TikTok has become obsessed with the popular ceiling challenge, but what exactly is it?

Trends and challenges have become a trending topic of discussion on social media, especially on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. With new and unique ideas emerging constantly, the ceiling challenge is the latest craze that has taken over people.

What is the ceiling challenge?

The ceiling challenge involves people sticking their phones to the roof using tape. With J.I.D’s song ‘Surround Sound’ playing in the background, the challenge is completed with people busting some moves to the lyrics.

The trend first started in October with a few people trying the challenge. Soon, it made it to the feed of several others and now has taken over the world.

People have even posted the trend on Instagram after it went viral on TikTok.

How did the trend start?

The person, who started the ceiling challenge is Josiah Lebante, who goes by @josiahlebante14 on TikTok. He posted the video at the beginning of September and has received over 24 million views since then.

Josiah, a “17-year-old aspiring filmmaker,” according to his bio, managed to pull in his friends to join him on his idea. In the follow-up clip that he made, Josiah explained that he recorded the content during their school break.

He admitted that the original idea was from Karl Shakur, a filmmaker and a photographer.

TikTok dance challenges have helped song’s popularity

It is no surprise that social media has become a major source of marketing as it allows songs and artists to be heard and seen by people. With the Surround Sound being used by people in the video, the popularity of the music skyrocketed in recent times.

In the past, songs like Golden Hour by JVKE, Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo, Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, and more have gone viral because of social media.
