    December 3rd trend for couples is back in 2023

    For the unversed, the December 3rd trend came into being in 2020 and it has since been popularized on TikTok with a surge in participation.

    It is among the romantic challenges on the video-sharing platform and is synonymous with the song Heather owing to its lyrics.

    The opening line of the famous track reads: “I still remember, third of December.” and the song continues: “Me in your sweater, you said it looked better / On me, than it did you, only if you knew / How much I liked you.”

    The TikTok trend references the viral line from the song and sees people don their romantic partner’s sweaters or hoodies as a part of the challenge.

    It can also mark the beginning of a new relationship if you gift your crush a sweater as a present, given they are aware of the meaning of the gesture. Or, you can hope to receive a sweater from someone special too!

    Single people either love the challenge or dread it

    There are two kinds of people – those who have learned to focus on self-love on December 3rd and others, running away from it without looking back!

    But, 2023 is seeing many single people on TikTok focusing on themselves, even if it means they won’t be getting a sweater from their romantic interest.

    One TikTok user said they would be buying themself a sweater to keep up with the trend, while another said “it’s ok” that they are single on December 3rd.

    Others have resorted to making jokes about their single status on the romantic occasion as they are sure they won’t be receiving a sweater this year as well.

    One user said: “Me about to celebrate all the 2023 trends that remind you your loneliness is over and suddenly remembering about December 3rd.”

    “I’m preparing myself to not get a sweater December 3rd! I’m so single,” said another.

    Spotify Wrapped launches ‘Sound Town’

    Sound Town is a brand new feature for 2023 which “matches you to a city based on your listening and artist affinity”.

    During your highlight reel, Spotify shows a map of the country you live in with the title “My Sound Town” written at the top.

    A town or city is highlighted on the map which has been assigned to you based on your music habits over the past year.

    The location is selected using the musicians you have enjoyed. However, it’s not where the artists were born.

    Madison, Flagstaff and Provo

    Some of the most popular Spotify Wrapped Sound Towns people have received are Madison, WI, Provo, UT and Flagstaff, AZ.

    Each one has a description. For example, Madison says: “People there are more likely to be fans of The Amazing Devil, Hozier and Brian David Gilbert.”

    Provo adds “For fans of Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers and Lizzie McAlpine,” and Flagstaff says: “For fans of Orville Peck, Mitski and Over the Garden Wall.”

    However, these descriptions change for each Spotify user based on the artists they have listened to in 2023.

    Internet reacts to bizarre towns

    It’s not clear how or why the ‘Sound Towns’ are chosen – but people aren’t happy about the bizarre locations.

    One person wrote on Twitter/X: “The funniest Spotify Wrapped town to get is Provo. Like I’m so sorry for everyone who got that Spotify did u so dirty.”

    “Spotify Wrapped told me I belong in Flagstaff I’m never listening to music again,” said another.

    A third person added: “I got Madison, WI as my ‘Sound Town’… don’t text.”

    “If you didn’t get freaking provo, don’t talk to me about your Spotify wrapped being embarrassing,” someone else agreed.

    Listeners ask for extra statistics next year

    Users are urging Spotify to expand the statistics to the Top 10 next year as five just isn’t enough.

    One person wrote on Twitter/X: “Spotify should do a Top 10 Wrapped because there’s some artists that deserve further acknowledgements.”

    “Not gonna life Spotify y’all should show the Top 10 Artists and Top 10 Songs on the Wrapped next year,” said another.

    A third person agreed: “I think Spotify needs to do Top 10 Artists for Wrapped not Top 5.”

    “Spotify should really create a Top 10 Songs and Artists so I can fit all my top faves in my Wrapped next time,” someone else said.

    A woman has gone viral on TikTok for calling out The North Face after she got soaked on a hike in New Zealand while wearing one of their jackets.

    It claimed to be 100% waterproof on the label, but she was turned into a “drowned rat” – and North Face have responded in the most amazing way possible.

    In the viral video titled “North Face Fail,” the woman is hiking in the rainy mountains and says: “I’ve got a bone to pick with North Face.”

    “I bought this ‘rain jacket’ a couple days ago because the tag in the advertising said that it’s waterproof, as a rain jacket would be,” she explains.

    However, you can see in the clip that the coat clearly hasn’t done its job and the rain has completely soaked her through.

    “I’m 100% sure that it’s raining outside and I’m soaking wet,” she adds comedically. “I’m looking like a drowned rat.”

    The woman sarcastically asks the outdoor clothing company to redesign the coat so that it’s waterproof and send a new one to her.

    “Express deliver it up to the top of Hooker Valley Lake in New Zealand, where I will be waiting,” she jokes – but that’s exactly what North Face did!

    North Face delivers new jacket

    The fashion brand responded with their own hilarious video in which they did actually deliver her a new coat to the mountains.

    In the clip, an employee in New Zealand grabs a new coat from a North Face store and runs to a helicopter which takes him to the mountain.

    The TikTok user is waiting there and he runs over, throws her the jacket and returns to the helicopter with a thumbs up.

    “We were busy express delivering Jenn her jacket at the top of a mountain,” North Face wrote in the caption.

    ‘They understood the assignment’

    In the comments, people love North Face’s effort.

    One person wrote: “They saw an opportunity and absolutely smashed it.”

    Despite social media users’ reasoning, it is highly unlikely that Spotify Wrapped is “wrong” or showed “inaccurate” results as it calculates listening data based on your listening habit.

    While collecting your data for the yearly recap, Spotify considers streams when users have listened to a song for 30 seconds or more. Therefore, some tracks you have streamed a lot of times but for less than 30 seconds wouldn’t have made it to Wrapped.

    Furthermore, Spotify, which usually stops collecting data on October 31st starting January 1st, is believed to have extended its deadline. However, it isn’t clear when the app stopped collecting the data for 2023.

    What’s included in Spotify Wrapped

    Spotify Wrapped includes the top artists, songs, albums, and podcasts in addition to a set of new features to make the recap more exciting for its users.

    In the latest Wrapped, you can also find Me in 2023 – a feature that shows one streaming habit that defined your music listening and each card can be flipped to reveal a listening personality specific to your taste, such as Cyclops, Vampire, Fanatic, and more.

    Spotify wrapped has some strange genres

    The app has over 6000 genres and some are very different from the well-known ones like pop, rock, and more. Recently, there have been three genres that are getting a lot of attention on Twitter because it has been popping up on people’s 2023 wrapped.

    The first one is POV Indie. This genre is popular for its DIY aesthetic It is often linked with punk and indie rock scenes. Some famous singers who fall under this category include Cage The Elephant, Clairo, Heat Waves by Glass Animals, and more. The other genre that is gaining a lot of traction is Mellow Gold. This genre is a combination of soft rock and folk rock and usually consists of songs that give the feeling of going back to the 60s, 70s, or 80s.

    Some artists who would fall under this category include Carole King, James Taylor, Don McLean, and more. Lastly, the Adults Standard genre has managed to confuse people the most. This genre is usually categorized as mature songs. Some artists in this genre are Frankie Avalon, Natalie Cole, Bobby Vinton, and more.

    Other genres that are confusing

    These are not the only confusing genres that Spotify has. The app also has a genre called Shoegaze, which is a “subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals and guitar distortion.”

    There is also a genre called Meme Rap which includes songs that are involved in a meme. A popular example of this would be Moodsings by Brayke.

    Many people would also enjoy the Social Media Pop genre which, as the name suggests, includes songs that are instant hits on social media.

    Man spots strange creature in ocean

    In the viral video, a guy is standing on a wooden structure on the beach and zooming into the ocean where the waves are breaking.

    A long black thing is floating on top of the water that looks an ordinary bit like a huge piece of wood or metal at first.

    However, a snake-like hump then emerges out of the water and quickly retracts back underneath the shore.

    “Can anyone explain what this is?” the TikTok user Gavin Cox wrote in the caption with two mind blown emojis. “I found Nessy.”

    ‘It’s the Loch Ness Monster’

    By “Nessy,” he is referring to the Loch Ness Monster, a famous mythical creature from old Scottish folklore.

    It’s said to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands and is described as large and long-necked with one or more humps protruding from the water.

    In the comments, people are in agreement that it looks like the creature, with one person writing: “That’s the Loch Ness Monster.”

    “The Loch Ness Monster has moved from lakes to the ocean,” said another.

    A third person added: “Nessie! Nessie! Nessie!”

    Some say it’s an oarfish

    Others say it’s an oarfish, but many aren’t convinced as the creature looks far too big and the species doesn’t often come to the surface.

    Someone commented: “It’s a doomsday fish aka oarfish. They live super deep in the ocean and only surface to die.”

    “If that’s an oarfish that’s the biggest oarfish ever recorded,” another argued.

    Apple Music fans can already see their yearly wrap-up of music habits as the app rolls out Apple Music Replay 2023. 

    The end-of-year wrap-up is a big deal to music streamers online. The joy of being in someone’s top percentage of listeners, sharing your most-played songs to Instagram, and seeing what embarrassing tracks others simply couldn’t hide from theirs. 

    This year, Apple has rolled out its end-of-year Replay again – but regular fans will know that it doesn’t just come during the holiday season.

    How to get the Apple Music Replay 2023

    Apple Music’s Replay feature is still almost entirely web-based, instead of through the app like other streaming services.

    To see yours, click on the Apple Music app and then select the Listen Now tab. When you tap ‘Replay’ under the Check Your Progress section, the app will take you to the Apple Music Replay website. 

    When you log in to your Apple ID as instructed, you’ll gain access to all your yearly insights via the Highlight Reel feature. You can then choose to Explore Your Dashboard in order to find out some more in-depth stats and information about it including time spent listening to artists, most played songs, and more.

    When does Apple Music Replay stop counting?

    Avid users of Apple Music may already know that Replay isn’t a seasonal feature and actually works all year round. Seemingly though, during the Christmas season, Apple sends users notifications encouraging them to check it out.

    According to the Apple forum results, Apple Music’s Replay feature updates weekly, meaning that your Replay for this week might be different than the last week of the year. This means, however, that your Apple Music Replay might be slightly more accurate to the full year, seeing as it doesn’t stop counting until the very end of the year, rather than just once.

    Some reports also suggest that Apple Music users receive interactive photos and gifs during their Replays during the holiday season, which aren’t available throughout the rest of the year.

    Online, some users suggest that the Replay feature pauses at the start of the year, in order to give the app time to gain enough information to begin providing insights.

    Spotify users will have to wait a little longer

    Although Apple Music users can get their latest update all year round, Spotify fans are eagerly awaiting the Instagrammable wrap-up of their listening habits.

    Spotify’s Wrapped has become somewhat of a cultural icon in recent years and sees social media be taken over by charts and playlists.

    Keeper B Nagesh Babu had cared for the 15-year-old bear for over two years at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, also known as the Vizag Zoo.

    23-year-old animal keeper Nagesh Babu was mauled to death on Monday after being attacked by Jihwan the bear, who is reported to be around 15 years old. The keeper was found lying unconscious by another member of staff, with serious injured on his head, arms and chest.

    Officials at the zoo told local media that the keeper appeared to have left the night house doors open while inside it, allowing the bear to get inside at the same time.

    “Nagesh had left all the doors open in the animal night house and gone inside to clean, following which the animal came into the night house and attacked the keeper,” said Vizag Zoo curator Nandani Salaria in a press release.

    According to reports, it’s zoo protocol to close and lock all doors once opened. When Babu was found,  all four doors were opened and a broken drainage pipe was found too. It’s believed he may have used the pipe to intimidate the bear during the attack.

    The keeper was found by another member of staff

    At around 10:30 am, the veterinary assistant surgeon asked a security guard at the zoo to fetch Nagesh Babu. When the security guard called for him at the bear section, he received no response, causing suspicions.

    The guard soon checked the night house. Upon seeing that the bear was outside of the night house, the guard suspected it may have killed the keeper and immediately left to fetch higher help.

    A team of staff members at the zoo tranquilised and bear and lured the black bear inside with honey.  The keeper’s body was soon found in the night house.

    “The bear must have entered into the shelter from the day kraal and attacked the animal keeper before coming outside.” curator Nandini Salaria told The New Indian Express.

    A similar incident occurred in the U.S. last year

    Last year, a zookeeper in Jacksonville was attacked by a North American black bear, causing lacerations on her head, back and thighs. 

    Similarly, it was reported that the door to the bear enclosure was opened when the attack occurred.

    Tastemakers in the AI industry, Runway AI launched its latest XX in March 2023 and allows users to create four-second-long videos from a prompt, either completely from scratch or by altering an added image. Mainly, the AI videos appeared like a camera panning around.

    In August, the videos were extended to 18 seconds. An update in September, titled ‘Director Mode’ allowed users to select the direction and speed of the camera movement in the videos.

    Runway AI is available for anyone to use online and offers a free trail to new users. 

    Filmmakers have been impressed by the latest Motion Brush feature

    A new update on November 20 has allowed users to take their AI film-making to an insane level, with the motion brush feature. The feature lets users highlight an object in an image and add motion to only that part, selecting a direction and intensity too.

    “Today we’re releasing new features and updates to provide more control, greater fidelity and even more expressiveness when using Runway,” shared the company on X. 

    The feature has been praised by AI video creators for its accurate results, adding movement to objects and people instead of the entire image. Creators say it’s an impressive step in using AI for storytelling purposes. 

    “This marks the beginning of something really exciting for everyone with storytelling skills and needs,” shared tech journalist Barsee on X.

    Dan Howell found internet fame in the early 2010s as part of a popular YouTuber duo with Phil Lester. In 2019, Howell came out as gay, but his relationship with Lesster remains ambiguous. 

    His latest Twitter post has set fans talking after posing in a rather surprising outfit.

    Dan Howell’s latest X post has sparked attention

    Posting to X yesterday, November 27, Dan Howell promoted his merchandise online with a unique method.

    Howell posed with a grey jumper from The Dan and Phil Shop, printed with an illustration of Dan and Phil. In this particular jumper, however, Dan and Phil were illustrated as ‘catboys’ with the text ‘Legalise Catboys’.

    With the jumper, Howell paired…not much. The YouTuber seemingly wore no pants with the jumper, along with a cat choker.

    The jumper is sold through the YouTuber duo’s merch store and costs $33. The artwork is by digital artist Usagi. 

    In less than one day, Dan Howell’s X post has gained over 5 million impressions and 8,000 quote retweets.  

    The meaning of catboys

    Catboys and catgirls are popular in Japanese fiction and fandoms and feature humans with cat features or accessories, like ears and tails. Often, the catboy will se seen wearing a maid outfit with knee-high stockings. In online fandoms, celebrities and characters are often depicted as catboyws in fanart, editing their favorite celebrity with ears and tails along with the infamous maid outfit.

    Although catboys aren’t always innately sexual they often can be sexualized and portrayed in a kink-like fashion. “Often depicted wearing a maid outfit and knee-high stockings, the catboy is sexualized and submissive, gender non-conforming and comforting” reports Dazed Magazine. 

    “The presence of catboys in the online canon is nothing new. With roots in anime culture, they’ve been a fixture on 4chan and messaging boards since the early days of the internet.

    Reactions to Dan Howell’s X photo

    Fans of the YouTuber were shocked to see Dan Howell’s latest Twitter post and the merch, after being surprised by what they saw. Many took to their own accounts to share memes in response.

    “Daniel, my mother follows you????” joked one user.

    “If you told me Dan Howell was going to be posting about catboys back in 2015, I would not have believed you,” added another.

    One user joked that they’d accidentally opened the photo on their screen in public. “Oh my god, not me accidentally opening Dan Howell catboy picture at work,” they wrote.

    ‘Scariest flight in aviation’

    The clip was posted by a TikTok account called Flight Everyday which uses a flight simulator to show different routes across the world.

    “One of the scariest flights in aviation. 14 hours of flight over the ocean, passing close to Antarctica,” the description says.

    The viral video shows a Boeing 787 flying straight down over South America before making a left and flying across the Pacific Ocean.

    It takes 14 hours and 20 minutes and flies close to Antarctica. However, it’s surprisingly not the longest direct flight in the world.

    New York to Singapore takes the top spot at a whopping 18 hours and 40 minutes, which is flown by Singapore Airlines.

    “This is one of the most facinating routes in aviaton,” the video adds. “Would you have the courage?”

    Thousands of miles from land

    TikTok users think the flight is a little scary as there are no major airports nearby to land in case of an emergency.

    One person wrote: “In the case of an emergency there’s no place for a jet to land.”

    “What happens if they got an engine failure or declare a mayday? They are too far from land and no airport nearby,” said another.

    A third person agreed: “The scary part is that in case of emergency your nearest airport is nowhere.”

    “The lack of opportunities for an emergency landing is scary,” someone else said.

    Emergency landing is possible

    However, while there are no major cities or airports nearby, but there are many opportunities for an aircraft to land in an emergency.

    There are a number of remote islands scattered across the Pacific Ocean which can be used during engine failure.

    Plus, planes can land on water too. This is called ditching, which is a controlled emergency landing on water in an aircraft not designed for the purpose.

    In December 2022, a plane load of passengers going from Los Angeles to Sydney landed on an island called American Samoa.

    The US territory has a population of around 50,000 and the plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine issue.

    TikTok’s Dear and Darling embroiled in controversy

    Dear and Darling’s content creators took to their TikTok account yesterday to address the accusation of family vlogging against them by KC Davis on her personal account @domesticblisters.

    Lilly and Paul were prompted to respond after newspapers and other media outlets reached out to them for comments when the controversy blew up. For the unversed, in one of her videos Davis spoke against the practice of family vlogging, as it involves filming children for the sake of content.

    Without naming the Dear and Darling stars, Davis features one of Lilly’s videos with her husband’s brainstorming spreadsheet on it, depicting video ideas for the day. The author says she personally counted the tasks mentioned on the sheet and counted as many as 40.

    This led the content creator to believe the couple had planned on filming their children during their vacation at Disneyland, which Lilly says couldn’t have been “further from the truth”.

    Davis argues family vlogging is unethical, regardless of the number of videos the children are a part of. In a video shared on her account following Lily’s response, the author has addressed “hate comments” directed at her for trying to “ruin” Dear and Darling’s reputation.

    Davis defended herself by saying it doesn’t matter whether the content creators consider themselves family vloggers or not, but the mere fact that they “made the decision to make a list of how they are going to film their children for content while they are in vacation” is found to be problematic by the author.

    Lilly responds to KC Davis’s spreadsheet accusation

    Lilly denied the accusation by saying that anybody who is aware of their content “knows that they are not family vloggers.”

    The Dear and Darling’s content creators have denied that they film their children for content during holidays, most of which are in Disneyland as the couple is into Disneybouding – a cosplay inspired by specific fictional characters without the actual costume.

    Lilly said their channel is predominantly about her and occasionally her children participate in the videos too, “which is rare.”

    “Just to paint a picture of how rare, before the last family trip, out of the 250 videos we’ve done, only 14 included our children,” explained the TikTok creator.

    Even if her children were depicted in the videos, Lilly says it only showed slices of their lives as they were seen in the background. She argues the TikTok channel would be unaffected if all the videos featuring their children were taken down, because the children aren’t the focus.

    The content creator said her six children make their own decisions, even with respect to the costumes they choose to wear while on the trip, and they volunteer to be filmed in some instances.

    While addressing the issue with the spreadsheet, Lilly claimed she suffers from ADHD and depression, so the spreadsheet was created by Paul to help her organize her tasks, which she finds difficult to do on her own as they “don’t come easy to her.”

    Wrapped offers statistics on your music streaming habits, such as your most-liked songs, artists, albums, and more. Ahead of its release in 2023, users are predicting their own Wrapped to find out their favorite artists, genres, and songs among other factors associated with the music they streamed on Spotify.

    TikTok and X/Twitter users are circulating posts showing their 2023 Wrapped prediction and the results are quite interesting!

    Unlike the actual feature which uses real data to highlight your streaming habits for the past year, fans are simply considering the artists they listened to the most in 2023 to create a tentative Wrapped.

    ‘Predicting your Spotify Wrapped’ has developed fully into a trend that users are hopping on while awaiting its official release. You can also predict your friends or family members’ Wrapped if you’re familiar with their taste in music.

    Whereas, the actual Wrapped by Spotify includes additional features that analyze your listening habits in detail; the Listening personality being one of the highlights in 2022.

    Spotify Wrapped rumored to release soon

    Users are anticipating 2023 Wrapped to drop anytime soon owing to its release date in the past two years.

    While Wrapped 2021 was released on December 1, fans got to enjoy the feature a day earlier on November 30, 2022.

    Rumors hold, that 2023 Wrapped will arrive in a matter of days as the current month is almost over, while the app hasn’t made any official announcement.

    However, there are plenty of third-party websites that offer experiences similar to Wrapped by studying your data from Spotify.
