Recently, people started coming across various videos that suggested Zepotha is a classic 1987 horror movie that one should watch.
Meanwhile, others noticed that their comment section is filled with statements such as “You look like Danny from Zepotha” or “You look like Lydia from Zepotha.” This is being done to prank the user into searching for the movie.
In reality, this movie does not exist and it is part of the TikTok trend that has taken over the platform.
How the trend started
The trend became popular after people came across a post made by user @jeffre. While the video has now been taken down, the clip notes: “What if we created a fake 80s horror movie called ‘Zepotha’ and started commenting omg you look EXACTLY like that one girl from Zepotha or wait you look exactly like ____ from Zepotha.”
The idea was to make many people believe that “this weirdly titled 80s horror film actually exists.”
As of now, several videos with ‘Zepotha’ or ‘Zapotha’ have been emerging on social media and people have also been noticing comments related to this fake movie.
Fake trends have popped up in the past
This is not the first time that fake trends have popped up on TikTok. Back in October 2022, news about the ‘Porcelain challenge‘ emerged online. The idea behind this was to “freak out the boomers.”
To make the situation more believable, a fake FOX News clip was also used. Such trends are just a reminder that people need to verify the information they find online.
