The very beginning of «Howard the Duck» shows precisely what kind of movie it will be. Any parents who brought their children to the PG-rated Marvel film were likely horrified to see Howard sitting in his apartment and pulling out a Playduck magazine (a riff on Playboy if you didn’t catch that subtle nod), opening it up to reveal a topless duck lady. Not even one minute later, Howard’s chair launches out of his apartment and into the bathtub of a duck woman, who has human-esque breasts exposed as she takes a bath. The chair sends Howard into space, where he eventually arrives on Earth, but the film sees fit to show what it would be like if ducks had boobs.
It’s exceptionally off-putting with the attention to detail on display, as the breasts come complete with nipples. How many innocent children walked into a theater in 1986 only to see duck boobs? One has to imagine that for quite a few kids, that was the first time they saw boobs ever … and it was on a duck. That had to have raised some questions at home. Surely, there’s a story of parents who had to give their child «the talk» because they suddenly seemed too into duck anatomy. Where is that person’s story?
The nudity in «Howard the Duck» is needless and gratuitous, which, to be fair, is par the course for the ’80s. The standards for PG films were laxer back then, but still, it’s plain odd and feels like it should’ve been cut to avoid wrecking a generation of moviegoers.
It probably isn’t likely that «Madame Web» is part of the Raimi-Verse. For starters, «Madame Web» takes place in 2003. Sam Raimi’s first «Spider-Man» movie came out in 2022, so Tobey Maguire’s version of the web-slinger should be fully powered and swinging around town during the events of «Madame Web.» Additionally, Ben (Adam Scott) and Mary Parker (Emma Roberts) are in the movie, with the latter giving birth to a boy who’s presumably Peter Parker at the film’s end. Granted, Mary never actually says her baby’s name is «Peter,» so these could be completely different people with the same names. It’s just not very feasible that «Madame Web» is precisely in the same universe.
With the Multiverse now mandatory across any superhero franchise, it’s always possible Madame Web could wind up in another universe if she wanted, including Raimi’s series, but the safest bet at this time is that Sony simply reused a shot. The studio did it before with a project that had nothing to do with «Spider-Man.» The trailer for the 2017 film, «Life,» starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds, had a shot pulled from a scene in «Spider-Man 3.» It appears Sony simply likes recycling footage where it can.
All this talk of the Raimi-Verse likely just makes fans hope even harder that «Spider-Man 4» with Maguire comes to fruition. After all, Maguire’s Peter Parker is now familiar with the Multiverse thanks to «Spider-Man: No Way Home,» so maybe he’ll wind up in the universe of «Madame Web» at some point.
As with many of his films, Mel Brooks not only directed and co-wrote «Blazing Saddles,» but gave himself some appearances in the movie, as well. Among these parts is that of Governor William Le Petomane, Rock Ridge’s dim-witted government official who is convinced by Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman) to bring Bart in as the town’s sheriff. Later — in a role you definitely wouldn’t see nowadays — he appears as a Yiddish-speaking Native American chief who spares Bart and his family from a Sioux attack in a flashback scene.
«Blazing Saddles» would be Brooks’ third directorial effort and his biggest box office success at the time. Following in the trailblazing satire’s footsteps would be other fan-favorite parodies, such as «Young Frankenstein,» «Silent Movie,» «Spaceballs,» and «Robin Hood: Men in Tights.» Following the disappointing reception of 1995’s «Dracula: Dead and Loving It,» Brooks’ creative energy has been put into producing plays based on his movies and voice acting in numerous projects, including «Robots,» «Mr. Peabody and Sherman,» and the «Hotel Transylvania» franchise. Whatever happens with Stitch, fans of the beloved Disney classic should know that it’s in good hands. The live-action remake is being directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who brought the live-action-animation hybrid «Marcel the Shell with Shoes On» to the big screen back in 2021. The indie darling emerged as a critical juggernaut and led to many, many tears, making Fleischer Camp one of the best directors to introduce «Lilo & Stitch» to a new generation.

Chris Sanders, who previously voiced Stitch, has been brought back to voice the character in live action. Other actors in the picture include newcomer Maia Kealoha, who has been cast as Lilo; Zach Galifianakis, who will voice the devious Dr. Jumba; and Billy Magnussen, who will voice the goofy Agent Pleakley.
«Lilo & Stitch» is currently slated to hit Disney+, though that could change as the corp changes its release strategy, putting greater emphasis on theatrical projects. Just recently, Disney gave a major release update on «Moana 2,» announcing it would premiere in theaters after it was initially supposed to be a Disney+ series.

More recently, rumors spread that Maul was set to play a part in the 2022 Disney+ series «Obi-Wan Kenobi,» with further hearsay even indicating that Park was actively preparing for a return. The show reportedly would have seen Maul on the hunt for Obi-Wan and a young Luke Skywalker, resulting in a rematch between Sith and Jedi. However, there were concerns that the series was shaping up to mirror «The Mandalorian» too closely and more focus was put on Darth Vader as a result. Contradictory statements exist as to Park’s involvement; some say progress went as far as to include test footage while others have denied Maul’s comeback completely.

As brutal as it might be to say, Alan Ritchson proved Tom Cruise was the worse Jack Reacher between the two. Even so, unlike its predecessors, a third movie in the series could’ve gained an audience if it had been stamped with an R-rating.
In an interview with Empire, Cruise’s regular film-making buddy, Christopher McQuarrie, revealed that he had plans for the theoretical «Jack Reacher 3» to get a hard R. «Tom and I were talking about, had the series continued, to take Reacher to a place where, in the post-‘Deadpool,’ post-‘Joker’ world, ‘Reacher’ could have been an R-rated movie and an R-rated franchise and really fed into the brutality of those books,» he said. «We were fully ready to lean into that.»
Of course, this threequel never happened, and instead, the torch was passed to Ritchson, who is set to return for Season 3 of «Reacher.» Regarding Cruise’s version, McQuarrie said, «It’s a very un-Tom character, and we have plans for an even more un-Tom character that we’ve been talking about, which I’m hopeful about in the future.»
While this may have been a plan in motion in 2020, there might still be a chance that the other «un-Tom» character could make an appearance eventually now that the star has signed his massive deal with Warner Bros. Sure, his Jack Reacher might not be one of them, but perhaps without Cruise’s version, we would’ve never got the one we have now.
As shown in the «Obi-Wan Kenobi» show and mentioned by Rick McCallum, Obi-Wan fully believes he’s killed Anakin after their duel on Mustafar. He severs his legs and leaves his body burning in lava. Just watching the film, it’s easy to assume that Obi-Wan simply doesn’t have the stomach to strike him down when he’s so helpless and pitiful, but that’s not necessarily the case.
In the novelization of «Revenge of the Sith,» which isn’t technically canon anymore, Obi-Wan actually thinks that putting Anakin out of his misery would be too merciful. It also suggests that he detects Darth Sidious’ approach and decides to leave Mustafar quickly, fearing that lingering even a moment longer could put him in danger. He never suspects that Anakin’s rage and Palaptine’s dark side powers could be enough to keep him alive. The cyborg wraith that rises from the (literal) ashes is beyond what Obi-Wan could have anticipated in the moment.
Nightsister magic remains something of an enigma in the «Star Wars» universe. It’s clearly connected to the dark side of the Force, but it’s also distinctly different from the power channeled by the Sith. In most cases, Nightsister magic releases a green hue, be it during incantations or more active spells. It can even be used to revive the dead in a zombified form, as seen in shows like «Ahsoka» and «Star Wars Rebels.»
As one might expect, Nightsister Force lightning is also green, giving it a unique look, though its effect is largely the same as the base variety. Mother Talzin, one-time leader of the Nightsisters on Dathomir, uses this technique in «Star Wars: The Clone Wars,» though she also claims not to be a «natural Force wielder» in that same show.
For years, it was thought that Dathomir itself had something to do with the unique dark Force powers of the Nightsisters. Regardless, the green tint is pretty cool.
Fans who commented under the slideshow called out some of their favorites, like the Austrian, Greek, Nigerian, Norwegian, Polish, or Welsh Thanos. But other iterations stand out for all the wrong reasons. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) would’ve had a field day making fun of Belgian Thanos’ bowler hat and slightly misshapen waffle. Apparently, using the power of the Infinity Stones works up such an appetite that the Mad Titan has to carry something around with him at all times.
There’s also the matter of the Bosnian Thanos. Not only is his Infinity Gauntlet missing one of the stones, but he also has a gun. Sure, it makes sense that he would want to be covered for any possibility, but why would he need a gun if he has even just one Infinity Stone? It’s enough to make you not realize that the flag behind him actually looks more like Kosovo’s. Meanwhile, the Brazilian Thanos looks like he’s ready to play in the World Cup with a soccer ball in hand.
That leads us to the Argentinian Thanos. Most of the other creations see him in a new outfit, usually in the colors of the flag of whatever country he’s supposed to be from. However, this Thanos is wearing his usual clothing and standing next to a man in an Argentinian scarf and sunglasses who may or may not be Lionel Messi. Maybe this version of Thanos learned he didn’t need to wipe out half of all life; maybe the real treasure was the friends he made along the way.

According to rumors, Marvel intends for the Fantastic Four to battle Galactus — a cosmic being who devours planets — in their introductory film, which means that they will face the Silver Surfer — Galactus’ mighty herald — as well. Reports suggest that Javier Bardem will play Galactus, that Marvel is seeking an actor to portray the Silver Surfer, and that Doctor Doom will be relegated to a brief cameo.
Doctor Doom could very easily be the next Big Bad of the MCU. If «Avengers: Secret Wars» adheres to its source material, then he will steal godhood and single-handedly combat some of the most powerful heroes on Marvel’s roster. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will take its time casting «the great unread» villain because, even with «Deadpool 3» promising a better future, the MCU desperately needs a long-term win.
Ever since it was revealed in 2014’s «Captain America: The Winter Soldier» that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been infiltrated by HYDRA agents, the organization hasn’t been a prominent force in the MCU. While it continues operating after «The Winter Soldier» as a much smaller organization in «Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,» fans have reasons to believe that ABC series isn’t canon within the MCU anymore. Either way, S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t yet reemerged as the same formidable force it was when the MCU began.
In its place, the franchise has added several similar organizations to its fictional universe, including the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, aka S.W.O.R.D., which was founded by Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). In 2021, «Loki» Season 1 also introduced viewers to the Time Variance Authority, aka the TVA, a powerful organization that oversees and maintains the stability of the entire multiverse.
In recent years, agencies like S.W.O.R.D., the TVA, and even the Department of Damage Control have all taken on more prominent roles than S.H.I.E.L.D. in the MCU. That doesn’t make S.H.I.E.L.D.’s role in the creation of the franchise any less important, but its continued obsolescence to the current state of the MCU just makes it easier and easier for viewers to forget what its name actually stands for.
If there’s anyone who could convince the team at Laika to produce a «Coraline» sequel, it would be Neil Gaiman. Having originated the concept with his acclaimed 2002 dark fantasy novel, the author could potentially make lightning strike twice by penning a follow-up. That is, however, if he has any ideas.
For years, Gaiman has shut down rumors and demands from fans for a sequel, often stating that he doesn’t feel confident making a new installment unless he can top its predecessor. In a 2022 interview with ComicBook, the «Sandman» and «Stardust» author elaborated on his position. «What I’ve always said is that I wouldn’t do a ‘Coraline 2’ unless I could come up with a story that was as good as ‘Coraline 1.’ And so far I haven’t come up with [anything] … Actually, as good or better because you don’t want to do one of those sequels that sort of feels like a made-for-video sequel.»
But even then, he doesn’t shut down the possibility of a follow-up coming to fruition, so long as it’s made with the same affection he put in his original book. «If you’re gonna do something, it needs to be a ‘Toy Story 2’ or ‘The Godfather Part 2’ level sequel where you’re actually upping your game,» the writer continued. «So I absolutely wouldn’t rule it out, but would absolutely want to go, ‘Okay, that is the thing that is just even cooler than Coraline.’»
Fans may be bummed that a «Coraline» sequel has yet to see the light of day, but it’s perhaps even better that its creators don’t want to tarnish the original’s rich legacy.
In addition to Charles Xavier heading up the team, it just so happens that the mutant gene shared by all X-Men is the X-Gene, which is the source of their various powers. On top of that, the government’s secret Weapon X program has birthed the likes of Wolverine and Deadpool. The X-Cutioner is a Marvel villain who hunts mutants. The list goes on and on.
The reasoning behind the X-Men’s title has changed over the decades. In the 2000 movie, for example, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X says that his students chose the name themselves. But while the inspiration for the name can shift from writer to writer, its true origin was laid out in 1963. The popularity of the «X-Men» series is likely what retroactively led to the letter «X» popping up all across the Marvel Comics universe. Things like the Weapon X Program — and, by extension, Wolverine — arguably wouldn’t exist without the team’s title. And it all was because Professor X was having some fun with wordplay.
It’s one thing for audiences to turn on a movie, but it’s another for its lead star to subtly point out just how disappointing their latest effort is. As press junkets for «Madame Web» went underway, Dakota Johnson didn’t shy away from being brutally honest about the current state of the film industry, strategically throwing jabs at the superhero pic. While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, she discussed how working with the film’s use of blue screen was jarring. «[…] there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion,» she said, calling it «absolutely psychotic.» The actress continued by casting doubt on the overall product, saying, «I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!’»
When it came time to perform her opening monologue on «Saturday Night Live,» Johnson labeled «Madame Web» described the film as «if AI created your boyfriend’s favorite movie» when discussing Sydney Sweeney’s inclusion. Johnson isn’t outright mocking her film, but she’s definitely having fun by expressing her frustrations, which was immediately noticed by social media.
If we speculate, there’s reason to believe Johnson isn’t interested in the film at all. Variety says that Johnson ditched her agency days after the film’s first trailer debuted, a move that the outlet said «raised industry eyebrows.» And while speaking with Planet Radio (via Games Radar), Johnson revealed that she hadn’t watched the film, and didn’t plan to any time soon, postponing her viewing to «someday.» Did Johnson’s comments impact the film’s box office? That’s hard to say. But they did blend into the overall conversation and reception of the picture.
