What is In Your Love about?

Tyler Childers’ new music video for In Your Love depicts the love story of two coalminers in 1950s Appalachia.

In the video, which is just under five minutes long, we see the two men fall in love and face negative reactions from their fellow coalminers.

In the end, their love prevails and they move to a farm in the country to begin a new life together.

The video, written by the Poet Laureate of Kentucky, Silas House, and directed by Bryan Schlam, starsColton Haynes and James Scully star as the couple at the center of the video, Jasper and Matthew.

What did Tyler Childers say about his In Your Love video?

In a recent interview, Tyler explained that the inspiration behind the In Your Love music video was the fact that his cousin growing up, who is like his big brother, is gay.

The musician told NPR: “And he graduated from Northern Kentucky, went to Chicago and never came back.”

“He taught me so much about singing; he was my first tough critic,” Tyler continued.

He, therefore, decided to create the video after thinking about his cousin “not having a music video on CMT that spoke to him”.

Fans respond to controversy over the video

While many fans praised the video and the story it features, other users on Twitter hit out against Tyler for his music video being about a gay relationship.

Those users claimed that they are no longer fans of the singer and others said they will not be buying his music going forward.

However, real Tyler fans had the perfect responses to the homophobic reactions to the video.

One said: “If you’re outraged about Tyler Childers’ new music video, chances are you’re not actually a fan. He hasn’t exactly been quiet about his beliefs. Listen harder next time.”

Another said: “Hope I can snag some Tyler Childers tickets now that conservatives are boohooing about his new video.”

“if y’all know any homophobes selling tyler childers tickets PLEADE [sic] LET ME KNOW i have Got to see him in concert,” a third tweeted.
