A YouTuber named Mia Star is garnering attention after death reports circulated online, so who is she, and what actually happened to her?
The name Mia Star has been trending online in recent weeks and on August 16, 2023, word spread that the “high profile YouTuber” had “died”.
Over the last five weeks, the social media personality has built a loyal 100K Instagram following and even posted about her Replay Awards red carpet appearance just one day before her death.

Mia Star: Who is she and what happened to her?
Mia Star is said to be an influencer extraordinaire and YouTuber. Her content is so impressive that she was nominated for Creator Of The Year at the Replay Award.
There’s one catch: she’s not real. The blonde social media creator is a fake persona created by Relatable, the company behind the popular game What Do You Meme? to promote their first murder mystery party game, Who Killed Mia?
So Mia is indeed dead, according to the company, but no real humans were harmed – and you won’t find out how she died unless you play the immersive game.
Who Killed Mia? asks players to solve the mystery of her death. The game comes in a physical box but players will need to scan a QR code on their phones to lead them to online clues – from text messages to magazine articles – to debunk the theory.
Star’s Instagram account features images of her with friends and her partner, hinting that they are all suspects in the in-game investigation.
The game can be purchased for $29.97 at Walmart or Amazon.
The identity of the woman portraying Star is unknown.
League Of Legends created a real Instagram for an in-game character in 2020
Relatable is not the first company to bring in-game characters to reality. In 2020, Riot Games, the company behind online game League Of Legends, launched a verified Instagram account to promote its new character, Seraphine.
Seraphine was drawn as an animated character, but the company edited her portraits into real-life scenarios such as taking a mirror selfie or rolling skating at the beach.
The pink-haired character was advertised as a singer who collaborated with League Of Legend’s in-game girl group, KDA.
The voice actress was later revealed to be Modern Family actress Michele Panu.
