The death of iconic TV presenter Michael Parkson has been confirmed, prompting interest in his family life with his wife and children.
Broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson has died at the age of 88, his family confirmed. “After a brief illness, Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family,” the statement read. “The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve.”
The British broadcaster was best known for hosting the talk show Parkinson from 1971 to 2007 during his seven-decade career. Parkinson was estimated to have interviewed over 2000 celebrities on the show, including David Attenborough and Diana Ross.
The presenter is survived by his wife Mary and their three children, so here’s what we know about them.

Who is Michael Parkinson’s wife Mary?
Parkinson married Mary Agnes (nee Heneghan) on August 22, 1959 after meeting in Yorkshire.
Born July 16, 1936, Lady Mary Parkinson hails from Doncaster and worked as a journalist. Under her new married name, she presented the Thames TV daytime show, Good Afternoon, and frequently appeared on the comedy panel game show, Through The Keyhole, in the 1980s.
She also hosted Parkinson’s Saturday and Sunday morning programs with her husband until 1984.
The couple are parents to three children called Andrew, Nicholas, and Michael Jr, and have eight grandchildren. After the birth of their youngest son, Michael Parkinson gained national attention for his campaign support of birth control in the 1970s and underwent a vasectomy in 1972 so that Mary no longer had to take the pill. He reportedly called the decision “the most loving thing a man can do for a woman.“
In recent years, Mary has been spotted accompanying her husband to public events, including Wimbledon and the launch of his memoir in 2018.
