Find out if there are any more train strikes planned in October 2023 as the industrial action continues across Britain.
It’s been more than a year since the train strikes began and the RMT and ASLEF unions are still in dispute with rail bosses over pay and conditions.

Are there any train strikes in October 2023?
No, there aren’t any further train strikes in October 2023 when writing this.
ASLEF members at 16 rail operators staged a 24-hour walkout on September 1. RMT members also took strike action on September 2.
There are now no more walkouts planned, although more could be called at any time as a deal still hasn’t been reached.
Unions only have to give 14 days’ notice when calling new strikes and they will continue until workers receive a pay rise.
Walkouts planned on CrossCountry on September 9 have also been suspended.
National Rail’s Industrial Action page will be updated if more strikes are announced.
RDG responds to RMT’s demands
Ahead of the strike on September 2, the union said it had received a reply to its “road map” from the Rail Delivery Group (RDG).
“After a week, the RDG has formally responded to our initiative to try and reach a negotiated settlement to the national dispute,” Mick Lynch said in August.
“While it is encouraging that the train-operating companies want to continue dialogue with us next week, a fresh proposal will be needed to progress this dispute towards a settlement.”
There hasn’t been an update since then, but the rail operator and union are continuously in talks.

The RMT’s road map
On August 26, the RMT demanded:
- A one-year pay proposal for all companies covering the year 2022-23, with an underpin, backdated to the relevant anniversary dates in 2022.
- A guarantee of no compulsory redundancies.
- An undertaking that discussions with RMT within the companies will be deferred until the outcome and determination from the ticket office closures consultation has been provided by the Government.
- A commitment that in the interim, ahead of December 1 2023, each Train Operating Company will provide to the RMT in writing, their full agenda, and details of “Workforce Reform” proposals.
- A commitment that the existing collective bargaining structures and processes in each company will be respected and adhered to in full including consultation and negotiation.
- A commitment that pay negotiations for the year 2023–2024 will commence from December 1 2023.
