The Eagles’ co-founder, Randy Meisner, passed away aged 77, but which of the original band members are still alive in 2023?

Founded in the early 1970s by Randy, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon, the Los Angeles band went on to make history with several of its biggest hits. Some of the original members, however, were replaced over the years and the bandmates in 2023 include Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill, and Deacon Frey, who are currently on their final tour, The Long Goodbye.

Which of the original Eagles members are still alive?

Glenn was the first of the original Eagles member to pass away at the age of 67 in 2016. After this death, His bandmate, Don, said the band was finished without its founding man.

While the 76-year-old Don is still active in his career, the band lost its other founding member Randy on Wednesday, July 26.

The fourth original member of the Eagles, Bernie Leadon is also alive, but he was replaced by Joe in 1975. Joe is now 75 and he’s a part of The Long Goodbye with the current band members.

Randy reportedly left the Eagles after recording the 1976 album Hotel California and his exit followed an argument with Glenn in backstage during their concert in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Randy Meisner passes away at 77

The Eagles announced Randy’s death in a lengthy post shared on their official website and other social media accounts. The statement read:

“The Eagles are sad to report that founding member, bassist, and vocalist, Randy Meisner, passed away last night (July 26) in Los Angeles at age 77, due to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD).”

“As the original bass player for the pioneering country-rock group, Poco, Randy was at the forefront of the musical revolution that began in Los Angeles, in the late 1960s,” it further states.

Speaking of Randy’s contribution to the band and his role in its creation, the Eagles wrote: “Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit.”

The late bassist is survived by his three children.
