Why did Spotify remove the Heart icon?

Spotify has removed the Heart button to combine the Heart and Add to Playlist icons into one single symbol.

They announced the change back in February 2023 and said the feature would begin to roll out to all users globally.

The Heart icon used to be used to mark the songs you wanted to save, while Add to Playlist would add tracks or podcast episodes to your favorite playlist.

The new button gives users a “more streamlined way to save favorite music and podcasts,” saves time and allows you to add to multiple playlists at once.

Heart button replaced with Plus and Check

The Heart icon has been replaced with one single Plus (+) button instead, which can do everything the Heart did and more.

When you press Plus (+), you can save and choose the destination for any song, playlist, or podcast with one tap.

The Plus (+) will turn into a green Check and the song or podcast will be added to Liked Songs or Your Episodes.

You can then change the destination of your saved content if you wish by tapping the Check.

“This upgrade is the latest step in our ongoing work to create a more intuitive experience—all leading to an easier way for you to engage with the music and podcasts you love,” Spotify said.

How to find Spotify saved songs and podcasts

To find your saves, click on Your Library in the bottom bar and the Liked Songs and Your Episodes playlists will be there at the top.

Every time you tap the Plus, the song or podcast episode will automatically save into one of these two categories.

There’s no need to panic because everything you previously saved using the Heart icon will still be there too.

Spotify users are really angry about the change on Twitter, where one person wrote: “Spotify changing the heart shaped like button to an ugly checkmark ruined my day.”

“Why would Spotify replace the heart button with a tick? I will cancel my subscription,” another said angrily.

Users will have to get used to it because the new Plus and Check buttons are here to stay!
