It’s already apparent that multiverse hopping is a part of «Deadpool & Wolverine» to some extent given the prominence of the TVA in the first trailer, which fans of «Loki» know is the organization responsible for maintaining multiversal peace. The notion that there will be at least two versions of Deadpool is also supported by the fact that, in the trailer’s opening scene at Deadpool’s apartment, Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) is alive and well despite dying in «Deadpool 2,» implying that the scene is taking place in an alternate universe.

In their Reddit post, u/PecanCherry suggested that their hypothetically evil version of Deadpool might be working for Cassandra Nova, who’s more-or-less a villainous version of X-Men leader Professor X. Her emergence in the MCU, meanwhile, has a basis in «Loki» too. «Cassandra, Pyro, and the 20th Century Fox logo are in region of the Void from the Loki series where variants related to X-Men timelines get dumped (which may be why it looks deserty instead of grassy),» they proposed.

Whether or not there’s ultimately an evil Deadpool in «Deadpool 3,» plenty of plot elements are already in place to give rise to such a possibility, lending more credence to this theory than we might offer to typical fan speculation.

Even with a relatively modest budget of $80 million, «Madame Web» is looking to bomb big time at the box office. It follows a concerning trend with recent superhero movies underperforming. «The Marvels,» which is explicitly set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, grossed far less money than its predecessors. DC Films had an even worse 2023, with «Shazam! Fury of the Gods,» «The Flash,» «Blue Beetle,» and «Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom» bringing about a disappointing end to the old reign of the DC Universe. 

A general sense of superhero fatigue isn’t helping «Madame Web,» which is further exacerbated by extremely negative reviews. The film currently sits at a 13% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This puts it in a similar company to 2015’s «Fant4stic,» which sits at 9% on the same platform. It seems audiences are simply getting tired of the same old stories, and if it’s downright terrible, it’s easy for viewers to ignore it entirely.

It’s hard to paint «Madame Web» as anything other than a colossal failure. It’s bad enough on its own but also representative of where the superhero genre is at this point. As one industry insider told The Hollywood Reporter regarding «Madame Web,» «We are in transition when it comes to superhero movies. I don’t know how big that transition is or what the other side looks like.» Whatever’s on the other side, it’s a safe bet Cassie Webb isn’t going to be a part of it, at least for a while.

In January, it was reported that Sony wants two huge actors in «Spider-Man 4,» but Marvel Studios has other ideas that don’t align with that vision. Following the success of «Spider-Man: No Way Home,» the former wants Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to join Tom Holland as their respective versions of the friendly neighborhood superhero. Marvel, meanwhile, would like a more grounded movie that eschews multiversal madness in favor of returning to Spidey’s roots in the New York City suburbs.

However, the multiverse could factor into «Spider-Man 4» after all. The Daniel Richtman report states that the fourth installment may include Miles Morales. Additionally, Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to play Spider-Man Noir, a character he voiced in Sony’s animated feature «Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.»

The possible inclusion of multiple iterations of the titular superhero implies that «Spider-Man 4» will be ambitious and massive in scope instead of the street-level blockbuster that Feige is believed to want. However, it’s still too early to tell what’s happening, as neither party has announced official updates.

Mike Flanagan fans noticed the post and left comments praising the filmmaker’s incredible review. User Zachary Gerrity noted, «Man I gotta check tags more often lmao,» while Katie297 simply agreed with Flanagan: «This is so real.» Sigma Lynchian Succession Kinophile was especially effusive, writing, «Amazing, I loved every word, Mike. I just webbed all over the future.»

If you need a refresher, Flanagan is much more than a clever Letterboxd reviewer — he’s one of the most in-demand horror directors working today. After starting with acclaimed projects like «Oculus,» «Hush,» and «Ouija: Origin of Evil,» he took on his first high-profile horror adaptation with «Gerald’s Game.» Released on Netflix in 2019, it was praised by original author Stephen King for being accurately horrifying. His takes on horror classics «The Haunting of Hill House,» «The Haunting of Bly Manor,» and «The Fall of the House of Usher» are beloved by fans and critics. He also found time to work on another King adaptation in 2019’s sequel to «The Shining,» «Doctor Sleep.» As of this writing, Flanagan is crafting an adaptation of King’s novella «The Life of Chuck,» with Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill set to star. 

«Smallville» isn’t the only time Alan Ritchson played a comic book character. He portrayed Raphael in two live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, and he was the heroic vigilante Hank Hall, aka Hawk, on «Titans.» Even with all that, fans want to see the actor don an iconic mask by being the new Batman in James Gunn’s upcoming rebooted DC Universe. Someone will have to play the Caped Crusader in «The Brave and the Bold,» and Ritchson has already talked about replacing Ben Affleck as the new Batman. 

The topic was raised on the «Post-Credit Podcast.» The actor couldn’t get into specifics (assuming he’s in the know about anything related to Batman casting), but he’s appreciative that viewers wish to see him as the legendary character: «The fact that people are interested in me playing Batman is a real honor and privilege.» He talked about watching 1989’s «Batman» and falling in love with the superhero when he was young. He continued, «For there even to be a conversation or a rumor mill surrounding this role for me is … All I can do is laugh.»

It could be a while before any «The Brave and the Bold» casting news comes to fruition. The film’s not expected to release until later in 2026. Plus, plenty of other names fans have bandied about, like Jensen Ackles and Taron Egerton. Becoming the next cinematic Batman is a highly coveted prospect for many, but no matter what happens, Ritchson isn’t doing too bad for himself with more «Reacher» and other projects on the way.

As animated stories have become more central to Disney’s grand Star Wars plan, several actors originally cast in voice roles have brought their characters to life. Former «Battlestar Galactica» star Katee Sackhoff joined the franchise years before Disney acquired Lucasfilm, voicing the Mandalorian Bo-Katan Kryze in «Star Wars: The Clone Wars.» It’s a character that immediately channeled Sackhoff’s experience playing hard-boiled sci-fi warriors, so it was only right that when Bo-Katan debuted in live-action years later in «The Mandalorian» Season 2, Sackhoff returned as well.

Similarly, Lars Mikkelsen was selected to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn from the Legends timeline into canon by voicing him in «Star Wars Rebels.» The animated series’ story is continued pretty directly in the live-action Disney+ show «Ahsoka,» which puts Mikkelsen in the Chiss strategist’s blue makeup and baggy pants for real.

These examples prove that Disney is willing and able to turn popular voice actors into live-action stars. The same fate could be in the cards for Cameron Monaghan. While it would be a little different bringing a character over from a video game instead of an animated series, the «Jedi» games have sold well enough to guarantee that a pretty major swathe of the fandom knows Cal Kestis. Plus, the more photorealistic style of the games makes Cal even closer to his actor in appearance than the characters of the animated series.

LEGO is more than just toy sets and colorful bricks. One of the most integral parts of the LEGO brand is its use of licensing, allowing the company to use other characters and franchises for its various products. One of LEGO’s most successful partnerships is with DC, which includes not only numerous direct-to-DVD titles but also 2017’s «The LEGO Batman Movie,» which grossed over $310 million worldwide.

With the LEGO «Deadpool & Wolverine» trailer receiving considerable fanfare, is it possible that we’ll one day see a theatrical «LEGO Deadpool Movie»? The MCU has yet to release an animated film, but «Deadpool» would be the perfect character to start off with. The antihero’s quippy and self-aware nature could make for an intriguing, family-friendly animated feature that calls out his limitations because of the medium.

It would be an interesting way to spice up Marvel’s most formulaic fare. And seeing as LEGO has seen considerable success in the world of video games with hits like «Lego Marvel’s Avengers» and «LEGO DC Super-Villains,» it’s possible that we could one day see a «LEGO Deadpool & Wolverine» game grace consoles and PC. «Deadpool & Wolverine» hits theaters on July 26.

Before Yuhki Demers’ post, news of a «Batman Beyond» movie surfaced amidst talks of a scrapped Michael Keaton Batman project. Supposedly, the actor was supposed to play the aged version of Bruce Wayne, who advises Terry McGinnis in the «Batman Beyond» cartoon. The project was removed from the slate as plans for James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot rounded into shape.

According to Demers’ tweet, his concept art was part of a pitch he and Patrick Harpin (his former collaborator on the Netflix show «My Dad the Bounty Hunter») presented to Warner Bros. «What started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe,’» Demers wrote about the outcome of that pitch.

Eventually, Demers and Harpin would like to bring their idea to Gunn. This post is most likely in service of that plan, given that sufficient fan interest could help prove the project’s feasibility. Nevertheless, plenty of important steps remain before a «Batman Beyond» movie becomes official, let alone enters production. So, while nothing is in the cards for now, it’s always possible this concept art will turn into something greater.

For the uninitiated, Midnight Sons — also occasionally known as Midnight Suns — is the moniker of a group of superheroes with roots in Marvel Comics dating all the way back to 1992. Typically, the team is made up of characters with strong ties to the supernatural side of the Marvel universe who band together to stop fantastical threats. As with just about every Marvel team out there, the line-up has changed radically over the years, with various staples including Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, and Iron Fist featuring among its ranks at some point.

While the Midnight Sons have been around for decades at this point, the group has seen something of a surge in popularity over the past couple of years. One major component of this growth is the release of «Marvel’s Midnight Suns,» a 2022 video game based on the Midnight Sons property. Marvel has also made plans to bring the group back to the forefront in comics canon by way of a 2024 comic book series titled «Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt.» With the buzz around the group growing, it would make sense that their MCU debut is imminent.

If a movie based on the Midnight Sons is coming, there’s already one MCU star who might be considered a lock for the project. As it happens, «Moon Knight» star Oscar Isaac already wants his character to join the huge Marvel team. «I thought there was an interesting opportunity with ‘Midnight Sons,’» the actor said during a panel at Middle East Film & Comic Con (via X, formerly known as Twitter). The actor went on to note that he feels the film would be an exciting project to pursue. «I definitely hope that there’s some room to explore that possibility,» Isaac wrote.

For the fictional, AI-generated concept, the TikTok creator picked a number of interesting actors to bring Wes Anderson’s vision to life. Timothée Chalamet, who headlined «The French Dispatch,» is seen as Peter Parker. It’s an interesting casting decision and one that actually could have been a reality. In 2018, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Chalamet auditioned for the role of Spider-Man when it came time for the character to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role ultimately went to Tom Holland. 

In the fan-made concept video, Uncle Ben is played by Tom Hanks, who worked with the auteur on 2023’s «Asteroid City.» While Hanks is a fine choice for the wise Uncle Ben, it’s a bit surprising that the creators didn’t consider Bill Murray for the role — he’s worked with Anderson over half a dozen times. In «Symphony of Spiders,» the nefarious Green Goblin is played by Matthew McConaughey, who has never starred in an Anderson picture. Mark Hamill, meanwhile, plays Doctor Octopus in what’s a genuinely brilliant casting. Sandman is played by WWE star-turned-actor John Cena. These days, Cena is well-known for playing Peacemaker, an anti-hero he brought to life for James Gunn’s «The Suicide Squad.» The trailer ends by revealing that «Kingsman» star Taron Egerton would play Venom. 

As great as the fan-made trailer for «Symphony of Spiders» is, Anderson won’t be bringing «Spider-Man» to the big screen anytime soon. Anderson continues to create films that he wants, with actors he desires. While he’d no doubt pump out great blockbusters, he’s one of the few contemporary filmmakers doing his own thing, and mainstream Hollywood is all the better for it. 

Following the demise of Grand Moff Tarkin, the Empire was on the back foot a tad before striking back and building a new Death Star. After that plan got blown to space dust and the Emperor with it (sort of), up-and-coming Moff Valco Pandion appointed himself as Grand before being killed in the Battle of Akiva by New Republic forces. It was some time before a new replacement arrived in the form of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who became a major issue for Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu in «The Mandalorian.»

Just like every other major Moff, though, Gideon met a fiery doom in the Season 3 finale of «The Mandalorian» at the hands of our favorite bounty hunter buddy pair and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). As it stands, the position of top Moff is vacant. With Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) now back on the scene and on a mission to cause bother to the New Republic, the chances of it being filled again are low. It might be better that way. Grand Moff sounds like a demanding gig with a high chance of explosion.

Naturally, Bea and Ben overcome their past miscommunications and admit their love for each other at the end of the film. Ben even braves his fear of heights to hop on a helicopter to the Sydney Opera House during the film’s big climax — and while they’re dancing together at the wedding, Ben, Bea, and the audience hear the plucky opening notes of Natasha Bedingfield’s beloved song. The two start singing it together … just before every person at the reception joins them. «How do you know my serenity song?» Ben demands. «How do they know my serenity song?!»

From there, various supporting cast members — as well as Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, of course — sing the song in various outtakes over the original track, revisiting moments from several different points in «Anyone But You» that now feature everyone goofing around and belting out a song about how one’s future is still, well, unwritten. (Some of the performers take deliriously huge swings, like rom-com veteran Dermot Mulroney, who performs the song underwater.) It’s entirely charming and an excellent touch from writer-director Will Gluck. Just try to watch this fun montage without cracking a smile. You probably can’t.

Ian McDiarmid, of course, is one of the few actors to appear in all three of the «Star Wars» movie trilogies, along with C3PO actor Anthony Daniels, the only performer to appear in all nine films.

McDiarmid played Senator Sheev Palpatine at the beginning of the «Star Wars» prequel trilogy before his transformation into the Emperor, a role he played in the original trilogy until the character’s demise in «Return of the Jedi.» Palpatine’s death, of course, was the major sticking point regarding the character’s return in «The Rise of Skywalker.»

The veteran actor, however, was keen to point out that Palpatine does have a certain skill that made it all possible, even though Palpatine’s death seemed to seal the character’s fate. «A lot of people said it was ridiculous,» McDiarmid told Empire of Palpatine’s return. «Of course, he was dead at the end of ‘Return Of The Jedi’! And frankly, I think George thought he’d killed me too. But J.J. [Abrams] thought it would be a good idea — I wasn’t going to argue with him. I felt that Palpatine always had a plan B — probably a plan C, D, E, and F as well. And he was an expert in cloning, so.»

Palpatine’s return also serves as a plot function in «The Rise of Skywalker,» as it’s revealed that the trilogy’s Jedi hero, Rey (Daisy Ridley), is the granddaughter of the feared emperor.

Now comes the weirdest connection of all. While the Undying Lands may be hidden in J. R. R. Tolkien’s texts, they’re a very real place in reality — at least, they are ever since January 18, 2024. On that day, NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, part of its Perseverance Mars rover, crash-landed and came to its final resting place on its 72nd flight on the Red Planet. It turns out that at least some members of the space chopper’s remote flight team are Tolkien fans, as the agency announced on February 6, 2024 that the group nicknamed its final location Valinor Hills.

It’s not a coincidence. The report specifically reads, «The Ingenuity team has nicknamed the spot where the helicopter completed its final flight ‘Valinor Hills’ after the fictional location in J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novels, which include ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.»

If we’re being nitpicky, Valinor is an entire region of Aman, not just hills. The continent’s massive Pelóri mountain range might have been a better title fit. Still, just knowing that the NASA team is up to date on their Tolkien lore enough to name the area after such an obscure corner of Middle-earth is enough to make any Tolkienite proud.

Besides, it’s fun to know that now, a very real part of our universe is named after the Blessed Realm. There may not be immortal beings around to populate it, but there is a very real version of the Undying Lands in our plane of existence now, and the fact that it’s on Mars gives it a mythic — dare we say immortal — quality all its own.

Sydney Sweeney saying she won’t kill any more spiders is pretty astounding, considering she could hold a personal vendetta against them. In 2023, Sweeney described a scary on-set incident while filming «Anyone But You» where she had to hold onto a spider that actually ended up biting her. The IMDb interview cuts to some behind-the-scenes footage of that event where Sweeney yells about how the spider legitimately bit her. 

Describing the «Anyone But You» incident to IMDb, Sweeney said, «The medic wrote ‘Sydney Sweeney gets bit by a spider and turns into Spider-Woman’ just as like a funny note … And no one had any clue that we were doing [‘Madame Web’] or what the film was, so I was like, ‘Can I take a picture of that?’ Just for myself to have that one day.»

Someone should check if that medic has clairvoyant powers like Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) because that was an awfully prophetic joke. It sounds like Sweeney’s casting in «Madame Web» wasn’t widely known when «Anyone But You» was filming. She did not get any spider powers following the bite, but it seems like she was all right following the Huntsman spider bite. And while «Madame Web» bombed at the box office, at least Sweeney walked away with a newfound appreciation for those eight-legged critters, and that’s something.
