 fans commenting on the post, either to add their own tributes or to commend the touching picture.
“A perfectly balanced tribute, as always,” said one fan on Instagram. “A comedy light just went out.”
While another added: “So sad. The duck and the chick though …🥺”
“This is beautiful. Thank you for always doing these lovely illustrations when someone passes. It really helps,” wrote this fan. “I’m so very sad. Friends helped my mental health so much and I’m grateful to everyone on that show.”
This fan commented: “So devastating, beautiful sketch and tribute to the one and only Chandler Bing.”
And finally, another commenter said: “Oh this illustration is so beautiful and brought tears to my eyes…so so sad 💔 I’m a big fan of Friends and I loved Chandler…and the chick and the duck 😢”
