We still have a ways to go until the return of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in «Daredevil: Born Again,» but the one perk besides supporting cast members from the Netflix series returning is the outfit he’ll be donning. The Man Without Fear will get straight back into the fan-favorite red ensemble, horns and all, wasting no time going from the basic knitwear get-up. While there’s nothing wrong with that original effort, the one outfit we hope Matt Murdock will never wear is the red and black, heavily armored costume that was, like so many other wardrobe slip-ups, a byproduct of the ’90s.

Back when heroes had excessive storage pouches and the muscles to match, Matt Murdock got treated like other heroes, courtesy of D.G. Chichester. After getting a hammering from the Wild Pack, Matt returned with a heavily armored outfit in Daredevil #321. A mix of black and red, it abandoned the sleek scarlet look that fans had grown accustomed to and adored. 

While it wasn’t met with the most fabulous reception, it still has a place in Marvel Comics history, so much so that Chichester revisited that chapter of Murdock’s history in «Daredevil: Black Armor,» which, in August 2023, filled in gaps from its time in the ’90s. Admittedly, there are some other outfits that Murdock went through that didn’t hit the mark as well as the all-red look did, but to bring this armored atrocity to live action really would be sinful.

Fans aren’t impressed with the idea of a «Harry Potter» reboot because literally nobody asked for it … but it’s happening, and Warner Bros. is hard at work hiring an artistic team. In early 2024, Deadline reported that the studio was fielding pitches from potential writers for the new series. While Wes Anderson’s name didn’t crop up, Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran, and Michael Lesslie’s names did. Most of these writers are best known for projects associated with television or streaming. Conversely, Lesslie co-wrote Lionsgate Film’s «The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,» a highly successful adaptation of a young adult story.

JK Rowling is the only confirmed name outside of the writers’ room. The author will serve as an executive producer on the series, which Max is already framing as a «faithful adaptation of the iconic books.» That alone probably suggests that Anderson will never associate with the project as, again, his style clashes so completely with «Harry Potter.» And yet that seems to draw people in because Would You Watch This isn’t the only social media account to fantasize about the pairing.

Googling the key terms «Wes Anderson» and «Harry Potter» summons an unending string of digital creators attempting to lay the groundwork for Anderson’s future employment. Of course, a slight rephrasing also conjures Anderson-themed «Star Wars» content, so maybe it has less to do with his direct connection to the Wizarding World and more to do with his trademark style.

For fans of spacefaring sci-fi and fantasy, it’s a remarkable time to be alive. Both the «Star Trek» and the «Star Wars» franchises are experiencing long-running revivals, in large part thanks to the advent of streaming platforms. But fans won’t see Nicolas Cage in a «Star Wars» movie anytime soon. When Yahoo! asked the actor how he feels about joining the «Star Wars» universe, he made it clear where his loyalties lie. «‘No’ is the answer. I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man,» he declared. Driving the point home, he added, «I’m not in the ‘Star Wars’ family. I’m in the ‘Star Trek’ family.»

And it’s not just lip service — Cage’s love of «Star Trek» runs deep. «I grew up watching [William] Shatner. I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific in the movies,» he said. Like many Trekkies, Cage feels the series’ often nuanced sociopolitical commentary elevates it above standard sci-fi shows like «Lost in Space.» As he put it, «What science fiction is really all about and why it’s such an important genre is that [it] is really where you can say whatever you want, however you feel, you put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time or in the future … And ‘Star Trek’ really embraced that.»

It’s surprising that Hasbro hasn’t played around with the idea of Transformers based on countries before. After all, the Autobots and Decepticons have populated our planet for a myriad of years, and it’s hard to not see them being influenced by our various evolving cultures. What the PlanetAI exercise does very well is show just how diverse the cultures and aesthetics on our planet are, revealing that the Transformers are a blank canvas that can be molded to fit each nation’s customs and traditions. 

Consider the artificial intelligence-generated image that shows Transformers directly influenced by Japan’s rich history with samurai. That image takes cues from the country’s tradition by creating a Transformer that looks absolutely brilliant and in tune with the visual language that has dominated the nation. It’s genuinely difficult not to imagine this Transformer existing alongside the likes of Megatron and Optimus Prime. 

Or how about the Transformer from Albania, which transforms into an eagle? The Balkan country’s national animal and the Albanian flag boasts a two-headed eagle. This is a great example of AI thinking beyond just the traditional, towering, and humanoid robot designs that the franchise is mostly known for. The Chinese Transformer, for example, turns into a dragon — a significant creature for the Middle Kingdom. 

There are, however, a few duds, which don’t do much to express just how unique some cultures are. For example, the United States-inspired Transformer is a towering beast, reminiscent of a beefier Optimus Prime, and simply features the Star Spangled Banner throughout its design. 

John Hughes’ classic 1984 directorial debut, «16 Candles,» made Molly Ringwald an ’80s icon. But unlike Hughes’ later fare, which was mostly rated PG-13, Hughes’ first effort was labeled family-friendly — primarily because it was made before the advent of the PG-13 rating that was first used later that same year on «Red Dawn.»

As an edgy comedy with lots of adult themes (and plenty of frank sex talk) «16 Candles» doesn’t feel like a family movie, but it is rated PG. There is also one scene that makes the movie wholly inappropriate for younger audiences, when Sam spies on a classmate, Caroline Mumford (Haviland Morris), because she’s jealous of her popularity — and her stunning figure. In the scene, Sam and Caroline are both in the school showers, and Caroline is shown fully nude, head to toe, as water streams down her body.

What makes the scene all the more surprising for a PG movie is how it’s presented: After a scene between two jocks in the gym, Hughes jump-cuts straight to a close-up of Caroline’s breasts, complete with the sound of a bouncing ball. And the shot lingers on her too, with dramatic sunswept lighting to make sure the entire audience gets a good long look at Caroline’s naked form.

Sylvester Stallone and Ryan Gosling were in each other’s orbit because the huge action star almost played one of the Kens in «Barbie.» Stallone told Fallon he couldn’t because of his commitment to filming his hit Paramount+ series «Tulsa King.» On top of that, he isn’t quite convinced he’s as much of a living doll as Gosling is. «Obviously, we are opposites,» he said. «He’s good-looking. I’m not. Seriously! Could you imagine me as Ken? It doesn’t work at all.»

On the flip side, Stallone said he’s afraid that Gosling’s Ken-like appearance might be a detriment if he were up for consideration to take over the classic role. «I would say yes but I don’t know if anyone would say, ‘Hey, he’s too good-looking to be Rambo,» the actor said.

As he apparently admitted to Stallone during their dinner, Gosling has had Rambo on the brain for a long time. «I even thought my face felt like Sylvester Stallone’s and I put a bunch of steak knives in my Fisher-Price Houdini kit,» he revealed to Jay Leno on «The Tonight Show» in 2011. «I took it to school the next day and I threw them at all the kids at recess.»

During their time in the pages of Marvel Comics, Wolverine and Hulk have crossed paths as both allies and enemies. Perhaps their most famous meeting as adversaries takes place in «The Incredible Hulk» #181, where they face off in a hard-hitting battle that’s set up in the previous issue. In fact, «The Incredible Hulk» #180 is the first comic appearance of Wolverine, with him making a brief cameo on the final page of the story. Despite being so closely tied together in print, though, the two Marvel staples have never met up in live-action at the movies.

In the event the Hulk features in «Deadpool & Wolverine,» it has to be the place where we finally get a silver screen fight between him and Logan. After all, not only do they occupy many a comic book page together, but the film is the latter’s MCU debut. Therefore, what better way to welcome him into this universe than in the same way he joined the comic one, by locking up with the Hulk? Of course, it remains a mystery whether fans can expect the Hulk to pop up in the movie, so it’s best to temper expectations for the time being.

Milo Ventimiglia had the good fortune of appearing in one legendary film franchise during his career — he played Rocky Balboa’s son, Robert Balboa, opposite Sylvester Stallone in «Rocky Balboa» and «Creed II.» But he’s not quite giving up on appearing in others no matter how insurmountable the odds.

«For me, I like to look at what’s in front of me and not too far ahead,» Ventimiglia told Comic Book. «You have ‘Return of the Jedi’ behind you before there’s real information about Anakin Skywalker. I think I had a goal when I was a teenager where I wanted to play Anakin Skywalker in a ‘Star Wars’ film just like I wanted to play Batman, and I think those are good dreams to have because they push you forward. But you also can’t let it deter you when that’s not your role.»

Effectively, Ventimiglia said he’s going to keep focusing on the promise the future holds while living in the now. «Maybe I’m too young for Batman, or maybe they’re just not right for me and that’s okay,» the actor explained. «I think there could be a cool universe and with AI, maybe there’s going to be a Milo playing Batman, who knows.»

Apart from «Heroes,» Ventimiglia has explored the superhero genre in different avenues over the years. In live-action, the actor played serial killer Jason Skolimski, aka The Ogre, in three episodes of Fox’s Batman-themed series «Gotham» in 2015. In animation, Ventimiglia voiced the English version of Logan aka Wolverine in Marvel’s series «Iron Man» in 2010, and again in «Marvel Anime,» «Wolverine,» and «Blade,» all in 2011.

Throughout the podcast interview, Keegan expanded on how the alleged cult god started — and even confessed that he ponied up quite a bit of money to put together this space for what he revealed were veterans of the Occupy Wall Street movement. «Looking back, it was insane,» he admitted. «I was putting down tens of thousands of dollars, but we opened it up and spent three years and really did build an amazing friend group. We went through something really significant from 2014 to 2017.»

Keegan also had to discuss the fact that, in the aforementioned Vice story, the whole place gave off the unmistakable energy of a cult. The report details how an unnamed man referred to as Third Eye served as some sort of official greeter for the organization and also said he was part of the «inner circle,» describing Keegan as the leader whose word was law. So how did Keegan address those issues?

«I probably should have had a little bit more media training at the time,» Keegan told the «Pod Meets World» hosts. «They just really created a very interesting, colorful story and put it together… we really just got together and did a Sunday thing. We did almost 1,000 events in three years and it was actually really hard. It was really beneficial to a lot of people, I still hear about it now, where people are like, ‘That was such a great time.’»

Many of the comments under the crew jacket photo are from people suggesting that whoever that crew member is (if they even exist), they likely messed up. The top comment from u/rexepic7567 puts a funny spin on the situation: «5 bucks says disney has a bounty on this guy wearing the jacket.» Regardless of whether crew members were supposed to wear their jackets in public yet, it’s already pretty much a sure bet that Thunderbolt Ross will become Red Hulk in «Captain America: Brave New World.» It would be stranger if he didn’t, to be honest.

For starters, the Instagram account @1414falconfan uploaded some leaked images of the «Captain America 4» Lego set, including Captain America (Anthony Mackie) fighting Red Hulk. The post was deleted, but its legacy persists thanks to a Reddit upload from u/Ok_Contest493. Additionally, a set photo came out in June 2023 showing Harrison Ford wearing some tattered pants. Normally, when someone’s wearing ripped pants, it’s because they just Hulked out. Taking all of this evidence into account, it sure does seem like Captain America is going to have his hands full taking on a full-fledged Hulk in his next live-action outing.

Granted, these could all be misdirects. Maybe «Captain America 4» brought on an actor of Harrison Ford’s caliber to play the president of the United States for a quick cameo and nothing more. However, it’s definitely looking like audiences should prepare for some Red Hulk action.

In the canonical Star Wars novel «Shadow of the Sith,» written by Adam Christopher and published in June 2022, Palaptine’s various cloning experiments are explored in detail. Rey’s father wasn’t a natural-born son of the Sith lord, but rather a strand-cast clone of him.

In essence, strand-cast cloning is a process in which the base genetic template of a chosen subject is blended with external genetic information to create a new, artificial being tied to the progenitor but notably different. Snoke, the Palpatine stand-in sent to lead the First Order and train Kylo Ren in the dark side, is also a strand-cast creation. During his decades-long exile on Exegol, Palpatine clung desperately to life through a series of clone bodies, most of which quickly failed. His «son,» Rey’s father, was yet another attempt to create a long-term vessel for the dark lord.

All that means is that no, there is no hard proof that Palaptine has ever done the deed. And yet, the question remains. He was the leader of the galaxy for more than 30 years, after all, and as any fan of «The Incredibles» will know, power is an attractive quality.

Getting Kevin Mazur back to take the first promotional image for «Michael» is no coincidence. It seems that Antoine Fuqua has taken strides to maximize the authenticity of the film and its portrayal of Michael Jackson as a public figure in various regards. In fact, Mazur isn’t the only crew member with a history concerning the famous singer. «We have assembled an incredible team of artists for this project — hair & makeup, costumes, cinematography, choreography, lighting, everything — and some who knew and worked with Michael are reuniting for this film,» Fuqua stated in the press release.

Of course, the biggest example is the casting of Jaafar Jackson in the main role, and those involved with the film have lavished plenty of praise on his performance. «With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael. He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could,» producer Graham King said. «It goes beyond the physical resemblance,» Fuqua concurred. «It’s Michael’s spirit that comes through in a magical way. You have to experience it to believe it.»

Ultimately, viewers will be able to see for themselves whether Jaafar Jackson’s MJ persona matches the real thing in motion. If it’s as accurate of a portrayal as has been claimed, «Michael» may very well be one of the various movies that will blow everyone away when it arrives in theaters on April 18, 2025.

Obviously, «Madame Web» is the source of tons of memes and jokes on social media. Once it became known that «Madame Web» doesn’t feature a post-credits scene, many took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to further troll the film. «If you’re going to see Madame Web this weekend, make sure you stick around for the post credits scene. It happens after the reel ends and the lights come back on. Just stick around for 20 or 30 minutes (hide if you have to) & the movie will just start again. Maybe another movie,» said user @iamtherog. For the record: don’t actually do that. 

«Okay but when does The Vulture show up then?» joked Redditor u/mcu_addict92 on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit. The user is alluding to the contrived and confusing post-credits sequence for «Morbius,» which features Michael Keaton’s Vulture meeting Morbius (Jared Leto) for the first (and probably last?) time. «It feels like they knew this wasn’t going to be successful enough to get a sequel, so they just didn’t even bother with post-credits scenes,» candidly wrote u/Colton826. «I think many of us hoped it would have 0 pre-credit scenes as well,» said u/SimpleDose. 

Without diving deep into spoilers, «Madame Web» is an isolated narrative and it does sort of make sense that the film’s creatives wanted the film to stand on its own, without reliance on future teases and promises of crossovers. «We made a decision early on that the advantage in this story was not to attach it to all these other stories,» producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told Comicbook.com, adding, «It is its own standalone [film], which gave the freedom to really tell the character story.»

As many critics point out, the superhero genre on the whole feels like it’s on a decline. Marvel and DC films haven’t been making as big of a splash as they once did, and thanks to a string of duds like the aforementioned «Morbius» — and now «Madame Web» — Sony’s attempt at weaving a web between itself and the MCU feels like an exercise in futility. Over at USA Today, Brian Truitt noted that «Madame Web» is a disservice to this ailing genre, bringing it back several steps rather than forward: «Instead of being a breath of fresh air akin to the Tom Holland Spider-flicks, ‘Madame Web’ is instead a reminder of the Worst Superhero Times (aka the mid-2000s).»

Lex Briscuso at TheWrap was blunt, like many other critics — and said that the movie is just poorly made as well as being a cruddy entry into the ongoing Marvel story: «Not only is the latest addition to the Marvel canon lacking a true emotional core, it’s devoid of many key elements that make a movie successful in the translation from the screen to the audience’s psyche.» Valerie Complex at Deadline Hollywood Daily also took a shot at the superhero genre, writing, «‘Madame Web’ embodies the pitfalls of mainstream superhero cinema: films not driven by story and character but seemingly by studio mandates, and franchise considerations.»

On the topic of superhero movies and «Madame Web,» Nick Schager at The Daily Beast may very well have the last word: «On the basis of Madame Web, however, Sony’s «Spider-Man» Universe is now completely lifeless—and in no need of resuscitation.»

Reviews for «Madame Web» went public concurrently with this viral clip hitting the internet on February 13, the day before the film’s wide release. Early impressions of «Madame Web» were so negative that its critical score on Rotten Tomatoes dipped down to 17 percent based on more than 50 reviews. The reception to the clip of Madame Web gaining her superpowers, then, is clearly not some sort of anomaly but likely portends an altogether poor reception by the moviegoing public.

In another tweet mocking the viral clip, @PostCredPod, posted, «First clip from #MadameWeb truly defies belief, plays like a bad SNL sketch.»

Another one of the most popular reposts of the clip, meanwhile, is by @JADENMOVIES. His tweet amassed more than 29,000 likes and simply consists of 280 question marks, maxing out the X platform’s character limit. «They let a 7 year old into the editing bay,» he wrote in a follow-up tweet.

Maybe it’s true that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, and this clip is, at least, successful publicity for «Madame Web.» But based on just how harshly pretty much everyone to weigh in is mocking the footage, it’s hard to imagine a worse omen on the day before the movie premieres.

A ton of eyeballs were focused on «Deadpool & Wolverine» this past weekend. Nielsen says 123.7 million viewers watched Super Bowl LVII, making it the most-watched telecast of all time (via Variety). Seeing as the «Deadpool & Wolverine» trailer debuted right around kickoff time, it was likely one of the first things fans saw when they tuned in. The trailer’s success confirms two things: Audiences are starved for more Marvel content despite backlash to projects like «Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania» and «Secret Invasion,» and the MCU desperately needs marquee characters like Deadpool and Wolverine to generate interest. 

Marvel fans have patiently waited since Disney acquired 20th Century Studios to see their beloved X-Men characters join the MCU. While it remains to be seen how integral the «Deadpool» threequel is to the Multiverse Saga, it’s obvious Marvel is leaning heavily into the already established and revered characters. With Wolverine mentioned in the official title, it’s clear that Marvel is peddling this picture like «Spider-Man: No Way Home» and «Avengers: Endgame,» two franchise-defining crossovers. 

With so many viewers interested in «Deadpool & Wolverine,» it’s fair to say that the picture will be a box office success — something Marvel desperately needs after the mediocre runs «Ant-Man 3» and «The Marvels» posted in 2023. No Marvel film has grossed over $1 billion since 2021’s «No Way Home»… maybe «Deadpool & Wolverine» can finally return the studio to its glory days?

Fans — or at least, social media users — have been mildly obsessing over this ridiculous expositional line since the «Madame Web» trailer dropped in late 2023, to the point where one person on X (formerly known as Twitter) compared it to a similarly viral quote uttered by Gal Gadot in the «Death on the Nile» trailer. «Is ‘He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders just before she died’ the new ‘And enough champagne … to fill the Nile!’» @mycolefillups asked, only for @LouisPeitzman to report the terrible news: «No because it’s not even in the movie!» This announcement shocked the original poster, who simply responded, «WHAT?!!?!!»

In their review, user @Ethan_Anderton included this information after dunking on the movie. «#MadameWeb is downright awful,» they announced. «Boring, stupid, and just plain silly. It’s ‘Morbius’-level bad, and proves Sony has no idea what to do with the extensive gallery of Spider-Man characters. The infamous Amazon line isn’t even in the movie. Total waste.»

Elsewhere, @ZoeRoseBryant asked an important question, referencing some recent press involving star Dakota Johnson: «[D]o you think this interview was the reason they cut ‘[H]e was in the [A]mazon with my mom when she was researching spiders just before she died’ out of ‘Madame Web?’» Wait, which interview was that? 

When asked by Empire what he would like to do in a hypothetical Mace Windu Disney+ series, Samuel L. Jackson responded by saying, «EVERYTHING YES!!» While his words are brief, it’s clear that Jackson wants to return as the iconic Jedi. The character starring in a Disney+ series isn’t impossible, as Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) received his own solo show set between «Revenge of the Sith» and «A New Hope.» While it remains to be seen if Jackson ever returns as Windu, the enthusiasm is there, and fans would no doubt show up for the event series if it ever manifests. 

In his 2016 chat with EW, Jackson suggested that his character is simply laying low, just like Obi-Wan after the fall of the Jedi Order. When asked if he shared his views with «Star Wars» creator George Lucas, Jackson said yes. «But George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore,» he said, before revealing that the franchise creator was fine with his decision. «George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.’»

It would be interesting to see Jackson step into the shoes of Mace Windu once again. One can only imagine how exciting a Disney+ series centered on him would be. A miniseries set after the events of «Revenge of the Sith» showing Windu on a quest or as a wandering nomad would no doubt be a hit for the platform. But as of this writing, Disney+ doesn’t have a plan to bring Windu back, so «Star Wars» fans will just have to wait and see if Jackson’s hopes will ever be realized. 

When I saw the movie, your director S.J. Clarkson introduced the film and talked about the difficulty of finding the magic in your character’s powers in her opening remarks. They’re very internal and aren’t very active, so they were harder to get a grip on. So I was wondering, how did you go about deciding how to portray your character’s powers?

If it weren’t for all of the cool stuff that S.J. did with the camera, you probably wouldn’t know that Cassie was having a vision. Her powers really manifest in the edit, so it’s not something that’s CGI, it’s not something that’s performance-based. It’s really editing. And we had the most amazing editor on this film, Leigh [Folsom Boyd], and she’s extraordinary at her job. So it was really a matter of what we were able to film and then how she was able to cut it together to make it seem as though you’re seeing Cassie have a vision.
