In «Spaceman,» Paul Dano voices Hanuš, a giant alien spider that Czech cosmonaut Jakub Procházka (Adam Sandler) encounters in the outer reaches of the galaxy. As a calming voice of reason for the sole space traveler, Hanuš is pushing Jakub — whose mind is in torment over past traumas and ongoing marital strife with his wife (Carey Mulligan) — to confront his troubles before they destroy him.

In real life, Dano said he would never push Sandler in the direction of a serious comic book movie role like the Riddler to confront the complexities of the mind. After all, Dano told Looper, Sandler has already proven in movies like Paul Thomas Anderson’s «Punch-Drunk Love» and Benny and Josh Safdie’s «Uncut Gems» that he has an incredible acting range. «From PTA to the Safdies and to [«Spaceman»], those are real performances,» Dano said. «They’re not just, ‘Hey, let’s just downplay it a little bit. Let’s just turn the volume down on Adam Sandler a little bit.’ When you watch ‘Uncut Gems’ and you watch ‘Spaceman,’ you see it’s real work. It’s a real character, a real performance, and I think that everybody now sees that so I don’t even think he needs a push.»

Sandler said he realized early on that there were no limitations for comedic actors when he joined his dad to watch legendary «Honeymooners» star Jackie Gleason in the title role in the 1962 film classic «Gigot.» 

«It was exciting to see him do something different that I wasn’t used to,» Sandler recalled. «I’m lucky to get to do stuff like this. ‘Spaceman’ is definitely a new vibe.»

Directed by Johan Renck, «Spaceman» debuts on Netflix on March 1.

Dr. Carol Marcus first originated in «Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,» portrayed by Bibi Besch. She has a romantic relationship with Captain Kirk (William Shatner), and the two have a child together. «Star Trek Into Darkness» doesn’t explore their relationship too much, other than the Kelvin Timeline Kirk (Chris Pine) sneaking a peek at Carol when she’s almost nude. Suffice it to say, there are still plenty of avenues available for the character in this new continuity, so Alice Eve could return for «Star Trek 4» if it eventually happens. 

In 2013, Eve spoke with Impulse Gamer about reprising her role. She said, «I’d love to become an integral member of the crew.» Of course, that quote’s from over 10 years ago, so there’s always a chance Eve could be too busy with other projects to sign on for another Star Trek. Even then, there could still be ways to incorporate the character into a sequel’s storyline. With so much time passing since «Star Trek Beyond,» perhaps Kirk and Dr. Marcus got together off-screen and already have their kid. It would put an intriguing wrinkle into Kirk’s characterization if a child is waiting for him to return from another dangerous mission.

At this point, fans likely just want «Star Trek 4» in any way, shape, or form. Having Dr. Carol Marcus there in any capacity would be the icing on the cake.

Kate Winslet’s days of doing nude scenes might be numbered, but she hasn’t completely retired from showing off her body. The 2023 movie «Lee,» in which she plays a dramatized version of the real-life World War II-era journalist Lee Miller, also features some revealing moments the performer was nervous about filming. Despite this, she refused to shy away from showcasing her real body, even when her colleagues tried to present her in a certain light.

«I had to be really f***ing brave about letting my body be its softest version of itself and not hiding from that,» Winslet told Vogue. «And believe me, people amongst our own team would say, ‘You might just want to sit up a bit.’ And I’d go, ‘Why? [Because of] the bit of flesh you can see? No, that’s the way it’s going to be!’»

In the same interview, Winslet recalled being bullied for how she looked early on in her career, which prompted her to reject the demanding beauty standards the media deems acceptable for women. The «Titanic» star isn’t interested in adhering to those stereotypes, and she tries to reflect that in her work by embracing her natural appearance, even if some scenes are more daunting to shoot than others. 

Lena Dunham quickly became a household name after the premiere of her HBO comedy series «Girls,» which ran for six seasons between 2012 and 2017. The show notably launched the careers of future stars like Adam Driver, Allison Williams, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, but it was Dunham who took the brunt of the show’s publicity due to its frequent use of nudity. Dunham, who also plays the show’s lead Hannah Horvath, faced rampant body-shaming online during the show’s run, but refused to turn that criticism into an excuse to prove anybody wrong.

Dunham remained proud of the way she looked on the show, telling America Ferrera at a Tribeca Film Festival panel (via The Advocate), «I think people were so ready to believe that I was jumping past some massive hurdle in order to get naked on television, and I was like, that’s not where my fear lies.» When Dunham did undergo a noticeable weight loss following the end of «Girls,» spurred by the end of her relationship with musician Jack Antonoff, she highlighted online criticism against her as an example of the hardships women in the entertainment industry face.

Lately, Dunham has spoken out about how comfortable she is with her current body image. While she has admitted that the criticism throughout her 20s would often feel overwhelming, she said that it’s silly to look back on now.

The ever-persistent fan theory of Phil Connors’ buying insurance to break his Groundhog Day curse adds a layer of meta-commentary to a movie that already has so much to say. It’s an undeniably fascinating idea that viewers have not only latched on to but have gone on to mold interpretations of their own. 

Redditor u/burghguy3 replied to the aforementioned thread, stating that they’ve always been a fan of the theory. However, the user also believes that along with Ned, the lovable news reporter Rita (Andie MacDowell) is an equally important part of the proceedings.»My own head-cannon is that the ‘deal with the devil’ Phil makes isn’t to escape the loop, it’s for the love of Rita,» the user stated. «Ned wants his narcissistic sense of self-importance … By purchasing Ned’s insurance, Phil is symbolically relinquishing his own ego to Ned the devil. In exchange, Phil is rewarded with the true love of another (Rita), as well as riding himself of his own parasitic narcissism.» Rita’s love being a motivation for Phil’s drastic change of heart isn’t all that surprising, but some believe she plays an even deeper role in the context of the theory. 

Redditor u/Freshstocx sees Rita as the antithesis of Ned’s character, commenting, «Actually, Ned is the devil, but Rita is an angel on the other side of Phil’s shoulder. Rita says in the bed that maybe it’s not a curse and she wished she had a thousand lives. ‘It’s all in how you look at it.’ After that night, he begins to do good.» Safe to say, without this crucial awakening, Phil’s story could have ended very differently. 

«The Marvels» didn’t light up the box office, with its $47 million opening weekend being a record low for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While speaking at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit (via CNBC), Disney CEO Bob Iger gave a couple of reasons for why he thinks the film didn’t live up to the franchise’s lofty expectations, noting that it suffered from a lack of oversight while it was in production.

«The Marvels was shot during COVID,» Iger said. «There wasn’t as much supervision on the set, so to speak, where we have executives [that are] really looking over what’s being done day after day after day.»

Iger added that «The Marvels’» box office performance was a wake-up call for the studio. It’s one of the few MCU movies not to gross over $1 billion, having only raked in just over $199 million. As such, Iger believes that the studio needs to have more realistic expectations and not press ahead with developing projects, particularly sequels, for the sake of putting out regular content. Despite the setbacks, «The Marvels» still boasts an 83% fan score on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting that many people enjoyed the superteam caper.

It’s an interesting hypothesis that Nedry’s hood leads to his undoing, but it might go even further than that. The smart-mouthed keyboard cowboy often wears garish outfits that reflect his belief that he is the brightest person in every scenario. No wonder, then, that the Dilophosaurus would be drawn to him. The park’s most deceitful employee has unknowingly taken the peacock approach (birds did evolve from dinosaurs, after all), cluelessly flashing his colors to a dinosaur that’s in the mood for some action.

When you compare it to other deaths in the film, u/magecatwitharrows’s theory does hold water. For the most part, the victims of dinosaur attacks wear muted and reserved colors. Bob Peck’s Robert Muldoon, for example, might get taken out by some clever girls, but at least his khaki combo and cool hat show he’s smart enough not to attract attention. Ultimately, the work-dodging weasel that is Nedry gets what’s coming to him and loses a can of shaving cream in the process. Serves the hack(er) right.

There’s one very memorable thing about «Ferris Bueller» — its utterly bizarre earworm of a theme song, which feels like a dance club practice run for the «Seinfeld» opening titles. Still, it’s hard not to at least give the TV adaptation credit for chutzpah. Opening with Charlie Schlatter declaring himself the true Ferris and the film a poor fictionalization of his life, this new take on the character puts a chainsaw through a cutout of the movie version before blasting into the first episode.

The remaining 12 outings of «Ferris Bueller» don’t move its characters in any new directions — most of the show’s plots are retrograde sitcom ideas, or repetitive notions scraped up from the film itself. Sloane (Ami Dolenz) and Ferris have an on-again/off-again romance, and Cameron (Brandon Douglas) feels small in his best friend’s shadow. Only one episode –  «Baby You Can’t Drive My Car» — dares to do something unique and has Ferris confront a ghost who doesn’t want him to claim his car.

Unfortunately, the show was creamed in the ratings and by critics when compared to yet another take on the Bueller ethos — «Parker Lewis Can’t Lose,» a Fox sitcom clearly inspired by Ferris’ devil-may-care attitude but which lasted two seasons longer. As for Jennifer Aniston, who only managed to get one spotlight episode for Jeannie before the series was canceled, she would bounce from the B-horror classic «Leprechaun» to the Fox sketch comedy show «The Edge» to the one-season wonder «Muddling Through» before becoming one of America’s favorite «Friends,» finally breaking her Jeannie-esque string of bad luck.

As critically acclaimed as Holland’s tenure has been as Peter Parker, his onscreen adventures seem to serve the greater MCU legacy first. Aside from 2017’s «Spider-Man: Homecoming,» fans have not really gotten a low-level Spidey story that takes place solely in New York City. Throughout the character’s history, readers have resonated with the fact that he’s just a guy struggling to pay rent and go to school, and the ending of «No Way Home» seems to be setting up that chapter. However, the MCU will likely go all in on the Multiverse as it barrels toward «Avengers: Secret Wars,» so perhaps another Multiversal story would somehow tie Spider-Man into that movie. But is it all too much at the same time?

There’s another cinematic «Spider-Man» franchise with the «Spider-Verse» movies, headed by Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). Plus, Sony’s Marvel movies have dabbled with the Multiverse, like the aforementioned «Morbius» scene and Venom (Tom Hardy) briefly getting pulled out of his reality. «Spider-Man 4» could be an opportunity to set back the clock in a way. It can serve as a way to get the character back to basics without feeling the need to tie into many other superheroes.

The Redditor’s theory about «Spider-Man 4» being another cameo-fest is definitely plausible. Sony could bring Hardy’s Venom and other characters from their universe into «Spider-Man 4,» maybe necessitating the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s variants to assist Holland’s Spidey. One rumor states how Marvel Studios and Sony are fighting about this precise thing, with the former wanting a grounded story and the latter hoping for more Multiverse. Through all this, there could be a way for both parties to be happy.

If you’ve ever wanted a movie that’s equal parts Denzel Washington hanging out in Italy and brutally murdering a 10th of the population of a small town, have we got a movie for you. «The Equalizer 3» doesn’t reinvent the genre, nor does it do much of note for the character that has kept Washington in the game as a relatively solid action star despite the fact that he’s pushing 70. It is, however, a decent send-off for a perfectly fine series of films that consistently pulled off some of the best fight sequences of the late 2010s.

For fans of the previous two installments who have yet to see the third and final film, you should know beforehand that Robert McCall’s last journey is markedly quieter than usual. Director Antoine Fuqua, a fan of Akira Kurosawa, goes for a steady, patient tone that’s closer to that of «Seven Samurai» than «John Wick.» While there’s certainly a lot of blood spilled within its brisk 109-minute runtime, Fuqua is more concerned with exploring how — or, rather, if — a man who has traded in so much violence for much of his life can reach an end that’s not only peaceful and honorable but genuinely happy. 

Whether one agrees with Fuqua’s conclusion will vary from viewer to viewer, but the journey is admirable and even appreciably risky nonetheless. And, as an added bonus, Dakota Fanning’s inclusion makes this the «Man on Fire» reunion we never knew we needed.

If you’re somehow unfamiliar with «I’m Just Ken» — or it’s been a little while since you’ve seen «Barbie» — here’s a quick refresher. As the movie begins, unseen narrator Helen Mirren tells us that Barbie (Margot Robbie) «has a great day every day … but Ken only has a good day if Barbie looks at him.» The movie is stocked with plenty of Kens, but the lead one is played by Ryan Gosling, whose attempts to woo and impress Barbie are played for constant laughs. Then, the two journey to the real world — and Ken has a startling revelation.

Barbie and the audience are shocked when Barbie returns to the matriarchal Barbieland and discovers that Ken has staged a coup, installing a hastily-formed patriarchy and transforming it into his own «Kendom.» Barbie begs for her home back, but Ken stands firm before experiencing another revelation; he feels like he’s nothing compared to Barbie. This is where «I’m Just Ken» comes in, beginning with Ken crooning alone in Barbie’s former bedroom before entering a liminal space where he sings and dances with his fellow Kens … as they collectively wonder if they’ll ever be enough. It’s a clear highlight of the movie — and, not for nothing, the song is incredibly catchy. 

When discussing his unique laser sword on «The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,» Samuel L. Jackson referred to the awesome engraving, explaining it was not something he’d even asked for. «No, they did that because they loved me,» Jackson said. «I didn’t ask for it. When the shoot was over, when they presented it to me, it had ‘BMF’ on the on-off button.» The engraving was a great bit of fan love for one of the actor’s most famous roles, which had him using F-bombs instead of the Force. 

The question is, could he ever reprise the role of Mace Windu regardless of how things went in «Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith»? When asked by Empire about Mace’s exit in the third prequel, Jackson proclaimed, «HE’S NOT DEAD!!!» It might seem unlikely that Mace Windu could live to fight another day, but since Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) somehow returns in «Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker,» why couldn’t the Jedi he killed also come back? When asked what he’d like to do if he returned, Jackson said, «EVERYTHING YES!!» 

Clearly, the Force and the enthusiasm to fire up the purple lightsaber are strong with this one, but should Mace Windu ever find a way back to «Star Wars,» we’ll now know what message is hidden on his elegant weapon from a more civilized age.

While hosting a «Dune: Part Two» discussion for Fandango, Naz Perez discussed Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet’s antics. «I was reading that you guys had to be separated on set because you were having so much fun, and I know you like calling him Chalamala Bing Bong,» Perez said. «Well, my gran calls him Chalamala Bing Bong, so…,» Pugh replied. 

The «Little Women» star was the one who came up with that bit. In a chat with The Guardian in 2018, Pugh revealed that she mistakenly referred to Chalamet by his nickname in person. «I accidentally called him Timothée Chalamala-bing-bong to his face,» she said. «He was like, ‘What?’ And I was like, ‘Nothing!’» Previously, Pugh only privately referred to Chalamet by his fake name in conversations with her grandmother.

Chalamet and Pugh have a great friendship, but the «Wonka» actor also has a surprisingly cute dynamic with his co-star’s grandmother. While speaking with Trending Hollywood at the «Dune 2» premiere in London, Pugh mentioned she brought her grandma to the event. For Chalamet, this was a huge win, as Pugh said, «They have a special relationship.» Chalamet joked that he knew «Granny Pat» before he knew Pugh.
