‘He just passed away a moment ago’ scam

The viral Facebook and TikTok scam consists of a fake video link that hackers are trying to deceive people into clicking on.

One of the links looks like a video from ABC News covering a recent car accident, while another has the BBC News logo and shows police.

Scammers across social media are sharing the phony clips and writing in the caption: “He just passed away a moment ago.”

This emotional touch encourages people to click on the video as they want to find out who died – but it’s all a horrible trick.

If you see a post like this on social media, do not click on the link as it’s a fake video that will take you to a scam page.

Scammers are attempting to hack your device and steal your details if you click, such as bank information and passwords.

Sadly, phishing posts and emails that contain fraudulent links are becoming increasingly common on the internet.

Earlier this year, a ‘look who died in an accident’ message similarly pulled on people’s heartstrings to steal information.
