So will «Anyone But You» get a sequel after its surprising success? Maybe, but as Tom Rothman says in the article, there could be another way to play off the success of «Anyone But You.» After saying they’d «consider» a sequel, Rothman continued, «But I think maybe the healthiest opportunity is another original starring the two of them.» Having Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell become the new Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks certainly isn’t a bad idea, but they’ll need more vehicles to show off their crackling chemistry.

That’s why the discussion is partly about the success of «Anyone But You» and, in a larger sense, more about the future of the studio romantic comedy.  After the genre experienced a huge boom in the 2000s, great studio rom-coms have become a thing of the past, with most rom-coms ending up attached to various streaming services without a proper theatrical release. So what does the team behind «Anyone But You» think?

Director Will Gluck, known for projects like «Easy A» and «Friends With Benefits,» had a pretty cynical view of the situation: «There’s one thing I know for certain: Nothing will be learned from this. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s not like, in six months get ready for a rom-com revolution every weekend. I still think people are a little hesitant to figure out why it worked.» Perhaps the secret is just that every romcom needs Powell and Sweeney flirting off-camera to keep audiences guessing.

«Deadpool & Wolverine» is set to be a major play for Marvel Studios, as it formally brings Fox’s batch of X-Men characters into the MCU. Thanks to Deadpool’s self-awareness and penchant for breaking the fourth wall, it’s probable that the character will poke fun at Marvel’s various efforts to expand its universe. The «Deadpool 3» trailer snuck in a Punisher connection with a twist and even featured the Time Variance Authority, teasing how integral the film is to the MCU’s future. With expectations sky-high, can audiences look forward to Spider-Man popping up in the threequel? 

Deadpool will probably end up referencing Spider-Man in the film, but no evidence suggests that any Peter Parker variant will appear. With «Deadpool & Wolverine» continuing to expand upon the Multiverse concept, the flick could tease Spidey’s future. All eyes are on Tom Holland’s «Spider-Man 4,» which reportedly has Sony and Marvel fighting over the film’s direction. Sony seems interested in bringing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back for Multiverse shenanigans, which would probably be popular with fans. It’ll be interesting to see what transpires in the MCU as the Multiverse Saga continues.  

During the final between 23-time Grand Slam women’s singles winner Serena Williams and 20-year-old rising star Naomi Osaka, chair umpire Carlos Ramos issued a code violation against Williams after apparently observing her coach, Patrick Mourataglou, sending a signal to Williams with his hands — an action that’s not allowed during the game. Williams vehemently contested the call, but still ended up losing in straight sets to Osaka in one of the biggest upsets in tennis history.

As «Challengers» screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes watched this, an idea sparked in his mind. «Immediately this struck me as this intensely cinematic situation where you’re all alone on your side of the court, and there’s this one other person in this massive tennis stadium who cares as much about what happens to you as you do,» he explained. «But you can’t talk to them.»

Seeing the drama unfold between Williams, Ramos, Osaka, and Mourataglou got Kuritzkes thinking about how an even more personal conflict might end up playing out on the court. The seething competitive, emotional, and erotic tension between tennis professionals Tashi, Art, and Patrick drives the narrative of «Challengers,» which flashes back and forth in time from the trio’s early days as high school players to 2019, 13 years later, when Art and Patrick — with Tashi subtly manipulating both — face off at a regional Challenger match that is loaded with beneath-the-surface implications for all three characters.

«For whatever reason, it just clicked in my mind, well, what if you really needed to talk about something?» Kuritzkes said. «And what if it was something beyond tennis? … what if it involved the person on the other side of the net? How would you have that conversation?»

«Challengers» opens in theaters this Friday (April 26).

While the Reddit leak of Harrison Ford’s potential Red Hulk turned out to be fake, another «Captain America 4» leak seemingly confirms Thunderbolt Ross’ red power upgrade. In a Spanish advertisement for upcoming McDonald’s toys, the main cast of «Captain America: Brave New World» can be seen as keychains. The toys include looks at Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Danny Ramirez as the Falcon, Shira Haas’ Sabra/Ruth, a character named Cascavel (speculated to be a fresh take on the villain Rachel Leighton/Diamondback and played by Rosa Salazar), and lastly, Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk. 

The Happy Meal toys don’t exactly give viewers an idea of what Ford might look like as Red Hulk on the big screen, as the keychain is very cartoonish-looking. However, the leak does appear to confirm Red Hulk, like Ford’s version of Ross, won’t have a mustache.

As the February 2025 release date for «Captain America: Brave New World» approaches, it’s important to take online rumors not confirmed by Marvel with a grain of salt. The fake leak shows that until you see something on the big screen, such as Ford’s Red Hulk, always be cautious about speculated characters and story elements unless the news comes from somewhere reputable or the source itself.

Fans of «Deadpool» movies might remember that this isn’t the first time the films have foot-themed fun at Rob Liefeld’s expense. In «Deadpool 2,» Deadpool finds it difficult to appreciate Domino’s (Zazie Beetz) luck-based powers, and since Domino also happens to be one of Liefield’s co-creations, the Merc with a Mouth immediately starts snarking about her power set sounding like someone with foot-drawing difficulties invented it.

As with «Deadpool & Wolverine,» Liefeld permitted Ryan Reynolds to use the joke. «Ryan calls me and says, ‘Rob, we have this joke, I wanna run it by you. Please share me your thoughts,’» the artist told Inverse. «I said, ‘Ryan, I absolutely love it.’»

According to director Shawn Levy, «Deadpool & Wolverine» is not what Marvel fans think, in that it’s not so much a «Deadpool 3» as it is its own thing. However, the return of Liefeld jokes is a pretty strong indicator that the movie fully intends to keep the «Deadpool» films’ irreverent spirit alive. 

Zack Snyder’s films have long had a unique relationship with Rotten Tomatoes. While films from early in his career like «Dawn of the Dead» (65% critics/77% audience), «300» (61%/71%), and «Watchmen» (65%/71%) performed solidity, there’s generally been a pretty significant discrepancy between how reviewers and viewers have scored his movies. For example, «Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice» was torched by critics with a 29% score, but audiences seemed to enjoy it much more with a 63% rating. «Man of Steel» has a nearly 20% higher audience score, with 56% registering positive reviews, compared to a 75% audience score. Even his previously worst-reviewed film before either installment of the «Rebel Moon» franchise, «Sucker Punch,» has a wide gap with its 22% critics score and 47% audience score.

Snyder’s «Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver» getting an abysmal critics’ score and a mixed-to-slightly-positive audience score starts a new and unfortunate trend for the franchise. According to Snyder, the universe’s story is intended to span six films, but it remains to be seen if Netflix will continue to fund more chapters of «Rebel Moon» given its weak critical reception. For those hoping to see more of the world of «Rebel Moon,» its future will likely depend on whether it posts strong streaming numbers and how well Zack Snyder’s director’s cuts — which are set to be three hours each — are received.

When «Pulp Fiction» was on its way down the production pipeline, Quentin Tarantino had only directed one other full-length feature: «Reservoir Dogs» from 1992. The feature centers on a group of thieves who plan and execute a heist, only for the whole plan to fall apart and for distrust to overtake them. The cast is absolutely stacked, with names like Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and Tim Roth in prominent roles. Right alongside them is Michael Madsen as Vic Vega, aka Mr. Blonde, who nearly became Vincent Vega only a couple of years later.

In the documentary «QT8: The First Eight,» which is dedicated to Tarantino’s first eight films, Madsen explained that he was first offered the Vega role in «Pulp Fiction.» Unfortunately, scheduling issues prevented him from starring. «I was already committed to ‘Wyatt Earp.’ And now, here’s Quentin, wants me to do ‘Pulp Fiction.’ And they were both going at the same time,» he said (via Entertainment Weekly). Thus, he had no choice but to turn the part down. Vic and Vincent were revealed to be brothers, and a spin-off focused on the two was long-rumored but never came to fruition.

In the end, John Travolta’s failing career was saved by «Pulp Fiction,» extending his time in the Hollywood spotlight. As for Madsen, he was able to take on roles in other Quentin Tarantino productions after «Pulp Fiction,» those being both «Kill Bill» movies, «The Hateful Eight,» and Tarantino’s self-proclaimed best movie, «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.» So, it’s fair to say both have done well for themselves all these years later.

Having stretchy powers has led to some jaw-dropping displays of body horror throughout Reed Richards’ time in the pages of Marvel Comics. In «Secret Invasion» #1 (by Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Yu, Mark Morales, Laura Martin, and Chris Eliopoulos), when Hank Pym reveals he is a Skrull in disguise, he uses a gun to turn Mister Fantastic’s body into goo, as it becomes stretched and twisted well beyond its usual human form. In «Fantastic Four» #2 (by Ryan North, Iban Coello, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Caramagna), Richards manipulates his physical form, pushing his eyeballs into his hands in one of his grossest shapeshifting moments.

Richards can also expand his body and make it a prison. In «Wolverine» #22 (Mark Millar, John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, Paul Mounts, and Eliopoulos), Mister Fantastic wraps the out-of-control hero inside himself, with his stretchy skin being so malleable Wolverine can’t stab through it. 

With the «Fantastic Four» coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will be curious to see how far Richards’ powers are pushed to show off what his body can be formed into. If the MCU wants to go the full horror route with his transformations, like what happened to John Krasinki’s Mister Fantastic being ripped into pieces by the Scarlet Witch in «Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,» Alex Ross’ cover could inspire something even grosser if the Fantastic Four runs into a villain trying to take a bite out of the team.

Chris Evans’ return as Johnny Storm might seem farfetched at first glance, considering he’s seemingly done with his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his arc as Captain America beautifully concluding in «Avengers: Endgame.» However, in a past interview with Josh Horowitz of MTV News, Evans, who loved being in the «Fantastic Four» films, was asked if he’d ever suit up in the role again. The actor did not oppose the idea.

«I would love it,» Evans told Horowitz in June 2022. «That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. Cap is so precious to me, and I almost don’t want to disrupt what a beautiful experience that was, but Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So I love that role, and who knows?»

A surprise appearance from Evans in «Deadpool & Wolverine» as Johnny Storm would be a lot of fun and wouldn’t be out of place considering the number of returning actors in the project. However, Evans’ A-list cameo would be the most stunning compared to the more minor characters set to appear in the film. If the upcoming movie wanted to go all out, Evans’ (and perhaps some of his «FF» castmates) return finally presents a chance to do the Human Torch justice in the MCU. Even if it’s just a tiny role, the actor’s rumored comeback adds considerable excitement to an already mega-hyped film.

During her press tour for «The Boy Next Door,» Jennifer Lopez sat down with now-disgraced talk show maven Ellen Degeneres to discuss the film; Degeneres, somewhat known for asking very personal questions, asked if there was anything «going on» between her and Ryan Guzman. While Lopez denied it, Degeneres also asked if Guzman had a girlfriend during filming. «I think he might? I’m not sure. I know he did…. I’m not in his business like that,» Lopez said at the time while also refusing to rule out that the two could eventually experience a romantic spark.

Meanwhile, Melanie Iglesias said, during her appearance on «No Chaser,» that she’s actually met Lopez before — and that their meeting was entirely weird. «What do you mean you don’t know if he had a girlfriend? We met,» Iglesias claimed. «You squeezed the s**t out of my hand. I’m still black and blue.»

Regarding their brief meeting, Iglesias alleged that the two met at an awards show and Lopez squeezed her hand very tightly to the point where it caused actual pain. «She met me, and she looked me up and down, and she gave me the hardest, firmest handshake in the world,» Iglesias recalled. «I was like, ‘Ow! I’ll have my hand back, Jesus.’»

Replacing artists with AI is a sore subject for many, especially as it was a major source of contention for both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023. Additionally, «Late Night with the Devil» became one of the most controversial movies of 2024 when it was revealed that the film features AI-generated artwork. «Civil War» is now controversial for more than one reason, and while people can debate the merits of the political machinations depicted in the movie, the AI posters are almost universally despised. 

People didn’t hold back their thoughts on X (formerly known as Twitter). @thebeckydodd hated seeing A24 descend to such artistically bankrupt depths, writing, «Super disappointing to see A24 whom I have always thought of as very artist friendly in terms of Hollywood utilizing AI generated posters for marketing Civil War…I truly had thought better of them.» For some, like @BEANS_IS_CANNED, the posters practically ruin what was otherwise a great movie. «Civil War is already as good as it is, hearing about it after the movie almost ruined it for me,» they remarked.

The posters are part of marketing, which means Alex Garland and others who actually worked on the movie probably had nothing to do with them. But it’s disappointing all the same, especially as «Civil War» is about the paramount importance of photojournalism and depicting truth in the world. These posters sully the reputation of what’s otherwise a thought-provoking film. A weird-looking swan is one thing, but it’s a slippery slope for studios wanting to use AI more prominently in movies beyond some promotional images. Studios should always hire real artists; they can afford it. 

Just like «Abigail» bared its teeth earlier than necessary in its trailers and why (according to The Independent) fans have felt that the latest preview for M. Night Shyamalan’s «Trap» has spoiled the twist already (a thing that happens in almost every M. Night Shyamalan movie), «Blink Twice» seems to be doing the same thing. Sure, there might be more twists and turns in the final product, but being knocked for a loop at the sudden absence of Shawkat’s character and her room being turned into spare storage would’ve certainly hit the mark in theaters. Instead, we’re left to anticipate having the rug pulled from under us when our feet are already stepping off the ground.

Hopefully, with the cast comprised of Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis, we might get so sucked into this world that we forget about this plot point. It would certainly be a testament to Kravitz’s capability, and, if good enough, could see her joining the list of many great actors who became directors. See for yourself when «Blink Twice» arrives in theaters on August 23.

In «Knocked Up,» Ben (Rogen) is a typical party-loving slacker who has a one-night stand with the career-focused Allison (Katherine Heigl). Their lives take a wild turn when Allison reveals that she’s pregnant, forcing the polar opposites to come together and put aside their differences to raise a child. The pic also stars comedic heavyweights Bill Hader, Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, and Leslie Mann in supporting roles. The success of «Knocked Up» compelled director Judd Apatow to tackle a sequel based on Rudd and Mann’s characters titled «This Is 40.» While that film wasn’t as favorably received, Apatow has a «This Is 40» sequel idea — there’s just one thing holding the filmmaker back. 

The success of «Knocked Up» propelled Rogen to superstardom, allowing him to headline some of the funniest and most prominent films from that era. In 2016, Rogen looked back on the film positively. «As I was watching it [recently, for the first time in years], I thought, f**k, we are so funny together, me and Katherine. And as we were making the movie, honestly I would make a dozen movies with her,» Rogen said on «The Howard Stern Show» (via E! News). 

Unfortunately, Heigl and Rogen never worked again, but the «Knocked Up» star continues to make strides, especially as a producer. The creative helped bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back to the big screen and is partially responsible for Prime Video’s «The Boys» — a show that continues to shock Rogen. 

According to Brian Helgeland, discussions about «A Knight’s Tale» sequel have been happening for quite some time. «When we finished ‘A Knight’s Tale,’ we were already thinking about making the sequel as a pirate film,» Helgeland told the outlet, detailing how the villainous Count Adhemar of Anjou (Rufus Sewell) would kidnap Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) … at which point they’re both captured by pirates. That said, Helgeland also revealed that two of his original «A Knight’s Tale» stars came up with a brilliant way to honor the late Heath Ledger, 

As Helgeland recalled, the idea focused on a possible daughter of Ledger’s jousting champion William Thatcher. «Paul Bettany called me after he had dinner with Alan Tudyk, and the guys had an idea that William had passed away during a war,» the director said. «However, William has a teenage daughter who wants to joust, but she’s not allowed to because she’s a woman. She tracks down the gang and they agree to teach her how to joust, but she has to hide who she is. They cut her hair short and she speaks with a deep voice, et cetera.» This is definitely a fascinating idea, but fans of the original film seem fairly split over whether or not they want a sequel.
